to think that if you buy raffle tickets and you win 4 times you wouldn't chose a prize each time?

School play day raffle. One mum stood there with a pile of strips of tickets and overall she won 4 times.
AIBU to think she should have told them to pick another ticket after the 2nd time to make it fair?

And i'm not cos i won a £5 argos voucher!

YABU, She paid for the raffle tickets so has one the prizes fairly.

florence2511 · 12/09/2009 16:59

YABU

A raffle is a lottery isn't it, a game of chance. If your numbers come up you win, if they don't you don't. Simple.

Who cares if your numbers come up once or 4 times. I would be jealous yes and envious, but not upset, because I'm sure if reversed you would take all 4 prizes. You say you wouldn't, but I betcha you would

donkeyderby · 12/09/2009 17:09

YANBU. I won £30 of M&S vouchers and I let them draw again when I won a second time. It is bad manners to grab all the prizes even if you do win them fair and square.

franklymydear · 12/09/2009 17:10

YANBU - that's just gauche

what is wrong with people

it's a school raffle fgs - get some claass

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 12/09/2009 17:15

i have won more than twice in a rafflep06. but then will send kids to collect or tell them to pick another prize.

Tortoise · 12/09/2009 17:21

florence2511 I wouldn't have taken all had i won. I would have given the ticket to a friend or told them to re-draw.

There were some good and some not so good prizes!

OP posts:
IdrisTheDragon · 12/09/2009 17:24

If that had happened to me I would have collected the first two and then put the others back.

llareggub · 12/09/2009 17:28

YANBU. I would have taken the first and then given back the others. I thought that is what everyone would do; it certainly is what happens at our school.

MrsWeasley · 12/09/2009 17:38

Sorry but I think YABU.

She paid for more tickets so lucky her she won more prizes, next time she may not win anything but I expect she will still buy lots of strips regardless!

MaryBS · 12/09/2009 17:46

YANBU. I've never heard of anyone being that greedy before, even if you DO buy a lot of tickets, I think courtesy suggests you don't take that many prizes.

Most people I know would only take the first prize they won.

UniS · 12/09/2009 18:12

YABU - good form on the winners part might be to pick low value prizes after the first one or two, but heck, they bought plenty of tickets and thus put plenty of money in. IT could have been someone who only bought 4 tickets and still won 4 prizes.

smokinaces · 12/09/2009 18:34

were they definately all her tickets? was she looking after any for friends that had left?

I think YABU - what you would do may be different to what she did, but doesnt make your way right. She paid the money, she won the prizes.

If I bought a load of lottery tickets and won 4 prizes I certainly wouldnt tell camelot to put some back for other people to be more fair! Maybe she'd never won anything before and was really excited at havign won that many times?

but you would think they would shake the ice cream tub of tickets a bit better, save the same person winning

CommonNortherner · 12/09/2009 18:41

YANBU

It's been usual at the raffles I've been to to pass up after collecting prize 2, or if children are there then tickets are handed to them for extra chances.

differentID · 12/09/2009 18:44

each ticket sold has an equal chance of winning. It's perfectly fair that she collects all the prizes won.

Tinfoil · 12/09/2009 20:13

YABU. She sounds like an honest person, not someone who would only do something generous to look good in front of others.

ooh a balance aibu thread

Fwiw i wouldn't take 4 prizes from a kiddies school raffle either as op yanbu, although if prizes were holidays or the like i may well be greedy

WhereYouLeftIt · 12/09/2009 20:43

Sheesh, remind me never to buy raffle tickets again, I'll be judged if I win more than once!

She bought the tickets/donated a whole load of money - why the judgey pants?

paisleyleaf · 12/09/2009 20:48

I think the same as LuluMaman - she was generous with her money to the school fund in buying all the tickets.

Perhaps there should be a cap on how many you can buy - 1 strip per person or something.

NoahAmin · 12/09/2009 20:59

i agree
tis rude.

LauraIngallsWilder · 12/09/2009 21:01

YANBU - I would have accepted the first prize with glee then said please choose another winner for the other prizes

NoahAmin · 12/09/2009 21:02

yes
totally BAD FORM
tbh if you rely on raffles as the only way to stock up on something you need a life to get

magicOC · 12/09/2009 21:12

I went to a small party which sold raffle tickets to colleet some cash for cancer (small group of about 30 and raffle was last minute plan).

There were 4 prizes and the 1st ticket out was mine, so was the 2nd, 3rd, 4th,5th 6th, 7th and 8th ticket drawn

I only took the 1st prize obviously, but, it was hillarious when after the 3rd one drawn people actually looked at me checking mine before checking their own tickets LOL

magicOC · 12/09/2009 21:17

And heh I couldn't have cared less what others thought. As it was for cancer (something that has affcted my life) any money spent was going to the charity so.....

BTW tickets were 25p each and we raised £90

Tinfoil · 12/09/2009 22:01

Maybe it just didn't occur to her?
