To think people who buy tat like this are very, very odd?

KingRolo · 07/07/2009 16:05

Why on earth would anyone spend money on this stuff? And AIBU to think those who do are incredibly strange people?

Or am I just a snob?

and i'm very worried about the real little girl in the photo being confused by the shy kid hiding her face in the arm of the chair....how long has she been waiting for her to stop counting to 10?

mustrunmore · 09/07/2009 21:57

Ah, every now and again a thread comes along that reduces me to sniggery tears...

releasethehounds · 09/07/2009 22:02

I've been on MN for years and this is the funniest thread yet. I've cried so much I need to get a new tissue and I'm trying not to wake up the DDs sleeping soundly (I hope) in the next room.

Thanks all - I really needed this thread!

BTW I think it is a MIL thing - mine loves this sort of tat and will literally keep ANYTHING.

crankytwanky · 09/07/2009 22:32

My poor, tea-splattered keyboard.

motherpi · 09/07/2009 22:32

Am weeping

mrsrawlinson · 09/07/2009 22:52

But seriously, if your mother REALLY loved you she'd buy you one of these:

It's hand set with genuine fake stones and it plays music and everything. What more could a daughter want?

GentlyDoingIt · 09/07/2009 23:04

Oh thank you thank you thank you everyone that is the best laugh I have had for a fortnight

Thunderduck I can't believe how many levels of tat-induced wheezing you have taken me to

and KingRolo, your comment about "little Emmy" nearly broke my waters

I am going to go and browse the website a bit now and try to cough up a Marlboro I had in 1993

bleh · 09/07/2009 23:17

Thunderduck. Please explain yourself on this thread. I've had to explain myself this evening when I inexplicably found Native Americans HILARIOUS. Thanks

ErikaMaye · 09/07/2009 23:27

Thankyou so much for making me laugh so much... Absolutely hilarious!!! I'm crying!!!

trellism · 10/07/2009 00:18

I should really be in bed but..OMG.

I particularly like the way the illustrations aren't actually photographs of the tat you'll receive in 14-28 day's time.

Thunderduck · 10/07/2009 00:21

So the real thing could be even worse? Is that actually possible?

FairLadyRantALot · 10/07/2009 11:52

oh god that Emmy Doll looks EEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLL
shudder....did they use chucky as the model or what ....just grim!

flaime · 10/07/2009 12:09

Hey, my MIL used to BUY this crap, and what's more she used to tell my kids which of her 'treasures' each would inherit when she passed away .

Fortunatly when she did pass away last year my SIL fell out with the family and took most of it for herself but we do have several collectors plates in our loft which my DH insisted on keeping

weegiemum · 10/07/2009 12:15

Oh flaime, your SIL's house must be gorgeous. How sad that she fell out with you and you don't get to go round and admire it all!

KingRolo · 10/07/2009 14:07

flaime - pmsl at your MIL's 'treasures'!

This is a fab thread, should go in MN classics. Almost as good as Crap Tips. My, that one was something special.

Antdamm · 10/07/2009 15:47

Why??

Just wanted to add a little something to the thread, am currently trying to find some horrid enchanting items my sister used to own.

Thread is hilarious

Antdamm · 10/07/2009 15:51

paperclip holder

Not only is it completely useless handy for holding all those pesky paperclips, but it is also hideous cute and will keep you entertained for hours.

Love how you can 'Tell a friend' at the bottom of these pages. Like you would have any friends left....

Antdamm · 10/07/2009 15:53

http://www.collectablesltd.com/Gordon+Ramsay+Tableware%25252FCookware/Platinum/Gordon+Ramsay+23cm+Pl ate+-++Platinum.html Gordon Ramsay Plate

  • I was expecting to see his face plastered over the plate, in some sort of commemoration for being a fucking pillock
Antdamm · 10/07/2009 15:54

Gordon Ramsay Plate

Antdamm · 10/07/2009 16:07

interesting

FlappyTheBat · 10/07/2009 17:45

I thought the penguin paper clip holder was quite cute, loved the gordon ramsay plates??????

wonder how much money he is getting for a set of plain white dinner set items?

is his ego really that inflated that he thinks his name will really encourage people to buy them?

KingRolo · 10/07/2009 18:37

That penguin looks like it is vomiting paperclips. Who would want that on their desk?

OP posts:
mrsrawlinson · 10/07/2009 19:10

I love Antdamm's figurine of a miniature poodle made of ceramic grapes. It looks a bit like a haemmorrhoid. Nice.

FlappyTheBat · 10/07/2009 19:20

And as for that rattlesnake wine holder, words have actually failed me!

Why on earth are these things made, do the companies actually think people are going to buy them?
