posted this in education, (Pre-school, like the twit that i am).....my ds is due to start secondary school in 2 years so we're looking around already, i am a bit put off by a school with lots of SN children, as SN also means behaviour problems....i'm not sure if i am being unreasonable.

CT we have cottages here

though when I was small we all huddled in our hovels, hoping DP some kind passer by would pass us a crumb or some hash to get us through the night.

If we were lucky the nice middle class people would let us clean the shit off their shoes for a penny.

hereidrawtheline · 22/06/2009 18:02

I dont think people should even be allowed houses unless they pass all of my tests first... but I'm not telling you the questions.

mollyroger · 22/06/2009 18:02

hahahah! DP, I'm afraid you are deluded.

THE most sought after school in my town, with the teeny tiny catchment area, where 90 families appeakled for 5 places, where the houses start at £350k is the one with the biggest drug problem! Their Drug of choice is Charlie, not common ol' blow!

Because they have huge amounts of disposable income and parents who don't believe it is possible their dear, shiney m/c children could be exposed to drugs....

shootfromthehip · 22/06/2009 18:03

FFS I CANNOT belive that you are still defending yourself DP.

I'm really not surprised that some have a problem with you.

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 22/06/2009 18:04

say no more......

daftpunk · 22/06/2009 18:09

mollyroger...yes i know, drugs are a problem in pretty much all schools...it was a totally crass thing for me to say.

I don't understand this.

Does DP mean her question? I mean, is she ignorant - or is her intention to offend people?

If it was a genuinely meant question - an ignorant one, but then people are ignorant - then dp instead of getting defensive - why not go back and read the thread?

Lots of people have explained the situation to you. If you read and understand, then that might help you in choosing the right school. Part of choosing that school, is going to be about you educating yourself - otherwise you won't be making a smart choice or the right one. If you want to make informed choices, then start by educating yourself. Hence your question perhaps? So why not do that now?

I remember a similar thread about adhd. At the end of which dp seemed to be saying, 'oh okay, I understand this better now. Sorry.'

If you're asking to annoy people. Well. Don't.

Miaow, smallwhitecat! As it were

Jumente · 22/06/2009 18:12

No more crass than usual.

Kimi · 22/06/2009 18:13

DS1 has SN (tourettes) he also has a 148 IQ at age 11.

He was well supported with an LSA one to one in primary school but in high school has to shear LSAs So I do admit (as the mother of an SN child) when we looked at schools we did ask how many SN children per LSA, our 2nd choice of school had a massive amount of SN children but not as many LSAs as they could have done.

I think it IS something that needs to be thought about, if your child is SN or not.

Kimi · 22/06/2009 18:18

Oh missed the sink estate bit, I spent the first 10 years of my life on one and my sister 5, I live in a beautiful house in Surrey now and Sis is a city banker (please do not throw tomatoes )

My children are both bright, healthy, funny, caring and well adjusted (including DS1 who is SN)

It's not where you come form its how you behave that matters, I see some of the girls going to the private school down the road and some of them are skanky as hell

Ouch @ smallwhitecat, succinctly put!

PeachyTheRiverParrettHarlot · 22/06/2009 18:26

''well, i don't want my ds learning how to roll a joint in yr 11.'

you don't know a lot of schoolkids do you DP?

DS1 is naive as result of his SN and wouldnt know what a joint is but most of his mates could tell you.

burningupinspeed · 22/06/2009 18:27

FioFio posted this above, I missed it so am re-posting for anyone else that did.

She wasn't out of order, DP, just showing you up and rightly so.

1)the depressed of mumsnet

2)working mothers

3)parents of children with special needs

4)fat people

5)homosexuals

6)ebay users

Do people from sinks estates play bingo?

katiestar · 22/06/2009 18:40

I think it would depend what the SNs are.I can't see why one school would have a much higher proportion of children with physical disabilities than another. The thing that I would have thought IS likely to vary is the level of Emotional and Behavioural problems.
I think it is very optimistic to say that all children get the 1 to 1 support needed and also to say the learning support can necessarily prevent disruption more react to it.My experience in a R/Yr1 class is that children with behavioural problems are pretty disruptive and often destructive and violent.
Why don't you ask to visit the school and see normal classes in progress. Many schools will allow this ?

BroodyChook · 22/06/2009 18:41

PMSL at 'Troll Bingo'

Lulumama · 22/06/2009 18:42

dp, are you just regurgitating cliches for effect or do you really believe it??

re drugs in schools... 1 child expelled and 2 others suspended from a local private school.

not just an issue in the schools full of sink estate children with SN
