How much shall I ask for in the divorce settlement?

OMG is this still going!

I only started it as a pisstake of the shreddies thread.

Didn't realise any of you had such deeply held views!

Still can't believe no-one followed my soupy link. Hmph.

deliasmith · 17/09/2009 15:21

oh I don't mind up or down as long as there are no remnants left on loo!

DH & I have been arguing about this since we met. Funnily enough I've just posted it on the Kim & Aggie thread as a question. I'm not bothered about whether or not it's polite etc., but about putting the lid down from a hygiene pov.

Rebecca - surely you don't want your toothbrush covered in urine (and the rest), whether it makes you ill or not?

It's a disgusting thought, and in our house I INSIST that the lid is down before flushing. Sometimes DH 'forgets' though, because he doesn't believe me, so I hope Kim/Aggie can settle it once & for all.

If there is a problem with this, the best compromise is to leave the seat and lid down at all times when the toilet is not being used. Then all toilet users will have equal safety from germs and toy drenching, and equal discomfort and heavy work in lifting lid and/or seat before use and replacing after use.
In our house, DW objects to the seat up for the reason of it being disgusting to touch the seat from underneath. No other, and she doesn't object to it for aesthetic or tyrannical reasons, bless her.

My DH told me the other day - his voice brimming with pride - that before he does a poo (sorry, bit gross) he puts a piece of loo roll in the toilet basin so it (the poo, sorry again) doesn't leave marks.

And they say romance is dead

Passionfruity... your husband is not alone, I've been known to do the same in public loos

OP, I think you will find Toxic Toilets by Susan Forward a really helpful read.

All this lid down for flushing... I can see the point, but if you're using bathwater to flush, you can't do that. Surely it would be easier to put your toothbrushes in the bathroom cabinet like we do.

Oh yes, and i think it's healthier for women to sit on the porcelain with the seat up, because you're then crouching lower and more likely to empty your bladder properly, reducing cystitis.
