..to really take a dislike people who I only know as paragraphs on a webpage??

thinkaboutthepepilepticdogs · 24/08/2009 23:06

I've namechanged for this, and won't name any of the MNetters that I'm referring to (so please don't either!). BUT, do you ever find the same MNetters on threads you are commenting on - and they always disagree with what you think??

This seems to happen to me alot and I find myself really disliking them, which is ridiculous. Sat here on my computer, they aren't even real people, just paragraphs of text on the screen so how can I dislike them so much??!

Am I the only one that gets this? Or are there more of you out there that are just as irrational as me?

OP posts:
PixiNanny · 25/08/2009 15:25

tethersend: I try to avoid parenting threads in general, well, writing on them anyways
Isn't NCT that parking company that fines people huge amounts# for stupid things?

Trolls are people who post the wreck havock, mostly lies or stupid things.

Daily Mail is generally hated (one thing I learnt quickly lol) and they've recently started a weekly(?) article on MN topics. Nothing too exciting but it does make one think about privacy issues.

oneopinionatedmother · 25/08/2009 15:30

@tethersend

agree re: breastfeeding threads...I find it hard to stay nice and sane on them and should probably not post. But the whole Nazi thing made me very angry
(turns green, pulls vest apart, norks growing to monstrous size...)

I appreciate Lulumaman and Tiktoks input on them and should probs leave them too it.

iceagethree · 25/08/2009 15:30

golly i can't believe there's a thread about this and worse i am posting on it

gah

Morloth · 25/08/2009 15:33

Breastfeeding and circumcision threads almost always follow a script and end up nasty.

Ah ha!! At least it wasn't the circumcision thread where in the end we all had to agree to disagree just to be able to log off!

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes · 25/08/2009 15:45

lol daftpunk at the ... giving your away, nothing to do with your opinions?

PixiNanny · 25/08/2009 15:51

I can't believe that cirumcision and breast feeding cause the discussions that they do, I know about breastfeeding ones but will have to see what's so special about the circumcision threads haha

What's this nazi thing about? I've heard vague references but I'm confused too!

daftpunk · 25/08/2009 15:52

i doubt i'm as unique as you think Ionly....

there has to be other people on mumsnet like me...law of averages and all that..

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 25/08/2009 15:52

no dp, I don't think there are

tethersend · 25/08/2009 15:57

Nazi thing came up in a bf discussion- the term 'NCT (National Childbirth Trust, though lol at car parking Pixinanny ) Nazis' was used, and Jesus Christ, it got nasty.

Godwin's law was invoked- although perhaps not properly understood, and it all kicked off.

It was terrifying.

Morloth · 25/08/2009 15:57

Godwin's Law means that the first person to mention the Nazis automatically loses the argument.

People like to bicker PixiNanny and breastfeeding/circumcision are good subjects for polarised views where no middle ground can really be reached (you are pretty much for or against, abortion is another one). They are also really emotional subjects that strike at the very heart of being a "good" parent/person.

One of my favourite actions on AIBU is when people try to stop the thread when it doesn't go the way they want it to.

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes · 25/08/2009 15:58

I dont know about mumsnet, but I know that in real life I do not know a single person with views like you, so unless they are all in a room somewhere avoiding me the law of averages does not really work.

daftpunk · 25/08/2009 15:59

greensleeves...i'm not sure what i've done to you?....but you have to let it go....can't be good for your soul....

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 25/08/2009 16:00

I don't believe in souls

You haven't done anything to me, I just don't think there are other people on MN who share your "views"

tethersend · 25/08/2009 16:04

I think Godwin's Law was that all internet discussions inevitably end up with a nazi comparison at some point- the likelihood increases as the discussion progresses.

You're right, morloth, it has come to mean that the first person to mention the nazis loses the argument, but I don't think that was the original intention of the law- it was meant to be a humorous observation as I understand it!

Obviously if the discussion is about the nazis, then all bets are off.

hmm, I don't know you tsc, but I hadn't noticed anyfucker coming out with any racist/homophobic/otherwise bigoted views

PixiNanny · 25/08/2009 16:07

Whats the parking place then?! I have heard complaints about that a lot recently and I'm not a Mummy myself, so I think NCT is a perfectly valid thing for me not to know haha

The bickering is entertaining, if you aren't involved in it, I learnt my lesson on that one very quickly! :P

Never heard of Godwin's law either actually, that's a good one. And I remember the nazi thing a bit better now, the BF Nazi women who insist upon it or something? shrugs I know not much about parenting, I'll have to learn one day but that day is not for a while yet!

AIBU is a place where I spend a lot of time, so many people get stressy when they don't here YANBU, it's brilliant! Why post if you don't like the answer? Though saying that, I've done that in the past

Why do people have to judge so quickly all of the time rolls eyes

tethersend · 25/08/2009 16:07

Like the nazis?

scottishmummy · 25/08/2009 16:07

nursery threads get folk goin.some bampot always pops up

squawking about "precious" "moments"
and the inevitable "why have them if you let reprobates strangers watch them"
or the i know someone who knew someone who said they beat dem children dontcha know anecdotes

best threads are AIBU

and if you dont want to hear divergent responses - well dont ask, hun.and dont come bleating if noone agrees

i also am bemused at how some people have so much pram paraphenelia to sell on a regular basis.

"i have a pimped snot coloured bugaboo with boil green accessories, and footmuff. any offers"

daftpunk · 25/08/2009 16:12

greensleeves/Idont

if you actually read my posts properly (without hysteria)...you will see i'm not saying anything that controversial...infact i think my "views" are pretty normal...

francagoestohollywood · 25/08/2009 16:14
