for being angry with school for describing DD's trousers as 'sexy'?

They have a very strict new uniform policy.
Policy states classic black trousers. No loose weave or casual trousers.

DD is wearing black trousers (admittedly from new look but they do long lngth ones)

she is tall and very skinny. To get trousers to fit her they are narrow - because she is.

Girls pulled out of lessons and their trousers jiggled to see if they are lose enough

a selection of girls told their trousers are not suitable because they are 'sexy'

My daughter is 11.

I do not appreciate anyone describing her or her clothes as sexy.

I am cross.

Hulababy - the OP has said that the trousers were from NewLook's school trousers range - so presumeably not fashion trousers.

hullygully · 21/09/2009 17:26

Were the trousers fashion trousers? No wonder the school was cross. No more jiggling for her, the little minx.

Stayingsunnygirl · 21/09/2009 17:26

There should be jiggling for the mothers too...

LynetteScavo · 21/09/2009 17:29

YANBU - especially if your DD has school isues and was upset by it.

Sound humiliating for your DD.

diddl · 21/09/2009 17:29

I think the OP said the trousers were from New Look-but didn´t specify school trousers.

And even if they are New Looks school trousers-doesn´t mean they are the type the school wants!

"at the risk of repeating myself.

school trousers.

from school trouser range.

not overly tight.

and i thought it might be apparant i do not approve of children being sexualised through innapropriate clothing....."

TAFKAtheUrbanDryad · 21/09/2009 17:35

This is insane. They are trousers.

ElieRM · 21/09/2009 17:38

I sincerely hope it was female teachers doing the jiggling...also, would blind, unquestioning obedience improve this bloody country?

CheerfulYank · 21/09/2009 17:38

Even if the trousers in question were skin tight hot pants a simple "These are not appropriate for school" would do. There's no need to bring "sexy" into the equation when you're talking about children.

Bigpants1 · 21/09/2009 17:45

posieparker-if you went to work and were lined-up and your trousers were "jiggled", I suspect you would be none too pleased. Because it happened to some 11yr old girls, does not make it anymore acceptable.
If the school had an "ishoo" with the trousers in question, they could have sent a letter home, or telephoned the OP.
I also dont care how bloody bossy a teacher is,"jiggling" a dcs clothes is NOT in their remit, and I would be bloody furious if it happened to my dc.It doesnt matter for what reason this was done, it is totally inappropriate and inexcusable-and most schools now, have a very strict "hands-off" policy. If it isnt ok to put an arm round a dc anymore to comfort them, it sure as hell isnt ok to touch their clothing.

hullygully · 21/09/2009 17:50

And what about the trousers? They have rights too.

Hulababy · 21/09/2009 17:51

I agree "SExy" is not the appropriate word. Which is why I wondered if this is how they were originally described by the teacher, or if it came about after other words tried first.

"these trousers are inappropriate"
"why?"
"they are too tight?"
"why?"
"they fit tootightly on your legs"
"why does it matter?"
"becuase it is not appropriate in school"
"why"
"....because they look too sexy"

That kind of thing. Ahgain, not excusing it as t really isn't a word 'd use with children. But wouldn't if it came about from an exasperated younger teacher" maybe.

hullygully · 21/09/2009 17:52

Yes, anyone over thirty four it's a definite no-no. Up to about forty-six for the jiggle, I'd say.

Hulababy · 21/09/2009 17:53

In the "olden days" schools used to check you wore the right coloured school pants - my mum clearly remembers teachers checking they had their regularion green gym knickers on. And kneeling on the floor to check skirts were the required length from the floor.

At least we are saved from the pant check!!!

And - it really does depend on the trousers themselves and how they fit on OP's daughter, as to whether they are appropriate or not. Honestly - some children come to schoolw earing the most ridiculous outfits, and quite often some are indecent!

ChilloHippi · 21/09/2009 17:54

I didn't know New Look had a uniform section.

hullygully · 21/09/2009 17:55

Yes it does. It's called Sexy Uniform for Young Jigglers. V pop with older teachers, apparently.

Hulababy · 21/09/2009 17:55

New Look school range

ChilloHippi · 21/09/2009 17:56

Lol Hully.

Hulababy · 21/09/2009 17:57

TBH - much of the uniform stuff on there does look like it is aimed at children far older than 11y/ And there is no way those shoes could be described as school wear! As for a padded bra in the school range

hullygully · 21/09/2009 17:57

I haven't had a look at that link, but I think all the clothes are entirely inappropriate and should be a lot sexier.

ChilloHippi · 21/09/2009 17:58

I would have thought those clothes were more aimed at sixth formers, to be honest.

hullygully · 21/09/2009 17:59

Now you're talking.

EccentricaGallumbits · 21/09/2009 17:59

Having picked up said DD from her music lesson I have inspected afore mentioned offending article of clothing.

They are very dull black trousers.

They are indeed a bit baggy around the buttock area.

She wears a belt to stop her mooning the school when she bends over.

I don't find them offensive.

I don't mind a bit of jiggling. These are CRB checked authority figures who have to enforce rules.

I don't like uniforms but understand that it is part of going to school, part of following rules and these things have to be borne until an individual is an adult and allowed to make choices for themselves.

I will bide my time and not go and shout at the teachers with all guns blazing because that would embarras DD and I don't think the school rules allow guns of any form, blazing or not.

But if anyone describes my children or their clothes as sexy I will object.

EG- that is terribly dull. Even if you are bored with it all.
