So faux genteel.
It's woman.
Ok?

Sorry, Nellykats

I read your post slightly wrong, and took it to mean that you saw the use of the word lady as in some way anti-feminist.

So no, I am not angry.

gingernutlover · 13/09/2009 19:42

my dd wants to be a "lady when I grows up"

but "not like you Mummy, like teacher at school"

cheers hazeyjane!

I am not a woman-I am a lady and will continue to use it. I think it very rude to say to a small child in a shop-'give your money to the woman' -I would always say 'give your money to the lady'.
What I can't abide is the word 'wimmin' which I think is supposed to show strength!

I think I'm a bit confused over this one.

I would use lady for 'look out for the lady' to the DC

but would never say 'ladies are as good at men at DIY/cooking/whatever'

(because not only does it sound weird but in this house I'm atually better at everything )

or 'ladies should never put up with domestic violence/unequal pay/poor maternity rights' as it sounds crap.

in fact apart from using it to describe someone when they are in ear shot I don't think I would ever use lady.
