To object to DP watching the football the day after we get married?

We're getting married on the saturday, it's a fairly big do with family coming from all over, one friend is even coming from norway...

Anyway the next day the plans we roughly to have a bit of a lie in (as we're guessing we won't get to sleep until 3am ish) then get up, have a bit of a tidy up, then either have family come here or us go to them so we can see our dd's for a few hours, open presents/ cards, then finish packing for the honeymoon we go on our honeymoon the early hours of the monday so we'll need an early night too.

DP thinks he'll have enough time to watch the football at 12pm.

I think we have enough to do and by 12pm we'll be with family and I think it's rude to have football on when you're with visitors and also I think he should want to spend what little time we have with dd's that day.

I'm saying he can sky plus it and watch it later once everything is done.

its a 90 minute game. can't see the problem. sky plus it and he might know the score in advance which spoils the game. one day married and you're controlling him already?surely there will be some male guests or relatives around who might enjoy watching it with him?

Lol I'm not saying he can't watch it I'm saying am I BU asking him not to because we've got other things to do. Most importantly seeing dd's as we won't see them for 2 weeks (they will be on holiday with pil and we'll be on our honeymoon)
As for controlling him one day after we're wed, I don't think that will change much after we're married we've been together nearly 8 years.

It's an hour and a half, not all day.

My DP was watching a game 10minutes after me giving birth, what would you think of that.

Ah, let him watch it. I don't think it's rude to have it on when people are over, if they are close friends/family and wouldn't mind. I think it's the start of the season. It's 90 minutes and will soon be over and you can stock up brownie points

FFS - get a few beers in and some nachos or do beer and burgers and have a little post wedding party whilst watching the football.

You will have plenty of time to do packing etc - I have just packed for a 2 week holiday for the 4 of us - it has taken precisely 35 minutes!

yes,but the dynamics change when you're actually married!! we were together 10 years,(my ex and i)but it all changed and felt somehow dfferent once married! psychologically somehow it was all different,hard to explain!!

yes,yabu if you ask him not to watch it. its start of new season,its all exciting with all those shiny new players to watch!and new kits!! and new managers!!

I am sooooo glad I married a man with no interest in football. I think it's one of the most pointless things to get worked up about. Anyway that doesn't help you. YANBU....I think he should focus on the children and the family. It's a game....that's all.

he's starting married life the way he means to go on
I would be fine with it and spend the ninety minutes with the dds and your mum, sister, best mate etc opening all the pressies without him
you'll have enough of him on the honeymoon

Its not as bad as DH, who 3 days after DS1 was born went to teh RAF Rugby final becasue "this is the most important thing that will ever happen to me" and left me with his mother for a week.

Give him a job to do while he is watching if you want to feel like you are in charge but lighten up. You will have just got married, you should want him happy.

YANBU. This is why I married a man who hates sport.

My brother disappeared to the pub to watch the football on his wedding day. his bride had to phone him to ask him to come back and cut the cake. He mentioned his team in his speech, and the little figure on top of the cake was even dressed in his team colours. I just thought - why can't you just put your wife before your hobby for one day?

Waaaaay back in 66, some relative of mine got married....then at the wedding reception everyone watched the World Cup final.

TBH, if it's the team he supports, and it's on the box, the match would be on. If it's just any old team, then the match wouldn't be on.

i agree with MadameCastafiore, actually.

get all the football fans into the room with nachos and drinks etc and everyone watch it together.

makes him think he's won and it gives you time to catch up on gossip with the girlies at the same tiem (make sure you get your nachos and drinks too, though!)

To give you a picture of how much worse it could be...

My mum told me that when her and my dad got married, they went for lunch after the regestry office, and then back to my dad's parents house... Where there were two seats pulled up in front of tv, one for my dad, and one for his dad, a six pack of beer and an old firm game. They then told my mum and gran to keep the noise down, the football was on!

Asked my dad about this, he sheepishly said, " but it was an Old Firm game..."
