not have a clue about half of the pregnancy and TTC threads are on about?

I only found out recently what SPD was (i thought it was a type of power ranger) but there are things like HCG levels and how much they have increased.

WTF????

I wouldn't know what my HCG level was or how much it should have been.
Was i just a really ignorant person who didn't take any notice? does everyone else understand these threads?

surely im not the only one that just saw the little blue line and waited for 9 months.

Im starting to think im either really thick or that i have somehoe not dedicated enough time to my pregnancies.

Sassy OP has a dx much like my own childs; if she posted about it in terms of temrinology (this just applies to my own) would everyone get it? Of course not- and In wouldn't see anyone who questioned in the way OP did as patronising or having a negative tone. Indeed, i'd rather someone posted to ask rather than just amde random assumptions.

DS1 has AS / HFA with dx spd and possible hyperlexic tendencies. We use GF / CF as a means of preventing him from slipping into a EBD Unit, though CAMHS are ficussing mroe on his ED atm.

See? It can be done for anything. As k me aquestion and I will explain, assume I might just be offended.

'Only found out about HCG levels when I had an m/c. '

Really? I've just had to google. I had 3 m/c and never heard this term.

LOL_ A diagnossis of ASpergers / high functioning autism, with SPD (but as it was only done in a single assessment the Paed can't up the diagnosis to HFA becuase of procedural rules). He also probably has hyperlexia, which is a word condition 'There is a small body of literature on the topic dating from 1967, but these articles do not necessarily concur on a definition, symptomatology or etiology (see bibliography). Previous investigators have used the term hyperlexia to describe a syndrome which included children who learned to read before the age of 5 with little or no formal training, but who have language disorders and display difficulty in social relationships, Cohen et al (1987) proposed that the primary and essential cognitive deficit in these children is a disorder in speech and language involving a severe deficit in their ability to comprehend language whether it is spoken or written, as opposed to a dyslexia syndrome involving only recognition and/or comprehension of written language' though he has wrist issues which means he still struggles with literacy, and some vision issues as well. We use a gluten and casein free diet to reduce behavioural episodes as they are making it look as if he would need a unit specifically for those with emotional and behavioural difficulties, and which are widely recognised as damaging for ASD children.

OK?

I aren't that old! But we didn't get the internet till 1999 when number 3 was 4 and even then you paid per minute and couldn't use your phone!
but as someone said 'TTC is like anything else. Unless it's happening to you, tend not to take notice. Much the way when your child is sick and you do the rounds at Children's Hospital. One finds out all about various tests, best veins for drips, what an ng tube is etc.'

You learn what you have to. I now know more about G-tubes, brain damage, epilepsy and VNS that I'd ever imagined possible! But I don't expect most people to know these things. And I wouldn't call them ignorant. Just un-infomred.

Wheelchair bound for 5 weeks with SPD when pg with DS.... and 30 pain-filled-SPD-nightmare weeks when pg with DD.... oh I so wish I'd had a perfect pregnancy....

What a bizarre thread....

and how many people know what a ketone level or a WAV are?

|Agree Beth

When dd was born due to pprom she had an ng and longline was on a vent and was tested for turners.

One sentence makes so much sense to some people and none to others (and that was a simple one)

To have given birth to 2 normal children and not have a clue about half of special needs forums are on about?

I only found out recently what ADHD was (i thought it was a type of power ranger) but there are things like the MMR levels and how much they have increased the rates of autism.

WTF????

I wouldn't know what my weaning too early caused my kids behavoural issues was or when I should have weaned
Was i just a really ignorant person who didn't take any notice? does everyone else understand these threads?

surely im not the only one that just saw the school health questionnaire and ticked 'my kid is normal'

Im starting to think im either really thick or that i have somehoe not dedicated enough time to my kids ?

what a bizarre thread. im not offended or upset that many people dont understand what im wittering on about. i think they are lucky to not have to know and i envy them that. but then im very lucky to not know about ng tubes, ketones or WAV's.

i have had to explain every test ive had done at some point (and probably terrified most people or at least made them uncomfortable)

ignorance is bliss.

yes...but... I think we did kind of come to the conclusion that those people who are having difficulty TTC (in particular, I can't speak for people with SPD and how they might feel) might have been slightly offended because of the way the question was phrased and where it was posted (AIBU).

I think if something similar about children with SN had been posted here (in AIBU) then you would have the same amount of people feeling slightly miffed or interpreting the questions in a certain way. I'm surprised people can't see that. We all have our flashpoints and buttons which can be easily pushed.

My understanding was that the OP had clarified she wasn't deliberately trying to upset people whatever it may have looked like, and I think only one person said it seemed kind of smug. No one really had a go at the OP and so I don't think it's particularly fair to be having a tussle with Sassy over her interpretation of things.

I am really surprised that so many mothers haven't heard of HCG, not least because it's basically what gives you a positive pregnancy test. I knew what it was even before I miscarried and found out about it pretty early on, but then I have done a lot of tests over the last 2 years - I understand that other people are luckier and aren't testing every month.

Oha nd of course SPD is SPD and semantic pragmatic disorder

CP is cerebral palsy or chicken pox

BD is baby dancing or birth date

BF is breast feeding or best friend

Tis impossible to kep up with the meanings, best just to let it slip away

really

I do think that's a bit weird

I suppose many people who use pregnancy tests just aren't interested in how they work?

why would it be pulled because someone didn't know what HGC was? That would be like me asking for something to be pulled because someone didn't have the in-depth knowledge I have about disability.
Its actually useful to learn.
