I think they're brilliant for children - on the beach, round the pool, going to swimming at the weekends, at home for running in and out of the garden. VERY practical indeed. DD's are 6 and 3

Would never buy a pair for myself though.....

ZippysMum · 30/07/2009 14:01

I love my crocs. Do live quite close to a beach though so maybe I can be excused?

SixtyFootDoll · 30/07/2009 14:03

DH went to Ikea unacompanied last week and cam back with a pair of Ikea 'crocs' in white.
I came home to find him wearing said pair over a pair of black socks.
Needless to say i contacted a divorce lawyer immediately, there are some things a lady just shouldnt have to see.

motherbeyond · 30/07/2009 14:07

crocs are HIDEOUS!! how anyone can think they look remotely attractive is beyond me.
our family went on holiday and my brother turned up at the pool wearing 1.crocs and 2. carrying a liverpool f.c towel !!

we all postioned our towels a safe distance away from the chav!!

PlumpRumpSoggyBaps · 30/07/2009 14:08

The only person I know who wears crocs also wears one of those weight-lifter leotards. (Claims it is comfy in his work as a personal trainer). I think that says it all, really.

On the subject of Uggs, can someone please explain to me why the young ladies around here wear them during a heatwave, with skimpy tops and belts mini-skirts? Surely their feet can't be that chilly, if it's warm enough to wear a vest accessorised with a wide belt?

curiositykilled · 30/07/2009 14:13

tidey - good point! Perhaps crocs obsessives would wear cheese on their feet if it were comfy, expensive and had benefitted from having a large marketing budget....

crazycanuck · 30/07/2009 14:13

a couple years ago my dearest friend (who lives far away but has known me for years so should know better) sent me a pair of lime green crocs complete with jibbitz (?) for my birthday. I was thrilled when I discovered they were too small and popped them back in the post (with a note that they were too small) so she could get her money back. I also fired off an email that said that crocs aren't really my thing. thing was, something went wrong in cyberspace and that email never reached her (got bounced back to me). so I now have a bigger pair of lime green crocs, complete with jibbitz, that never go outside my front door. I do use them for slippers though! and my ds puts the jibbitz (crikey that sounds like a mild swear word doesn't it!) on his crocs (he is only 4 so they look smashing on him!)

ZippysMum · 30/07/2009 14:18

They are ugly but they are sooooo comfy.
And practical. I hated them till I tried some on and then I was hooked.

jellybeans · 30/07/2009 14:19

I think people should wear what they want and not what people tell them so YABU!

thedolly · 30/07/2009 14:23

I think crocs are a victim of their own success - a bit like Burberrry

curiositykilled · 30/07/2009 14:24

lol, yes... crocs are comfy, we are all snobs! The imitation primark ones are comfy too but not so ridiculously priced.

I'm just against them for kids and because they are expensive, trend rubbish. Foothealth prig! >

HarryB · 30/07/2009 14:27

Excellent. It's like the posh version of what I saw the other day: a whole family in tracksuits. Lush.

curiositykilled · 30/07/2009 14:28

I can't really see a reason for them other than showing off that you can afford crocs (unnecessary, expensive, indulgent footear). UGGs are the same. I am a practical shoe person. There are other shoes/sandals out there that are better for your feet/more comfortable/less expensive/appropriate for the beach.

KirstyJC · 30/07/2009 14:30

I hated crocs too, until I tried a pair on at work and realised how incredibly comfy they are! I work in a hospital and am on my feet most of the day, (apart from all the tea breaks) so I caved in and now have a black covered-over top pair for work.

I did used to wear them out of work on occasions but now I don't 'cos I nearly killed myself slipping on a wet path!

They don't look great, but if you work in a hot sweaty hospital with hot sweaty feet my God they feel good!!

paranoidmother · 30/07/2009 14:50

I love my crocs but then I only have the versions that look like normal shoes and not clumpy large ones. Although they are so comfy. My DC's have them for playing in the garden and paddling pool etc.
I am the only one who wears a pair for work and the only person who doesn't complain at the end of the day because my feet are fine!!
I will say I don't pay full price for them, they are always sales ones.
Oh and I do have a pair of Mammoths to wear around the house in winter. Cosy and comfy.
I want a pair of these when the price comes down

Pikelit · 30/07/2009 14:55

I am also a recovered Crocoholic and now won't take my Birkies off. But I question how sensible Crocs are for children - other than as beach/watery shoes - and also find whole families dressed matchy-matchy very sinister...

Pikelit · 30/07/2009 14:58

PS. I hate to come across as the typical middle class Raffia Mafia but do particularly hate the NEON coloured mock-Crocs. If you are going to wear them, go for the real thing, fgs!

hippipotamiHasLost53lbs · 30/07/2009 15:15

Pikelit - how long did it take your feet to adjust from lovely squidgy crocs to hard ungiving birki? My feet are really not liking me at the moment!!

Pikelit · 30/07/2009 15:20

I think it helped that my Crocs had to go into storage over the winter and hadn't come out when I fell for my lovely Birkies. So my feet hadn't been lulled into that splendid Croc squidge!

Frasersmum123 · 30/07/2009 15:22

Crocs are the work of the devil and look awful. They remnd me of the shoes I used to wear when I worked in a sterile environment.

What is even worse is when people get those things to decorate thier Crocs

posieparkerinChina · 30/07/2009 15:23

Crocs have gone bust...do you think it's got anything to do with you witches at MN. All those exploited and over worked moulded shoe people.....tut tut tut.

brimfull · 30/07/2009 15:26

I must admit to wearing them at work (nurse) but comfy as they are they make my feet sweat like a sweaty sweatshop worker.
I can't wear them without socks at work or I'll be sliding all over the ward...don't worry I wear trousers .

Pikelit · 30/07/2009 15:30

I made the mistake of not taking enough shoes to Portugal last summer and can confirm just how hideously uncomfortable Crocs were in the September heat. Worse, I came home with Croc tanned feet - brown with neat little white holes which took all winter to fade!

brimfull · 30/07/2009 15:31

shouldn't that be white with little brown circles

curiositykilled · 30/07/2009 15:36

Nurses are allowed to wear them where you are ggirl? Nurses in our hospital are not allowed them for Health and Safety (sharps, slipping etc).

Is it any co-incidence that the top 3 google search results for 'crocs gone bust' are caravan obsessive forums? Caravans...
