People die in accidents when drivers speed. I think it's not to be taken lightly by someone who is (at least meant to be) a role model.

FGS, a speeding ticket and causing death by dangerous driving are two very different things.

HerHonesty · 07/07/2009 13:35

he's a tosser, what more do you expect.

2shoes · 07/07/2009 13:37

yabu

passionfruity · 07/07/2009 13:39

I remember being sooooo annoyed on my graduation day when, after four years of studying hard, it took 2 mins for me to accept my certificate and then I had to listen to ONE HOUR (3 x 20 mins) of boring speeches about the honorary graduates who simply turned up on the day and had done no studying.

They were reasonably successful authors, actors etc (but not academics) so surely their achievements should be recognised by literary awards etc rather than at a university graduation day?

It still annoys me now when I think about it!!

scaryteacher · 07/07/2009 14:17

I think he's a hard working military officer actually, and learning to fly helicopters and do Search and Rescue isn't a cinch as any military pilot will tell you.

I also feel sorry for him as being born to inherit a throne and not having any choice in it must be difficult.

HerHonesty · 07/07/2009 14:32

really tough....

FlappyTheBat · 07/07/2009 14:37

My husband is a genuine military officer and a barrister, I think I know who just might work harder

LittleOneMum · 07/07/2009 14:39

I'm a barrister and I'm really peed off that they made him an honorary one. HOW hard do I have to work?

squeaver · 07/07/2009 14:44

It was just a bit of a crap joke.

scaryteacher · 07/07/2009 14:45

My husband is also a genuine military officer, and those who fly get flying pay - they don't get more over the course of a career as many of them die - 4 in the last couple of weeks.

Mine is a submariner and I'm bloody glad he doesn't fly helicopters doing search and rescue; it always looks very hairy.

FlappyTheBat · 07/07/2009 14:52

As an heir to the throne, I doubt very much that he will be allowed to actually work as a search and rescue pilot.

I don't think the RAF would take the risk of something happening to him.

Submarines are safer, was happier when dh was on them, even if it did mean no contact for weeks/months at a time.

pingping · 07/07/2009 15:00

FlappyTheBat

I am sure he will be allowed to his younger brother did a tour in Iraq

OP YABU and a tad sensetive.

Also he may of been made a barrister but I am pretty sure he won't be acting on it and doing that as a job anytime now or in the future.

scaryteacher · 07/07/2009 15:00

Not safer if you were on the T boat with the oxygen canister incident...bid hiss in my household about that. Comes of giving control of that to the loggies and not the WEs.

scaryteacher · 07/07/2009 15:02

Pingping - Afghanistan to be precise, not Iraq. I think he will be allowed to do some, but maybe not the huge storms off Cornwall ones which we often see.

FlappyTheBat · 07/07/2009 15:08

They (submarines) are still a lot safer than when dh was out in Iraq and the base was under constant attack.

Harry is 3rd in line to the throne and no doubt William will marry and produce his own heirs, which will push Harry further and further down the line.
That's probably why he was allowed to see active service in Afghanistan.

As for William, as it is an honorary title, he won't be allowed to use it, I think/hope!

scaryteacher · 07/07/2009 15:11

Depends where you go in submarines really doesn't it? I think there are some extremely hairy moments. I expect my db, also a submariner, will compare when he gets back from Afghanistan in May.

FlappyTheBat · 07/07/2009 15:17

Always dreaded dh going under the ice, he never told me if he did or not.

How long is your db out in Afghanistan for - he's not out there already is he? That would be an awfully long time and so hard for everyone.

scaryteacher · 07/07/2009 15:32

Goes Nov, back May. V glad dh not needed - much safer in Brussels!

Lol @ Greensleeves.... I will store that one away

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 07/07/2009 16:45

Hmm

OP did you lose somene to this then (get impression but not certain)? If so then I think probable over reaction but people who swear at someone who has lost someone to this accident and say it's a joke perhaps THEY need an empathy implant?

Over reaction but understandable one in the sit.

at Greeny, have to agree am afraid

Momdeguerre · 07/07/2009 18:36

Riven/Fab - Ok, a generalisation frm me that everyone at some point speeds/gets distracted/lowers hands from the prescribed 2 and 10 position or generally disobeys the highway code all of which may be attributable to an accident.

I don't believe any driver can ever say they have always adhered to the rules and I would bbe amazed if anyone can honestly say that they have - unless they don't drive?

If so, well done you, wish more people were so responsible.

Simples · 07/07/2009 18:38

what you said.
no one is perfect.

Simples · 07/07/2009 18:40

dhs uncle was seriously injured by someone changing a radio channel

no one ever does that?

snigger · 07/07/2009 18:50

I appreciate that crap meaningless pain happens to people - but this is, in my opinion, a seriously uptight basis for a thread.

In our family, gothic humour in the face of tragedy has often been our salvation - I don't think he wasn't being offensive, just an innocuous comment, and whatever you've been through, if that comment upsets you I'd suggest perhaps your pain is still too raw and fresh to get perspective.
