To not want to dress my 6yo DD as a mini whore, but as a little girl?

littletortie · 24/09/2009 22:42

I feel really angry as I look round some of the popular clothes shops and see mini skirts, crop tops even 'bras' for my 6yo DD. She still plays with dolls and yet some of the clothes that are aimed at her age range are really inappropriate.

What happened to dungarees????!!!!!

Is it only me who feels like this cos when I get on my soap box about my friends just look at me as though I am nuts.

MmeLindt · 25/09/2009 14:21

Has anyone mentioned KidsShouldBeKids?

They have fantastic stripy tops and dresses. The one I linked to is one of DD's favourite.

francagoestohollywood · 25/09/2009 14:23

ooooh lots of lovely stripey shirts Lindt! We love our stripes in the Franca household.

Fennel · 25/09/2009 14:32

oh that is a good site, lots of unisex stripes, my dds would like those.

MintyCane · 25/09/2009 14:39

I love those stripey tops I have been looking for some for ages.

MmeLindt · 25/09/2009 14:39

DD and DS in KSBK

Franca
I will be ordering soon, just noticed that the pound has fallen against the Euro so good for us. And she sends to Switzerland!

The stripy tshirts wash really well and are still great, I bought them last year.

thedolly · 25/09/2009 14:48

Oooh, lots of stripes and not a logo in sight.

MmeLindt, how do the sizes come up?

littletortie · 25/09/2009 14:54

Just had a look at Bonpoint, beautiful clothes, exactly what I would want DD to wear BUT £106 for a cardi????

The tshirt DS is wearing is a age 4. He is 5yo now, bought the tshirt last year

DD is wearing age 6 dress, again from last year. She is 7yo but quite petite for her age.

Poor KSBKids, their only problem is that that their clothes are such good quality they last 2 years.

thedolly · 25/09/2009 15:03

Thanks Mme

Takver · 25/09/2009 16:05

Probably won't appeal to the OP (IIRC skulls were a no-no) but to who-ever it was whose dd's were into the pirate look Stardust Kids might appeal. I got the leggings linked in red/black as a birthday present for a Beano obsessed friend of dd's. (They come up very big, btw.)
At least some of their clothes are made in London, which is one reason I like them, prefer to buy UK made stuff where I can.

francagoestohollywood · 25/09/2009 16:36

Your dc are beautiful Lindt

I'm very tempted to order too Lindt, though the other day I got some organic cotton stripey long sleeved tops for 7.95 euros each!

Since we've moved to Milan I rarely shop online, as there's plenty of choice

francagoestohollywood · 25/09/2009 16:37

here... (sorry posted too early!)
Takver, I also like the stripey leggings

BonjourIvresse · 25/09/2009 17:13

Fatface kids is nice too and gap kids is generally tart free. I agree they have their whole adult lives to dress like that fi they want to and am all for putting them in childrens clothes

Jujubean77 · 25/09/2009 17:20

Agree French little girls always look beautiful - Petit Bateau all the way for DD. We buy most things in Italy/ France on hols. None of that awful black/ hot pink choice in shops here...

Jujubean77 · 25/09/2009 17:21

Cantini is lovely too

lizziemun · 25/09/2009 18:13

Have you tried Matalan, they seem to stock normal clothes which are well priced.

Miggsie · 25/09/2009 18:21

I was in a supermarket looking at the 6 yo girl stuff and thinking "Good grief, who dresses their daughter like this?"

Quick cut to school mufti day...and I found out.
One little girl was wearing a crop top, a ra-ra skirt that JUST covered her knickers and flip flops with hair up in tufts with gel.
She really did look like a tart in training, it was scary, and she was only 6!!!!!
Strangely her mum is one of those women who looks at you as if you were something she scraped off the bottom of her shoe. Very odd.

I used to buy Next all the time but I don't want my 6 yo dressed like a 14 yo so I go to John Lewis now.

pinkteddy · 25/09/2009 20:14

It strikes me that Next is one of the biggest culprits here. I wonder has anyone written to Next to complain? I think if people did they might start to listen. Although presumably they are selling these clothes to someone!

shockers · 25/09/2009 20:17

The boden sale is great!

duckyfuzz · 25/09/2009 20:21

next, M&S, debenhams, sainsburys, H&M all have decent clothes on the highstreet, monsoon and boden sales are great for bargains

MillyR · 25/09/2009 20:30

I don't shop in Next, as I like liberty print, Fair Isle jumpers and anything else that makes my DD look like a WW2 evacuee. But I have just had a look through the Next catalogue, and in general I think the clothes are grown up, but not in sexual way. So I do think it is just a matter of personal taste. Although the Next tight www.next.co.uk/shopping/children/oldergirls/11/2 sparkly/sequin pink leggings are somewhat dubious.
