to think that if you buy raffle tickets and you win 4 times you wouldn't chose a prize each time?

School play day raffle. One mum stood there with a pile of strips of tickets and overall she won 4 times.
AIBU to think she should have told them to pick another ticket after the 2nd time to make it fair?

And i'm not cos i won a £5 argos voucher!

She paid for 4 winning tickets so she gets 4 prizes.

If someone brought a ticket and it won, then they are due the prize.
You say they had a pile of strips of tickets. Would I be right in assuming that you didn't have a pile of strips... but instead one or two strips?
It's a numbers game... the more tickets, the more chances of winning.

Buying more tickets does not make it unfair to other players... each individual ticket has an equal chance of being selected.

If the prizes were naff (it is a primary school, right?), then it would be good to default.

This happened at Haven ....all the children sat there with a strip of tickets for £1 waiting to win a rory or anxious or whatever some child sat there with practically the whole booklet - well of course he won and won and errrr won .....what made it a bit grating was the fact he kept saying Ive got that one already........I decided that night no more raffle and I bought dc the bear for £12 in the shop.

I understand it was her tickets so has a right to prizes but isn't it fairer to let others have a chance?

No Tortoise, yanbu at all. How undignified and grabby that someone could take all those prizes from a school raffle. Only someone with an overwhelmingly me me me type personality would actually go ahead and do this, surely?

YABU but I agree with you. If it was me than I probably wouldn't have put the prize back in, more because school raffle prizes are a load of crap than a sense of fairness.

Actually I agree with the OP.

With school plays, summer fairs, etc, raffles are usually held to raise PTA funds and are intended to be, IMO, about goodwill more than anything else.

This has happened to me once or twice as I'm one of those sucker parents who buys loads of strips of school raffle tickets as a way of donating money, not winning prizes. I think I won four times once, but only took the first one, which was probably quite a naff prize iirc. But that's just me.

And before I get flamed, I realise that not everyone can afford to buy loads of raffle tickets!! (we are talking 20p per ticket or something anyway).

I can see how you would be a bit upset by it, as it does maybe look a bit bad, but she must have wanted to win a lot to have bought so many tickets.

Would it be better if there was a limit on the number of raffle tickets an individual could have... but not a limit on how much they paid for them?
So each person could be limited to a strip... but they could pay say from 50p to £10 for that strip. That way those people who want to donate money to the school, pay more for their strip.

At a recent raffle for DDs guides I won 3 times.

I collected all my prizes, 3 bottles of wine. In fact I probably received more than I spent. Thats the way it goes.

Some you loose ... some you win.

I gave one of the bottles to the guide leader who didnt win anything despite spending £££.

it does appear a bit grabby, I personally would be too embaressed to keep going up.But rightfully they were hers.

Glad to see a couple of people don't think i am being unreasonable .

Hippo - I wasn't upset by it, like i say i won once and got a £5 argos voucher! I felt it was unfair to grab all 4 prizes when loads of kids were all staning holding their tickets hoping to win a prize.

I'd have put at least the last 2 prizes back tbh, would have been embarrassed to collect all 4.

well as others have said, she won fair and square so the prizes are hers if she feels happy to take them. I wouldn't feel happy tho, would have asked for them to redraw after the second prize (and have done this fairly recently)

At school fairs and stuff I tend to let DS and DD pick a prize each (if I were to win twice) and then if we won again I would give the ticket to one of the children's friends so they could go and pick something.

Prizes tend to be a bit rubish anyway, and I buy the tickets as a way on donating money.

she paid more money towards the school funds by buying more tickets, so can't believe she is being called grabby and greedy for then claiming the prizes she won due to luck and buying more tickets
