To think that Prince Edward should NOT wear military uniform?

I've just been watching the news footage of the memorial service at St Paul's to honour the fallen in Iraq - and he's there in full miltiary uniform complete with (what looked like) medals!!

He wimped out of the Marines after only four months - isn't it a huge insult to real soldiers that he wears military uniform?

I don't, for a minute, think that the other royals did anything vaguely useful during their military service - but at least they completed the full training.

He's an utter prick. As are they all.

Morloth · 09/10/2009 20:18

Which one is Edward? They all look the same, how can you tell?

Tortington · 09/10/2009 20:18

yes yes pricks all line then up one behind the other to save on bullets

QueensShilling · 09/10/2009 20:20

......hang on a minute.......I've got the Queen's Jubilee medal (2002) amongst others. It "fell out of the cornflake packet" so to speak. I didn't ask for it but I qualified for it and so I wear it IYSWIM

QueensShilling · 09/10/2009 20:23

.........and DH & I have our "Commission" certificates hanging on the loo wall......

MaggieBehave · 09/10/2009 20:26

Where do you wear it Queen shiling?! All bar one? nobu? neighbours' barbeque?!?!!

Saltire · 09/10/2009 20:29

Queenshilling - DH has that one too, and the NI medal, gulf 1 medal, bosnia, kosovo, and long service and one other he has 6, can't remember which one though

QueensShilling · 09/10/2009 20:49

MaggieBehave - can't think of witty answer (in pyjamas etc) so honest answer is at a Regimental Dinner Night (i.e. amongst others of a similar ilk!), would wear on a parade that required No 2 Dress but:
(a) Don't have that order of dress (TA so have to pay for it myself, own version is way out of date)
(b) So part-time that I never have the opportunity to wear it anyway

QueensShilling · 09/10/2009 20:51

Saltaire - thanks for your support

InMyLittleHead · 09/10/2009 20:55

Edward is the mistake child youngest one.

I feel a bit sorry for him. He isn't even Earl of a real county.

lalin · 09/10/2009 21:06

He should be free to wear all the medals he can get, however it is the insult to all the brave men and woman who serve this country and have earned their medals with pride
I salute them all but am infuriated that this pampered prince who has never fought and has the audacity to adorn himself with top medals.
Does he not realize that he belittles the true heroes who have shown bravery. I don't know how these real soldiers can stand to be in the same room as him.

FABIsInTraining · 09/10/2009 21:08

Prince Andrew and Prince Harry have both served.

QueensShilling · 09/10/2009 21:11

lilan - check down the thread, he's only wearing "cornflake packet" type medals, just like I have. i.e. Queens Jubilee Medal etc
In the words of Michael Winner "...calm down my dear....'

QueensShilling · 09/10/2009 21:11

lilan even

QueensShilling · 09/10/2009 21:12

NyeEve · 09/10/2009 21:16

the whole visit lasts

ooh abotu an hour

QueensShilling · 09/10/2009 21:18

OK, signing out, I've fought my corner but that's enough for a Friday night....I need wine...and need to go and polish my medals of course.....

lalin · 09/10/2009 21:22

Cornflake packet medal or not. He is dressing up and pretending to be some sort of fighting hero. Fine if that makes him feel good.
It is the belittling of true heroes that is so galling. Can he not see that. We all know that he failed the training course FGS.

lalin · 09/10/2009 21:25

Goodnight Qshilling. If your are a serving soldier past or present, thank you and reeeespect.

Kayran · 09/10/2009 21:37

whats the difference between a frog and a marine? You can turn a prince into a frog but you cannot turn a prince into a marine

Which is worse, Edward wearing cornflake medals or completely ignoring the fact that two of the Royal family have served properly. Very insulting for them this thread (op)
