I am soon to be married to my very long term partner. Everyone is saying how very stupid and foolish I would be to take DH's surname as it sounds so similar to my first name. I really, really want to take his name and don't care if people make fun.

I like Hatty Batty

You'll probably find no one will even ever use Hatty Batty much. All of your friends and family will call you Hatty and the only time you need to use both names (like booking flights and at the bank) you'll be Henrietta Batty.

It's totally your choice. It sounds sort of fun. For your children I think giving them names which don't rhyme with Batty in full or short form would be only fair, but your name = your choice. In my family we've made different choices to you, but I can see the advantages of all having the same name, I just don't want to change my name ever again.

Hattie Black-Batty is awesome! I think it sounds like a marvelous children's book character. That's odd I know, but actually the highest compliment I bestow.
