To think that Prince Edward should NOT wear military uniform?

I've just been watching the news footage of the memorial service at St Paul's to honour the fallen in Iraq - and he's there in full miltiary uniform complete with (what looked like) medals!!

He wimped out of the Marines after only four months - isn't it a huge insult to real soldiers that he wears military uniform?

I don't, for a minute, think that the other royals did anything vaguely useful during their military service - but at least they completed the full training.

Actually no recent Royal has been in front line war. Prince Andrew flew helicopters during the Falklands War, but was so far away from the conflict zone that even if the Argentinians knew of his location, they wouldn't have been able to get to him. Prince Charles never fought. Prince Harry sneaked into Sandhurst without having the entry requirement of a BA degree, and no doubt his teachers will do his exams for him as like in Eton. He even skipped out off 90% of his training and earned the nick-name "Sicknote." On top of the Uniforms the Royals claim expenses, pay and pension from the Military, and the cost of the Coldstream Guards and Horse Guards come from the Military budget and not the Royal Purse. So while British Soldiers are getting killed, the pomp and ceremony of this anachronist family parade around.

Sandhurst, when Prince Harry joined, had a minimum educational requirement of 140 UCAS points, which he met. It's wasn't (and still isn't) compulsory to be a graduate, though over 80% are.

The Princes do draw the normal military salary and allowances (it's administratively easier that way), but donate it all to military charities.

Agree about the medals and uniform. But I did feel a bit of sympathy when Edward left the Marines. Imagine breaking the news to Prince P. that you're leaving the army - to work for Andrew Lloyd Webber! Smile

noddyholder · 01/10/2013 15:25

The whole Royal thing is just ridiculous How much longer are we going to maintain the charade for a few US tourists

prince eddie wearing medals...absolutely disgusting!!!!!
my family lost loved ones in 4 wars this century, for what?
to watch this wimp display his FAKE medals.....

GOGinDevon · 10/05/2015 15:33

His medals are mostly mandatory for the royal family, Order of the Garter, Queens Jubilee medals etc none of them have actually been won unlike his brother Andrew or his father who earned his in the RN during the WWII. Please don't show your ignorance it makes you look stupid.

amybear2 · 10/05/2015 17:18

Well since the army belongs to his mother, I think he can do what he damned well likes.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/05/2015 17:26

I know this thread is old but both Harry and William have worked operationally like any other military with no special favours that I can see.

EnlightenedOwl · 10/05/2015 17:26

But Prince Harry did do active service in Afghanistan and William has done the Search and Rescue work - which can't have been a picnic at times. I watched a programme on a crew carrying out SAR work in SNowdonia an they were pretty well flying blind because of weather conditions. Also Harry qualified to fly the Apache which is apparently one of the most difficult helicopters to fly.

Mrsjayy · 10/05/2015 17:45

I dont think princess Anne served either its stupid tradition that looks ridiculous im sure prince Edward is well aware he served 5 minutes at marine training and feels a prize twat in his uniform
