before you judge me...

we buy all our furniture on discount it seems, and factory outlets etc. I'n a sale junkie and where I'll spend hours hunting for discounts once we know what we want, my DH tends to spend 3 minutes looking before either getting fed up or buying something nice but not necessarily the best choice (eg cream rug the year before we had our baby. Great. I didn't argue with him because it was in the sale and I'd struggled to persuade him to even come to the shop...)

We also were left a few grands'worth of stuff when we moved into this house, because the sellers were moving to oz and clearly couldn't ship it all.

We have loads of books and I've spent years ogling those fabulous italian style arty cool book shelves and I know we can afford them, it's just that it seems loads because we always get stuff on sale!!!

my hubby works hard and we are comfortable, just think I'm going to struggle to persuade him on this one.

Go for it. Life's too short not to have the best you can afford. Much of our stuff is handmade from reclaimed oak, walnut bla bla bla and was eyewateringly expensive but I haven't regretted any of it.

The Ikea crap I bought for ds's room however I regret all the time....

Books deserve to be kept in luxury-I can think of many worse uses for £3k

They are nice, but if you have loads of books they won't look like they do in the picture, with a few arty books scattered around here and there.

TBH if I had £3k to spend on bookshelves I'd be getting a carpenter in to make some built in ones, all along one wall, maybe, in a really nice wood. That way all the big books will have a home instead of being stacked horizontally like the ones in the photo.

i would spend that much to have a joiner come and in make some lovely bookcases but not on that bookcase. it is lovely but once it is full of books will it really look so different to an ikea one?

They are awesome. Please buy them. It's your home. You'll look at them every day. You'll know they were expensive. I have just bought a v expensive artichoke light which you can get a copy of for much less but I like knowing its the real thing and bugger it, it's your money.

They are not my taste, but they are fabulous and if you can afford them then why not buy them?

ermm I'd pay 3k (well if I had it LOL) for some really nice shelves made for me - but I wouldn't pay 3k for a shelves that I buy a look a like for at a fraction of the price

I mean - they're nice - but 3k - I'm not sure what you're paying the money for - the name? the fact they're solid wood? (not that the solid wood would cost that much)? Are they hand-made? Bespoke?

Proper booksheleves should be 8inches high - these look more like 12 - you will waste a lot of space - it will look messy - but more importantly they will get massively dusty

Local carpenter in to look at your books and the available space would be very sensible

I can't believe that you have to ask them for a price! My rule is that if I have to ask how much it is then I can't afford it

MP - that's why I want shelves made for me - as "proper" bookshelves don't have enough height for most of my books (8inch too small )

I agree that they don't look worth three grand. And they aren't really bookshelves either- more a display stand for a few knick-knacks. You could spend three grand much better IMO.

Now everyone else is giving their opinion, I dare to, too, and the first thing I thought when I saw them was that they looked like cheap Ikea crap.

at £3k for those! My DP is a carpenter and would make you an amazing book shelf that nobody else would have for that price, in solid wood - although the choice of wood would dictate the price. If those are mass produced then that is waaaaay to expensive.

But, if you like them and you can afford them then then go for it - tis your money after all.
