We live on a small new build estate.

In our section there are 4 houses and 4 car parking spaces. Simple. We were the first to move in and parked in one of the spaces, the builders did not designate parking spaces.

Last week one neighbour (not the neighbour involved in the going ons below) came round and handed me a laminated sheet from our council saying that we has 5 days to remove our car before it's towed away under the abandoned cars act or something.

The car is DH's, he's in Iraq. I phoned and explained, they said fine put it in writing and we won't tow the car. So I did.

The next day the owner of the whole site, some big London cheese rang and said that the other set of neighbours were on his back for the car parking space and we had to move. I said DH has the keys on his base in Scotland whilst he's in Iraq (I don't use the Land Rover it annoys me), there is nothing I can do until March when he's home and then we'll be happy to move it. Fine says he, but now I'm getting phone calls and letters from them saying number 15 is still on their backs.

There are 4 spaces, 3 in use, why the hell can't they park next to our car instead of moaning. Not once have the come round to talk to me, they went through the council and the management man.

I'm pissed off, I have enough going on without worrying that the next time I go outside the car won't be there and it'll have been cubed by the council.

I could understand if we had a magical car parking spot that magically refilled the petrol tank over night or something BUT ITS JUST A FUCKING CAR PARKING SPACE IDENTICAL TO THE OTHER 3!!! What is the problem!!

Even better Plopper, please go and ask them what their problem is.

I'm intrigued now too.

SardineQueen · 26/09/2009 15:23

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 15:26

Fucking hell some people. I wish you could go and yell at them to mine their own fucking business. Get it taxed and reverse it and then repark it again, do this once a week, then you are using the car!!!

People are UTTER ARSEHOLES.

OtterInaSkoda · 26/09/2009 16:10

What was your other neighbour doing with a laminated shift-your-car-notice? Did they remove it from you dh's car, or have they been intercepting your mail and laminating the good stuff for posterity?

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 16:20

The neighbour removed it from DH's car. It was put under the windscreen wiper.

To be off the road, I think it needs to be on your property, so on a driveway or in a garage. I'm not sure that the space described counts as that, to be honest.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 26/09/2009 16:59

It's a private car park, so it is off the road.

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 17:17

The DVLA have said it's fine, it's in a private car park, belonging to our houses.

OK I've spoken to them, they are 2 older males.

Me "Can you tell me what's going on with the car parking around here, I'm have problems with the council"

Man 1 "You are parked in our spot, we've been waiting for you to come round. Wait there"

He goes into the house and brings out a piece of paper, it is a hand drawn picture of 4 rectangles labelled 15,16,17 and 18.

Man 1 "Our landlord gave it to us, so you're in the wrong space"

Me "Have you spoken to the management fella? (Big London Cheese)

Man 1 "Yes, happy with that"

and off he walks.

So I'm non the wiser TBH. I think I'm just going to ignore them for now on. I thought they owned the place, if they start on again, I'll suggest they speak to their landlord.

Argh !!

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 17:18

sorry that should say "I'm HAVING problems" not HAVE.

OP posts:
OldLadyKnowsNothing · 26/09/2009 17:19

But, but, but... they're using two spaces closer to their house anyway! They don't need yours!

Weirdos.

Wonder why they didn't approach you first?

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 17:20

I was a bit when he said he had been waiting for me to come round!

OP posts:
CarGirl · 26/09/2009 17:26

Does the big london cheese say they are allocated or unallocated spaces? Think the key here is that their Landlord thinks they are allocated spaces and you were told that they're not so that's would you need to establish.

CarGirl · 26/09/2009 17:26

Very at waiting for you to go around, they truly are unfriendly people.

thumbwitch · 26/09/2009 17:27

tossers.
Can you find out who the landlord is from the Big Cheese in London? Or is it the Big Cheese? Anyway, some hand drawn bit of paper ain't going to cut it in a legal battle, so once you've found out that there are NO designated spots, threaten to sue them for harassment.

ThePhantomPlopper · 26/09/2009 17:31

From what I can gather either their Landlord has just gone with house number 1 in parking space number 1 or they have now been allocated as more people have moved in. I have emailed the big cheese to find out if they are indeed allocated.

It makes sense for them to be allocated, I just cannot understand why 1. they didn't come round to talk to us or 2. why they are so desperate for that space when they have 2 spaces they are using already, that are closer to their house. 3. why they couldn't just park in the spot next to ours, it's exactly the same and not in use.

OP posts:
SardineQueen · 26/09/2009 17:31

OK my flats are like this. There is a plan which labels the numbers of the spaces - and the numbers don't conincide with the flat numbers.

However when people move in they are never given the plan, and always park in their flat number, and then get a note saying that it's not their space and telling them which theirs is.

So you are parked in their space, and so they are using visitors bays.

Suggest writing a note/talking to them again explaining about DH away etc and that you were never given plan. Tell them your house number and say that they are more than welcome to use your space and you will swap as soon as husband back from war zone and you hope this will be OK.

Don't see how they can argue with that...

thumbwitch · 26/09/2009 17:33

don't see why she should have to do that though, SQ - especially as they didn't have the common courtesy to come and talk to her first, rather than invoking Heavy Authority.
