I mean WTF?

Do they have Winnie The Pooh pyjamas?

It's not RIGHT, is it?

I'm going one step further here.

Not only do I hate Comic Sans, I hate Arial as well.

In fact I hate anything without a serif, it makes me feel ill.

There I've said it.

I would like Mumsnet in Times New Roman please.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/09/2009 22:27

There is a school nearby which uses Comic Sans on its school sign. Looks very juvenile.

I judge emails that are written in Comic San. Plus judge the following:

-people who set up emails on different colour background.
-People who use colours other than blue or black, especially signatures in pink, fgs.
-People who put their signatures in Brush Script, or whatever it is, anyway which looks a bit like very old fashioned hand writing.
-people who use times new roman (old farts)
-GE font. I used to work for a company called GE which had its own font, everything you wrote to anyone (email, fax, letter, anything) had to be in the company font. Very corporate. I see it on GE lorries and it makes me shudder, bloody company.

BuckRogers · 11/09/2009 22:28

I'm with Feenie! I'm a primary teacher and we use it because it's uses a 'proper' lower case 'a'.

It's also a font which goes well with bubbly. curly, double mounted work.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/09/2009 22:30

Sorry cat - the old fart comment was not directed at you! (Cross posts).

I don't like any font with serifs, looks cluttered in documents I think. Arial all the way for me.

ThingOne · 11/09/2009 22:30

YANBU.

Catinthehat, YAB extremely U to hate all sans serif fonts. You just haven't met the right one yet.

Umlellala · 11/09/2009 22:30

Er... I am a teacher!

Can't remember the font I know I used mostly but it's never been difficult. Have imported a few fonts, used Script sometimes (and have vague memory of using the 'a' from Comic Sans with other fonts).

I know, it's irrational but I really would rather handwrite than use Comic Sans...

morningpaper · 11/09/2009 22:30

Comic Sans has NO appropriate context

Just NONE. EVER.

It makes me swear.

Caz10 · 11/09/2009 22:31

Aaah see but if you work in a school the alternative is to have to PAY for Sassoon...too tight

Feenie · 11/09/2009 22:33

Oh....you finished tutoring now then, Umlellala?

Niecie · 11/09/2009 22:33

YANBU about WTP pyjamas (WTP anything) but I can't get worked up about fonts.

It is true, having been through the entire repetoire of fonts on Window 07 I can vouch for the fact that there are exactly 4 which have a real 'a' and the CS is only one suitable for children.

So what exactly is the MN authorised font of choice then?

Umlellala · 11/09/2009 22:33

Huh?

BuckRogers · 11/09/2009 22:33

I used it today actually!
Size 72 on A4 paper which said, 'We have been learning about Henry VIII and his six wives'. It was red too with Henry VIII in blue!

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/09/2009 22:36

Don't see the need to use Comic Sans in schools. Presumably all us lot managed to differentiate between a round 'a' and an 'a' with a curly bit on top (notice technical terms) whilst children.

Mind you, there were not exactly a huge amount of printed material kicking round when I was at school - twas all on blackboard or in printed books.

I'll shut up now.

curiositykilled · 11/09/2009 22:38

I referred your AIBU to DH who works in IT, he says:

"No, you are not being unreasonable. It indicates that they are someone who has to be told something ten times before they'll absorb it"

dogonpoints · 11/09/2009 22:40

There is research that shows a significant number of children find comic more readable, dyslexic childrne in particular who often do find it difficult to differentiate letter formations.

Hando · 11/09/2009 22:42

So what is the font of choice for MN'ers then?

I to dislike comic sans, I hate tem new roman but I'm more of a Verdana chick at the moment, I had a falling out with Ariel recently.

Caz10 · 11/09/2009 22:42

Visually impaired children too.

Umlellala · 11/09/2009 22:43

Oh alriiiight, you win, s'pose it isn't quite so offensive on a school display...

but still hate it.

Chuffinnora · 11/09/2009 22:45

Am I the only one who had to google Serifs?

Feenie · 11/09/2009 22:45

I'll allow a difference of opinion, Umlellala, as long as you don't start dissing us schools, innit

tethersend · 11/09/2009 22:47

It makes me want to weep- and I am a teacher. Consequently, I weep a lot.

However, looks like we are not alone

Caz10 · 11/09/2009 22:48

I read a thing in a women's mag once that said Georgia was a font that showed you to be a sassy professional woman etc etc etc...can't see why it would though! I like Papyrus for cards etc...[saddo emocion]

masonicpixiesreadthedailymail · 11/09/2009 22:49

Couldn't agree more

S'oright for kids stuff

People who use it at work cos they like to show their quirky, fun side.. like they would be 'outside the box' if they were 10 years younger and had been to uni

NotanOtter · 11/09/2009 22:50

i like it
feels more like handwriting to me

EyeballsintheSky · 11/09/2009 22:50

Book Antiqua here. I got over my Comic problem
about 10 years ago. I then became addicted to Monotype Corsiva. I'm so sorry...
