to think that jaffa cakes should not be dunked!

I've just read that the German biscuit maker Bahlsen have launched oblong shaped jaffa cakes because the orange filling can then go edge to edge and be better for dunking .

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! The idea of dunking a jaffa cake is rank and surely the law of eating jaffa cakes is to nibble the sponge from around the outside, peel off and eat the orangey bit then eat the rest of the sponge.

So go on then AIBU?

But Jaffa cakes have chocolate! Not wimpy milk chocolate either but dark!

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:39

intresting point, but a malted milk will hold up better in a cup of tea! therefore it's a no win contest for the lowly jaffa cake!

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:41

Jaffa cakes are perfect as they are. Unlike malted milks they do not require being plunged into a hot beverage in order to make them edible.

ninedragons · 11/09/2009 13:43

There is an Australian biscuit called a Tim Tam. It's like a Penguin.

The correct way to eat it is to bite off the chocolate on both ends then use it as a straw to suck up your tea.

Refined people, us Aussies

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:45

I do that with just about any chocolate biscuit that's fit for the purpose. Kitkats,Cadbury's Fingers,Penguins etc.

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:49

See that is where you are wrong! malted milks are delightful either dunked or not dunked!
jaffa cakes need some sort of magic wand to becom edible!

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:51

You quite obviously lack functioning tastebuds if you believe that you poor deluded soul.

OrmIrian · 11/09/2009 13:54

Jaffa cakes should not be eaten.

Vile things!

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:55

clearly your tastebuds have shriveled and buggered off after the first hint of a jaffa cake passed your lips!

after 1 cuppa tea (with milk no sugar ) and 4 malted milks, i can safely say, they are delicious!!

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:56

Welcome to the good side OrmIrian

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:58

You don't know what you're missing out on Ormirian. Give in and have a Jaffa cake. You know you want to.

TTTrouble · 11/09/2009 13:59

I love dunked jaffa cakes, I eat them just as you do Chookeeper but dunk the edges before I nibble them off :D

Gingeme · 11/09/2009 13:59

Agree with OrmIrian yucky!

My 19 month old dipped his rice cakes into my tea this morning

PuppyMonkey · 11/09/2009 14:05

Now rice cakes ARE revolting!

Gingeme · 11/09/2009 14:09

Yes but ds likes them. Not sure if I did floating bits in my tea

thesunshinesbrightly · 11/09/2009 14:54

it is sooooooo wrong

you do not dunk a jaffa cake

TrillianAstra · 11/09/2009 14:55

I believe in freedom of dunking.

Why you would want to dunka Jaffa Cake is beyond me, but I fully uspport your right to do so.

penona · 11/09/2009 15:00

I gave the DTs jaffa cakes once, they dunked them in their milk, they fell apart, DD cried and DS fished all the bits out and said 'mummy mend it'.

Now I eat them when they are asleep with NO DUNKING.

Kids chose malted milks yesterday. Have yet to try. Will do now.

penona · 11/09/2009 15:04

they were malted milk creams, so a bit more interesting than I was expecting. Dunked well, held shape and nicely soft but not dissolving. Weird tasting biscuit though.

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 15:13

Ok my brother (who can happily eat a packet of jaffa cakes in one sitting!) would like to say that...
"personally dunked jaffa cakes dont work for me, but i drink coffee not tea so may work with tea, i am yet do decide wether i prefer them dunked or not, now i will of course have to have a testing sesh, has anyone tried the very berry jaffa cakes or lemon lime ones?"

has no bareing on the matter but he wanted to get involved!

malted milk creams!? where have i been! they sound looovely! where from?

(malted)milk(biscuit)

penona · 11/09/2009 15:19

They were on special offer in Morrissons, made by Fox's.
They also chose Party Rings which I adore. They call them donuts. Mmmm. They have all gone now

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 15:26

oh may have to go ona a search for them!
oh love party rings but they make my teeth hurt!! havent had one for about 4 years now!

xx

PacificDogwood · 11/09/2009 15:51

I don't believe it (in the voice of Victor Meldrew) - that this discussion is still going !!
BTW, I am the only person who is convinced Penguins have become smaller (the biscuit, the animal may be threatened by extinction but not by shrinkage AFAIK)?

ginormoboobs · 11/09/2009 15:59

Dunking a jaffa cake! Fucking mentalists.
They will be wanting us to dunk fairy cakes next.
The best dunkers have to be chocolate hobnobs

sockmonkey · 11/09/2009 16:59

ahhh that fateful moment
"get a spooooooooon!!!" as the biscuit breaks in half and falls into the murky depths of your mug.

My sister used to work at Foxes packing the party rings. Now it's done by machine (which is why now most times the icing is broken). Useless fact but there you go. She's not bitter, but has moved to Australia
