To let my 5 yr old DS watch The Simpsons?

I think not, but my friend said earlier there was no way she'd let her DC watch it. My exP went at it too.

I know the humour is of an adult nature, but if it's that bad why do channel 4 put it on at 6pm (the same time as ITNG)

And I find some other childrens progs even worse for violence etc.

So, am I the only one who thinks The Simpsons is fine for viewing by an addicted 5 yr old?

Absolutely fine, to be encouraged even.

The Simpson's is an educational programme and free DVD's should be handed out at school to each child in the reception class.

Could be worse, it could be bevis and but head!

It was my son's favourite programme when he was 3 AIR.

There is definitely a case for squeezing The Simpsons onto the National Curriculum somewhere...

Both my boys watched it at that age and I think anything inappropriate goes over Ds2's(6) head.

The amount if information stored in DS's head that I wasn't aware he knew, invariably came from The Simpsons (he's a HUGE fan and has all series on DVD )
Nothing wrong with it in my view, and the adult humour would, on the whole, go straight over your little one's head any way.

LOL my DD2 aged 4 has learned to say 'oh nuts!' and 'on crap !' from watching it.So definitely educational (grin)

DD just understood her Nanny dying and what's going to happen a whole lot better because of the episode when Homer went to spread his mother's ashes.

Watching The Simpsons as a family is probably a better bonding experience than singing madrigals round the piano (not that I've tried the latter). Itchy and Scratchy episodes used to make me cringe when the children were small, and we used to avoid Halloween specials for the benefit of the nightmare-prone one, but I agree that the more inappropriate material goes straight to the keeper. I don't think our children are turning out to be particularly violent, stupid, immoral or even yellow as a result.

The only problem is casual use of words like 'butthead' and 'jerkoff', my dss watch it occasionally and those words did creep into their vocabulary which does sound pretty vile coming out of such young mouths!

I love the simpsons so does my ds(3) but I must say I am that I came on this thread thinking I was going to have to defend the OP and say mine watch it too and you all like it. I never admitted to it before, wondering if in the world of MN simpsons is up there with Fruit Shoots!

My DD (4) has seen it a few times. Some of them are just fine, and some of them aren't, and you never know until it's on.
Hollyoaks is on at tea time too though - and I'd not let her watch that.

once it's not any of the last 3/4 seasons you're fine. anything before that is just genius and should be compulsory for children.
as should real music instead of crappy nursery rhymes.

My lot watch it and you can see bits that we (the adults) find funny go over the boys heads completely. The only bits I don't like is itchy and scratchy and occasionally the odd haloween special and the like

DD (5) never misses an episode - if I'm out of the room at 6pm I get a loud shout of "Mummy - its the simpsons!!" Listerning to her singing the theme tune is the funniest thing!

Come on. I swear my eldest's first word was 'Doh!'. The younger ones had no chance but indoctrination in the ways of the Simpsons. And it is very intelligent satire.

I don't see a problem with the Simpsons... I'm more of a South Park fan, myself, but that's definitely a no-go for the DCs!!!!!!!

Boy has been watching the Simpsons (and Futurama since he was a baby. He can be a bit odd sometimes, but seems none the worse for wear.

He also thinks the Jurassic Park movies are the greatest films ever made and is going to move to LA and make dinosaur movies when he grows up.

He is referred to in this house as "The Boy".

My 3yo watches it too, with me.

I've always been very worried about admitting it though, especially on here.
