to be fecked off with the bank for being horrified that we use cash

im getting slightly pissed off with my bank. every week i take out X amount in (prepare to be shock/horror-ed) cash. i put it into tins and then i know exactly where its going - i save so much each week for clothes etc so when the bills come in have the cash saved up and we just go and pay it.

the last few times my DH has gone into the bank they mocked him for still using cash, comments that started vaguely annoyingly - like "do you know you can do this straight from your account" and "do you know you can do this over the internet" etc to this week the cashier said "why are you using cash - we are going to have to drag you into the computer age"

he basically has now said he isnt going into the bank again. He is sick of it - he says its every week,which means ill have to do it on my only day off and im just peed off with the bank staff for continually pressing him to not use cash. what is their fecking problem with using cash - its a bank for gods sake! what else do they do????

so - what witty retort can i use when they inevitably mock my use of cold hard cash this friday...

take you custom elsewhere and change banks

can't he use the cashpoint to get cash out in the meantime?

But why don't you just get it out of the cash point? Then you don't have to talk to them?

Don't bother with wit - just tell them that you don't trust internet banking and have no wish to have your identity stolen.

no you misunderstand - i pay my bills with cash. its not getting it out thats the problem - its getting it back in! they think i should pay my bills using the internet. but i LIKE using cash, so i take the cash and the bill to the bank, which they dont like. they think i should be paying my bills using phone or internet services. and they keep telling my DH this, every single week!

But really.. Why don't you do it online? You clearly have access to the internet! Direct debit and online banking is the future! (well actually it's pretty old nowadays)

(i do get it out of the cash point - cant be arsed queueing!)

but we take it all back to them with the bills! and THATS the bit they dont seem to like!

so you take cash out of the bank at the start of the week and take it back in to pay bills at the end???

I only use cash in shops.......just take out a set amount for each week - once it's gone it's gone. But bills much easier done online or via standing order/direct debit.

dh won't use on-line banking either but we do at least pay all our bills by direct debit!

actually I have very few direct debits, I mostly log in and pay them when the money is there.

squishabelle yes its pounds and pence! lol its enough for the week to live one - so i get it all out on a friday and then divide it up into tins - give the kids their pocket money, put so much into a clothes tin and so much into the pets fund tin and so much in the shopping tin (you get the picture!)
then when i get the Next bill or the credit card bill i take the cash that ive saved and go back to the bank and try to pay the bill with the cash....

and theres the rub. they dont like the cash!

but if i did it all online id lose track of what i was doing - im on a budget so i like to have the cash instead - that way when its gone its gone! (im scared of getting into my overdraught again - been there done that!)

Blimey, if I had to go to a cashpoint and then back into the bank on another occassion every month, I think I'd go mad! What a waste of your life!

But, each to their own. YANBU to expect a bit more courtesy from the bank tellers.

You must live in a good area and don't fear getting mugged. I would be really worried carrying too much money in the high street.

Vicar - I'm on a budget as well - I'm not very good with excel - but I have a word document with bills that need paying, and how much, when it's due and I write next to it in bold the date i've paid it.

I work out how much money is going to come in, and how much has to be paid in bills, and then just divide the remainder up into chunks for each week and withdraw just that at the start of each week.

I have a "master" word document with everything that goes out ever, incluidng quarterlies and which monts in the year they're due to go out, and then copy and past each month for a new one.

Obviously a spreadsheet would be the most logical way - but it works well for me. If I get school things that need money I add those onto the monthly one and again write "paid x/x/xx" next to it in bold once it's paid.

Also remember, the banks are trying to get everyone to us the internet or phone banking.
Maybe you should tell them, that by coming in with cash you are keeping their job safe!

Vicar - I see. Whats probably bugging the hell out of them is the insistance of drawing out a daft amount in pounds ANBD pence. You see pensioners in the Post Office who insist on drawing out every last penny of their pension (including the pence). They just cant get the hang of drawing out a round amount. Im sure they think theyre going to lose the odd pence if they dont take it there amd then. They hold the queue up.

ok - all my household bills are done with DD. so all the gas.leccy, poll tax etc is all done by Direct debit.

its just the spending money i get out in cash. divide it into tins
get the frivolous bills like Next directory or the credit card bill
go and pay bill with saved cash

ohhhhhh im ive got a headache! can no body see where im coming from! i dont take hundreds and hundreds of pounds out on a friday and put it all back next day! i just get the spending/shopping money out, then pay the influx of bills with the cash ive saved each week....

is a thread meant to be this hard work? lol!?

that sounds a bit dangerous to hope you've saved enough each week for the extra bills???

I include all the frivolous bills as well in the monthly "household" bills. then I know the money I withdraw each week is for shopping alone

It seems a bit strange to complain about using the bank when you are choosing to use it more often than you really need to. The bank want to sell you services, they want you to have phone and internet banking because it is easier to sell you those services if you do.

The bank is a business, personally I find most of their business practices distasteful and am glad of the phone and internet banking which means I only have to go there and wait in the ridiculously long queue whilst being missold credit cards and pestered into loans on the rare occasion I have to pay a cheque into one of my two accounts.

The logic behind this OP I find strange.
