to think that jaffa cakes should not be dunked!

I've just read that the German biscuit maker Bahlsen have launched oblong shaped jaffa cakes because the orange filling can then go edge to edge and be better for dunking .

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! The idea of dunking a jaffa cake is rank and surely the law of eating jaffa cakes is to nibble the sponge from around the outside, peel off and eat the orangey bit then eat the rest of the sponge.

So go on then AIBU?

hi, i have been asked by McVitie's to tell everyone how fantastic jaffa cakes are. my children eat them everyday, there is a whole unicorn in each packet and my children are going to live forever

Hollyoaks · 10/09/2009 22:01

Theyoungvisitor I'll have to explain that to my 19mo before she attempts to dunk one again

angelbymoonlight · 10/09/2009 22:04

PacificDogwood · 10/09/2009 22:23

Ledogy, gee, I've never been asked before to be in anybody's quiche

bronze · 11/09/2009 11:06

Pacific- its because she thinks you're a good egg

sockmonkey · 11/09/2009 11:21

I must agree with the majority here. Jaffas are NOT for dunking.
Nothing worse than soggy goo at the bottom of your drink. Ick.

PeedOffWithNits · 11/09/2009 11:41

LOL at quiche!!! can I join!

i don't dunk jaffa cakes but I do dunk biscuits.....AND Cheddars

Asana · 11/09/2009 11:42

PMSL at the responses on here Who knew a degree in Physics was needed when trying to calculate a biscuit vs cake's "dunkability"?!

nickelbabe · 11/09/2009 11:44

definitely YANBU.
i line up with those who agree with your (the only) method of eating the jaffas

why would you want to dunk orange flavoured gloop?

Tortington · 11/09/2009 11:48

would you dunk a chocolage fudge cake?

no.

cake is not for dunking

biscuit is - this is why it is ok to dunk chocolate kit kat.

there are principles to dunking - it is a v. serious business.

i feel that Jaffa have not conducted their business analysis thoroughly enough and the chief exec should be dismissed forthwith

shivermetimbers · 11/09/2009 11:53

Oh i dunk everything. Biscuits, cake, sandwiches etc. However, as i drink neither tea nor coffee, everything gets dunked in cola or squash. Yum.

PeedOffWithNits · 11/09/2009 11:53

OK shiver, so whats the nicest sandwich to dunk in your coke??[

PeedOffWithNits · 11/09/2009 11:54

feeling sick]

PuppyMonkey · 11/09/2009 11:55

I like to eat a Jaffa Cake from the fridge so that the chocolate is nice and hard. And yet the smashing orangey bit it still goo-ey. I like to dunk a ginger nut though.

Tidey · 11/09/2009 11:56

I don't believe in dunking anything in hot drinks, but I've said that before and was rounded up and escorted out of town. Metaphorically speaking.

Now, I know it's regarded as being akin to feeding your family toxic waste on this site, but I'm going to say it anyway. McDonalds fries dipped in their chocolate shakes is awesome.

twirlymum · 11/09/2009 11:57

lol at gayTony!

Wasn't there a whole saga regarding whether jaffa cakes were biscuits or cakes for tax purposes?
I think it was clarified as such -
when biscuits are stale they go soft,
when cakes are stale they go hard.

My dh's workmates did a dunkability chart for the wall in the office.

Bourbon 9seconds
Jammie Dodger 7seconds
Custard Cream 6seconds
Nice 4seconds
Hobnob 7seconds
Jaffa Cakes - dunking not recommended

gorionine · 11/09/2009 11:58

I dunk bread in diete coke

but

I DO NOT DUNK JAFFA CAKES!

shivermetimbers · 11/09/2009 12:01

PeedOffWithNits.Best butty is grated cheese and chocolate spead, closely followed by potted meat on a crusty cob but that is best dunked in milk.

PeedOffWithNits · 11/09/2009 12:03

I need to go and lie down after that shiver

this is me nowfeeling iffy

ChookKeeper · 11/09/2009 12:37

shiver I have started a perfectly reasonable thread and I can't beleive that you have lowered the tone to such depths

alwayslookingforanswers · 11/09/2009 12:38

no that is just WRONG.

I dunk all my biscuits EXCEPT Jaffa cakes.

scroobiuspirate · 11/09/2009 12:40

thats just wrong, and will ruin your cuppa. what do the germans know about PG tips tho.

HigherThanAWombat · 11/09/2009 12:47

People actually dunk sandwiches? Why?

QuintessentialShadows · 11/09/2009 12:52

I was going to say it is too flat to be a cake. Then I rememberd pancakes. They are for sure not biscuits just because they are flat.

Dunking jaffa cakes? I am sure it would be nice, if you were of the dunking kind.

I prefer penguins. I have a spoon ready, and I dip the penguin into my coffee, and then I suck up the chocolatey centre (now mixed with coffee) like the surrounding biscuit was a straw. I then deposit the crumbling soggy biscuit onto the spoon.....

yum.

purplepeony · 11/09/2009 12:53

OFFS get a life- is this really worthy of discussion?
