That's the thing I could be. I did not at any time say I drive on public roads in the UK at that speed.

I drive a eight seater, as a CM, and want to put on mine,

'If you can read this, then you are likely to kill the 7 children on board.'

"If you've been caught by speed cameras 3 times you are obviously not paying attention."

I am not making assumptions but this comes across as the epitomy of arrogance - I guess the main thing is not to be caught and then you are a careful and attentive driver.

I would be willing to bet that more often than not accidents are caused by people who believe they are wonderful drivers and don't have to adhere to the rules like everyone else.

The thing that gets me about this whole thing that speeding is the worst offence is the following:

  1. People (usually mums IMO)on mobile phones whilst driving
  2. People who swallow a skinful and drive the next morning
  3. People who do not know how to drive on motorways
  4. People who do not have a clue what is going on around them whilst driving

hf128219 - what was the point of your post then??Do you drive on public roads in the UK at that speed?

Report
mistlethrush · 19/06/2009 14:30

It is a bit scary when you get onto certain Mways in the UK and find that, driving at 75, in the slow lane, you're getting overtaken by lorries, coaches and apparently every other road user...

"get out the boot and I will speed up"

Ahhhh, it all becomes clear - you are Jeremy Clarkson.

Fizzy - if you ever get a spare moment/are very bored go and stand near a busy road and conduct a survey on mobile phone users.

Report
fizzpops · 19/06/2009 14:44

I don't have to go and stand near a busy road I see as many drivers as the next person and as far as I can tell the mobile phone users are a pretty broad demographic. But as you are paying close attention to driving safely I can understand your being mistaken about it

I had someone the other week come belting up behind me on the Mway. I was in the outside lane, doing about 90mph, in the process of overtaking and with no space to get back in, and he sat right on my bumper. When I'd had enough and braked (but not hard) he started beeping and flashing. I don't know quite what he expected me to do.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 19/06/2009 21:17

When we get someone inches off the bumper I say to dh that we need a sign that says "Don't come any closer without lube" or "If you get any closer we will need vaseline"

So annoying. I lightly touch the brakes to give them a scare!

I am sure the man tailgating me this morn has a mn as a wife - wifey said something and he drew back...was it you??

Report

I got dh this fantastic thing that was a plastic fist with sticky things to put on your rear windscreen. There was a long string with a button at the end of it that reached from the rear windscreen to your drivers seat. Then when someone is tailgating you press the button and hey presto - the hand flicks the bird!!! Quality! haven't had the nerve to use it though!!! Will link it if I can find it - think it was on some site like presentsformen or something similar....

hf128219 while the many points you make about unsafe driving are correct (not sure about mobile phone use being confined to mum's aside) I think you are a nob for claiming that 140mph is safe

Lets be honest though, stick at 70mph and you get overtaken by lorrys as already mentioned. I do a steady 80-85mph on the M5 and am aware 100% of the time whats around me. I think the key is to drive at a speed that you feel comfortable at. Lets remember, some people are great drivers, some are appauling, so we cant judge everybody the same. Though, when I was preg with my first, I was pulled over by police at midnight doing 100 in a 30 zone (before anyone cringes it was about to become national limit on a hedgelined wide road-no kids could have run out etc), as he came to my window, I shoved my bump out and cried 'Im so pregant and if I dont wee right now Im gunna do it on the seat!', was the first thing that came to mind. The policeman just smirked, told me to watch it, and to be on my way!!
But as far as car signs go, I have a pad in my glovebox of sheets that say, 'next time you park up my arse leave me a fucking tin opener', great for leaving on the windscreens of people who box you in!

I regularly do 140+ mph. No accidents/points

was what you actually wrote

100 in a 30 zone?????? when you were pregnant????

did you really have so little respect for your unborn child????

and I dont care if it was to become national speed limit .. it wasnt.. and you deserved to have lost your licence for such recklesnees

Just last week I was on a dual carriageway (60mph) and I had pulled out to avoid 4/5 slower moving cars

This dark blue car comes right up my bum.. he flashes me and I touch the brakes. He flashes me again and I hold my hands up and say what in my rear view mirror. He bumps his horn and I tap my brake again. Next time I look in the rearview they are holding up their police id cards...oops.. got out the way and they went flying past waving and laughing

national speed limit on a hedgelined wide road would have only been 60, so u would therefore have still been 40mph over the limit. also, even if the road was clear & visibility was gud etc, u cud hav had wildlife run out in front of u unexpectedly which at 100mph would have caused a drastic accident.
I have a friend who was involved with a collision with a tree at that speed on a clear country lane - as the driver was flung through the passenger window, his head got severed.
My friend was crushed completely from the waist down. These guys were in the motor trade & had years of driving experience.
fair enough, be a confident driver, and maybe go 5-10mph over every now & then, but fgs b careful!!! U can never completely predict what ur journey will hold.
