to think that jaffa cakes should not be dunked!

I've just read that the German biscuit maker Bahlsen have launched oblong shaped jaffa cakes because the orange filling can then go edge to edge and be better for dunking .

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! The idea of dunking a jaffa cake is rank and surely the law of eating jaffa cakes is to nibble the sponge from around the outside, peel off and eat the orangey bit then eat the rest of the sponge.

So go on then AIBU?

No need for a spoon.
Just bite off a little from the top and bottom of the biscuit, place a little way down into the tea, then suck up the tea through the biscuit. You can only do it for two or so seconds before it disintegrates, then quickly withdraw it,tip it back and pop it in your mouth.

Is it really worth commenting on a discussion that bores you?

sockmonkey · 11/09/2009 12:59

Quint & Higher - my mate does that, but she lives in Australia. I figured it was an Oz thing to do.

glasgowlass · 11/09/2009 13:00

YANBU!!

Jaffa cakes are not made to be dunked!

Custard Creams are a whole other story though, they taste better when dunked!

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:00

Am i being unreasonable to think all jaffa cakes (regardless of shape) should be banned!

there vile!

xx

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:01

YABVU Milknosugar. They are incredibly delicious.

QuintessentialShadows · 11/09/2009 13:02

Yes, higher, but then the experience is over so quickly! I like to prolongue it. I savour the flavour of the hot gooey chocolate and the coffee, before adding the coffeyed crumbs...

I am a sucker for chocolatey pleasures.

purplepeony · 11/09/2009 13:03

Higher- yes it is, if only to persuade others to get a sense of perspective.

Read the posts about cancer and you'll see what i mean.

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:04

There is nothing quite like the horror one feels when one's biscuits breaks in half and falls into the cup.

QuintessentialShadows · 11/09/2009 13:05

purplepeony - get the fuck off your high horse, some of us know cancer very well through real life and find threads about gooey biscuits a real breather.

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:05

Peony. This is AIBU on MN. It's not the house of commons.

QuintessentialShadows · 11/09/2009 13:06

and the horror of mucking out crumbs from the bottom of your coffee cup.

gorionine · 11/09/2009 13:11

QS I have to get some penguins now! I will try both yours and HTW's method (several times to make sure) and I will get back to you with which one gets my vote.

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:11

You should be having cake with coffee not biscuits. That'd solve the problem.
Cake with coffee, unless it's lemon or a Victoria sponge, and tea with biscuits.

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:12

But there weird orange goo on stale cake! they make me feel a wee bit queasy!!

now dunking penguins, there's ya money maker!

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:14

higherthenawombat- that is the ONLY way to eat a penguin!

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:14

You have clearly had inferior version of Jaffa Cakes. A perfectly ripe McVities Jaffa is a delight.

LedodgyDailyMailstinksofpoo · 11/09/2009 13:16

Purplepeony are you serious? Are we only allowed to have highbrow discussion. I have lost both my parents and grandparents most of them to cancer. I know perspective but that does not limit me from discussing what I like to dunk in my tea!

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:17

I'm afraid to say that McVities are the only one's that grace the doors of this house!

Now, where do we stand on malted milk biscuits?

gorionine · 11/09/2009 13:19

I have just realised I have NEVER eaten a malted milk biscuit! have to add to the list of things to experiment with!

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:25

Malted milks are the cow biscuits aren't they? I love those.

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:30

Oh the shop's own brand just do not live up to those with cows on!

ponders who would win in a fight with a jaffa cake and malted milk

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 13:32

Jaffa cakes of course. The smashing orangey bit gives them superpowers.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 11/09/2009 13:34

YANBU. I have to nibble the chocolate, peel off the jelly and suck it to death and then eat the sponge... mmm... jaffa cakes....

milknosugarplease · 11/09/2009 13:34

yes BUT the malted milk have cows BUILT IN them!

clearly the answer lies there!
