I have been enjoying reading my friends' blog about their holiday at a special camp for Home Ed families. It sounds rather nice, on the whole. But every now and again I just get this urge to go down there and hand out Happy Meals to the DC...

Snigger. Now you're making me think of bowls of organic muesli, sweetened with yoghurt, buzzing with flies.
Only ever known one home-schooled person. His mum (single) was alright. A bit leftfield, but basically sound.

Greensleeves · 16/07/2009 15:26

ifit was anyone but you SGB I'd be trotting out cliches about hard hats and the like

Greensleeves · 16/07/2009 15:44

bump [bored]

LadyGlencoraSnape · 16/07/2009 15:50

37.68%

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 16/07/2009 15:54

course, the 'Modern Parents' from Viz would never actually read Viz, so you might get away with that one.....

UnquietDad · 16/07/2009 15:58

Ooh, link to it...

HollyBunda · 16/07/2009 16:03

yawn....

LuluMaman · 16/07/2009 16:05

never read viz, so can't comment

UnquietDad · 16/07/2009 16:08

The "Modern Parents" have children called Tarquin and Jocasta (?) and are basically painfully right-on all the time, insist that their children call them by their first names and have handwoven, ethically-sourced everything.

It's funnier than I've made it sound

Rhubarb · 16/07/2009 16:08

here

My brother was into Viz, I hated it. They once showed a cartoon of a small stick figure falling from a building and made a joke about it being Eric Clapton's little boy who died aged 4.5 after falling 35 floors from his flat after a window was left open.

I thought that was the lowest of the low.

Greensleeves · 16/07/2009 16:08

Tarquin and Guinevere

UnquietDad · 16/07/2009 16:10

Ah, thanks for the correction. Not read Viz for years!

sabire · 16/07/2009 16:10

I think you'll find there are quite a few people who don't fit the stereotype now. I'll be home educating my 10 year old dd1 in a years time if the only other option is sending her to the brutal comprehensive round the corner (the two nearest schools to me were named in a list of the bottom 17 schools in the entire country a few years ago...)

DD's sitting downstairs eating a packet of Quavers right now and watching re-runs of Ugly Betty.

Greensleeves · 16/07/2009 16:10

they spend ages trying to encourage guinevere's first word to be "dolphin"

and it's "football"

LuluMaman · 16/07/2009 16:12

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i would think the majority of home edders are nothing like those sterotyped , 2 dimensional characters.

viz is not funny, based on that wiki entry.

LadyGlencoraSnape · 16/07/2009 16:17

OK
Modern Parents 37.68%
Frustrated Classicists 24.39%
Hovering Helicopters 19.52%
Godbothering Flatearthers 16.41%
I think that covers it.

Greensleeves · 16/07/2009 16:19

Aaaaw

harmless fun intended only, shurely

I know some lovely home-edders with lovely children

Greensleeves · 16/07/2009 16:19

but viz used to be funny, before it became a bit too cheap and smutty

LadyGlencoraSnape · 16/07/2009 16:20

Me too.

kathyis6incheshigh · 16/07/2009 16:21

this link, if it works, may give you a better idea than the Wiki entry!

SolidGoldBrass · 16/07/2009 18:39

AH yes, I forgot the percentage of HE complete maniacs whose dc live in the equivalent of the Waco COmpound...

Pizazz · 16/07/2009 18:49

You are all being very unreasonable.
Nothing better to do than stereotype and bitch about something you clearly have no experience of?

Greensleeves · 16/07/2009 18:50

I think it was meant to be light-hearted gentle fun-poking rather than vicious scornful pigeon-holing pizazz

it certainly was from me

HollyBunda · 16/07/2009 18:55

well, I think that once again SGB comes across a total asshole.
oo haha lets make fun of those who are different to ourselves. It always makes us feel better about our pathetic lives.....

Greensleeves · 16/07/2009 18:57

fuck

didn't realise people were going to be genuinely hurt

I'm sure SGB didn't intend that

people have different thresholds for what's 'fair game' joke-wise

now I am hand-wringing

I'll sod off.
