Am I unreasonable.... AM I?!

We live on a small new build estate.

In our section there are 4 houses and 4 car parking spaces. Simple. We were the first to move in and parked in one of the spaces, the builders did not designate parking spaces.

Last week one neighbour (not the neighbour involved in the going ons below) came round and handed me a laminated sheet from our council saying that we has 5 days to remove our car before it's towed away under the abandoned cars act or something.

The car is DH's, he's in Iraq. I phoned and explained, they said fine put it in writing and we won't tow the car. So I did.

The next day the owner of the whole site, some big London cheese rang and said that the other set of neighbours were on his back for the car parking space and we had to move. I said DH has the keys on his base in Scotland whilst he's in Iraq (I don't use the Land Rover it annoys me), there is nothing I can do until March when he's home and then we'll be happy to move it. Fine says he, but now I'm getting phone calls and letters from them saying number 15 is still on their backs.

There are 4 spaces, 3 in use, why the hell can't they park next to our car instead of moaning. Not once have the come round to talk to me, they went through the council and the management man.

I'm pissed off, I have enough going on without worrying that the next time I go outside the car won't be there and it'll have been cubed by the council.

I could understand if we had a magical car parking spot that magically refilled the petrol tank over night or something BUT ITS JUST A FUCKING CAR PARKING SPACE IDENTICAL TO THE OTHER 3!!! What is the problem!!

The big London Cheese thinks number 15 are being annoying and is just trying to get them off his back. The council said the same and told big London Cheese to deal with it, they checked everything out with the DVLA and were happy that the car is OK where it is.

Don't even get me started on the Husband taking the keys. I'm tempted to give big London Cheese his phone number and let them sort it.

Do you all have drives for parking on as well or visitor spots?

Is the problem that there are more than 4 cars?

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 14:24

Bath - have emailed the estate agent for their advice.

3littlefrogs · 26/09/2009 14:25

So number 15 have 2 cars....? I would say that is their problem then.

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 14:27

We and the other 2 have 1 car each, number 15 has 2 cars, we have one spot each (no drive) and there are 4 visitor spots available to the whole site, number 15 park in these as they are right next to their house.

1 spot of our 4 is always free.

Sounds like they're the ones being unreasonable then.

Bathsheba · 26/09/2009 14:33

So, hang on..

Number 15 are causing you all this hassle but they don't park in the resident's spaces anyway...

It definately sounds as if they have some reason to beleive that, despite the visitor spaces being handier for them (hence them using them instead of the residents spaces) that the space your land rover in is legally "theirs"...

hocuspontas · 26/09/2009 14:34

I think you and the other 2 should complain there isn't enough spaces for your visitors

Squishabelle · 26/09/2009 14:35

But arent estates being built now with not enough spaces deliberately in order to discourage car use?

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 14:36

Bath - That's how I see it.

I really don't know what the problem is, they haven't come round to discuss whatever beef they have and that's annoying me more than the bloody car parking spaces.

OP posts:
CarGirl · 26/09/2009 14:36

they sound insane or have been told it is their specific space. TBH I would just go and ask them it may be much quicker.

"the builders told us the spaces are undesignated, have you been told something different?"

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 14:37

When the site is complete there won't be enough spaces to go around, people have started purchasing cones.

OP posts:
CarGirl · 26/09/2009 14:40

it sounds insane!

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 14:41

I was thinking of using my sob story to guilt them into leaving me alone. "I'm pregnant and my DH is in a war zone, I'm on my own with two toddlers and a foetus and you keep trying to get the council to cube my car" . Wonder if it'd work.

OP posts:
3littlefrogs · 26/09/2009 14:44

Well - I would be sorely tempted TBH. It sounds as if they have too much time...

TrillianAstra · 26/09/2009 14:49

Sob story is a good idea.

Personally I would want a designated space. If you ever did move the car it'd be pretty annoying to find that no15 and their two cars had two cars worth of visitors and so there was nowhere for you to park your one single car.

"But arent estates being built now with not enough spaces deliberately in order to discourage car use"

And what, encourage neighbour-on-neighbour murders?

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 14:54

After all the crap they've caused me in the past week or so, if they park in our spot once we've moved it, I'll be parking on their bloody front lawn.

OP posts:
SardineQueen · 26/09/2009 14:57

YANBU

They are being ridiculous on about 5 different counts.

NorbertDentressangle · 26/09/2009 15:01

Now come on Plopper, is there something you're not telling us (ie. AIBU by stealth)...like is the space right outside no.15 so that your DH's vehicle is inches away from their front window completely blocking their view/daylight

If not then they are obviously nutters with too much time on their hands

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 15:06

Absolutely nothing by stealth! Infact you can't even see the cars from our windows!

They are freaks. It's not me this time!

OP posts:
SardineQueen · 26/09/2009 15:09

Plopper is your car a white cortina on bricks?

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 15:10

Is a car 'off the road' if it's in a parking place? I thought it had to be garaged to be SORN.

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 15:12

No it doesn't have to be in a garage.

OP posts:
NorbertDentressangle · 26/09/2009 15:14

Is it parked well within the marked bay? You haven't accidently gone onto their property a bit have you?
