Momdeguerre - I really try not to, and the satnav beeps if I do so I slow down (much to the annoyance of other drivers, obviously, who have different priorities to me).

YABU, although sorry to hear you lost someone. From your OP I assumed he'd been caught doing some horrendous speed and had dismissed it as not important or serious.

Sounds just like he was making a bit of a joke to me really.

Losing someone to a speeding driver must make you even more fed up that there are a lot of people who don't take it seriously.

I can see why you are annoyed.

Speeding kills and yet people seem to blame the system rather than themselves for speeding when they get tickets. It is infuriating.

I'm not being flippant - everyone speeds - huge cause of road deaths and casulties that I frequently have the horror of dealing with but despite the fact that it is amazingly simple to avoid - everyone does it, day in and day out.

Thanks TheArmadillo. Tbh, I know what it's like here and that a lot of people are going to think I'm just being sanctimonious. It just seems to be unnecessary and dangerous to me. Joking about it seems to spread the wrong message, when you're the sort of person whose joke gets reported around the world.

OK yes I'm not saying I try to emulate Prince William in every way, but while we're not a republic and he is in line for the throne, this will be reported. I'm guessing he sees himself as a role model in some respects - or what exactly is he for?

If he really thinks he could issue a speeding ticket as a barrister, he is very stupid indeed. It would be a counter-intuitive interpretation and I don't buy it, sorry.

ermm as has already been said - he lost his mother in a high speed crash.

You honestly can't expect everybody to think about every comment they make just in case it might upset someone somewhere. You are unrealistic if you do.
