I mean WTF?

Do they have Winnie The Pooh pyjamas?

It's not RIGHT, is it?

There are lots on Fontspace.com. Lilly is nice.

teamcullen · 12/09/2009 12:50

I use comic sans when I dont want to be formal. Why would you not trust somebody who uses it? Thats bizarre.

BertieBotts · 12/09/2009 13:02

I like dafont.com, a lot of them are free to download and use as well.

Caz10 · 12/09/2009 13:46

yama - there was a free version of sassoon around for a while, is that maybe what you had? It was getting sent from person to person on TES for ages, then the people who make and sell the real Sassoon Primary Infant etc got wind of it and got very stroppy (understandably I suppose!).

mslucy · 12/09/2009 17:07

arial every time.

though I once worked for a barmy old poof who had a thing fot trebeuchet!

Jbck · 12/09/2009 17:23

YABU 'tis my favourite font. My pjs are not WTP.

CultureMix · 12/09/2009 18:28

Agreed Comic Sans is way overused and looks dreadful outside a restricted context. Have you noticed that roadside electrical power cabinets have recently all sprouted warning signs [in CS of course] saying "Help prevent a tragedy". I assume this is a regulatory requirement but who in the world thought CS was the appropriate font?

If it's any consolation the creator of CS (a Microsoft designer) did design it for a kids' software program and is himself rather embarrassed about its ubiquity - see story here.

hazeyjane · 12/09/2009 18:34

I like Verdana

Comic Sans always looks too perky and chipper.

Nevergoogleddragonbutter (and Someguy), I don't think I will ever forgive you for the mental image I now have of Winnie the Pooh

unknownrebelbang · 12/09/2009 18:43

How odd to mistrust someone because of the font they use.

YABU.

I don't know what the latest thinking on this is, but I understand that it's a good font for those with dyslexia, along with cream paper/background.

TheCheeseAlarm · 12/09/2009 18:56

Can I recommend Century Gothic as an excellent alternative to Comic Sans for use in schools? It looks very stylish and is clear and easy to read.

clam · 12/09/2009 18:57

Oh. My. God.

I've been using comic sans for years. I had no IDEA it was a no-no.

Is there any mileage in the argument that I'm a primary school teacher and therefore know no better.

HOW did I miss this? Please tell me what I should use instead.

P.S. I hate Winnie the Pooh. Does that help my case?

duckyfuzz · 12/09/2009 19:16

comic sans is commonly used in schools because it has been found to be the most legible font, sorry if this has already been said

What a funny thread. I've never really thought about font-rage, though now I think about it I do often judge things based on their font. The web designer guy was right about it being 'hand made' and not profession. I stick to Times or Arial, I've never really considered there to be any other professional choice, though I may be braver in my font choices from now own.

I must admit I did have to open Word and check out the fonts you were talking about and I did wiki 'serif'

Hormonesnomore · 12/09/2009 19:54

I work for a company whose corporate font is comic sans. I use calibri.

BananaPudding · 12/09/2009 19:54

I don't like comic sans either. But then I don't like any sans-serif fonts; the look blocky, stark and uninviting. Dh likes them though, consequently I've thought of them as ugly man-fonts for a while.

I use Footlight MT or Bookman Old Style.

Pingpong · 12/09/2009 20:18

YANBU
I hate comic sans too. The only exception is in primary schools when I can see the advantage of the correct 'a'.
My boss in 2000/2001 used it all the time for all documents and we had various letter templates to send out. I always changed it to TNR before sending anything out with my name on it and when he left the company I changed every single sign/notice/letter he had left.
I have always been deeply suspicious of any adult who chooses to use such a babyish font. My webdesigner was quite a fan but I had to specify NOT to use it on my site!

BettySuarez · 12/09/2009 21:16

I think that teachers should be exempt from any form of comic sans outrage but everyone else should take note.

A very good friend once sent me an email in purple comic sans and I was horrified.

It is just bleurggggh of the highest order!!

unknownrebelbang · 13/09/2009 11:20

What about adults with literacy problems, are they not excempt too?

Or should they be subject to this mock outrage?

BettySuarez · 13/09/2009 16:01

This thread is tongue in cheek unknownrebel

unknownrebelbang · 13/09/2009 16:29

You don't say.

snowybun · 13/09/2009 22:48

I have know realised why I don't sell much on ebay.

faeriefruitcake · 13/09/2009 23:29

Comic Sans is the best font for anyone who is Dyslexic to read.

I shall continue to use it in almost everything I produce.

Ya Boo and a nanni nanni na na to comic sans haters
