Im sori I dnt actually speak like that but being a student and a normal 24yr old who admittitly is addicted to her Phone i do lapse and more often than not revert to forgetting to add a letter to make my words complete. I do not deem this as lazy nor ignorant and i dnt feel that my abbreviations are that different from using DS, DH and FIL on here. I have been told that to use such 'txt spk' or to not write my words completley i will be hated on mumsnet. So am i being unreasonable if i forget my stupid letters?? Think bloody not! Ps, am crap at spelling, does mean im thick though does it

well now you have your answer. Fool.

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 17:44

" have studied with the OU - maths "
clarice - I may get good marks on the course that I'm on, but I would struggle to get 50% on a maths course! Simply because I'm no good at maths!

similarly, someone on an IT course with OU, may not get very good marks were they to study a psychology course.

Do you see what I mean?

SerendipitousHarlot · 16/06/2009 17:45

your obviously all here for a little confrontation and you got it.

No, YOU wanted confrontation, and YOU got it.

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 17:46

i did indeed

HullabaLuLu · 16/06/2009 17:47

HailStorm, you went to all that trouble of setting up a public profile just to find out if people on forums judge other posters for using text speak?

I'd have thought you would only set up a public profile if you were planning to stick around.

Perhaps you are...but so far you haven't made many friends and if I was CB I'd be questioning the friendship after letting her defend you like she has.

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/06/2009 17:47

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the thread title ?

Even when translated it doesn't make sense

"Am I being unreasonable? : 2 b'in told tht im nt allwed 2 use txt spk on this site??"

"Am I being unreasonable? : To being told that I'm not allowed to use text speak on this site??"

I obviously missed a vital meeting at the Brain Trust....

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 17:47

I duno but text speak for total twat is soupdragon

LadyThompson · 16/06/2009 17:49

Dear OP:

1.Your tedious, first base 'social experiment' has done nothing bar give everyone a pain in the ass.

2.It 'proves' nothing. As a study, it is random, and poorly executed.

  1. People talk about all sorts of things on here and strong opinions are legion. Which is fine. I am sure people would gladly have discussed the whole issue of text speak with you; it's been discussed many times before. But spare us the 'aha, I was studying you from on high' routine, do. Particularly if you can't express yourself well enough to pull it off.
  1. Just as an aside - anyone else a bit disappointed in the OU? Talk about a sad indictment of declining standards.
HolyGuacamole · 16/06/2009 17:50

Yes YABU.....

ThePhantomPlopper · 16/06/2009 17:50

Nice.

Thunderduck · 16/06/2009 17:50

You certainly know how to make yourself popular, don't you Hailstorm?

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/06/2009 17:51

But 'soupdragon' has more letters than 'total twat' so that doesn't really fit with the theory of text speak being like a modern day shorthand, does it ?

[ponders]

FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/06/2009 17:52

Ahhhhhhhhh, you see I don't have a degree so perhaps this thread is too highbrow for my tiny mind to comprehend ?

ThePhantomPlopper · 16/06/2009 17:52

Hailstorm do us all a favour stop being such a 'soupdragon' and thin out back to where ever it was you came from.

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 17:52

Perhaps you are...but so far you haven't made many friends and if I was CB I'd be questioning the friendship after letting her defend you like she has. and i have asked people to leave her alone as she isn't apart of this. She just being a mate and defending me, to me that speaks volumes about her character that in spite of the fact that she warned me off and knew others would 'flame' me or whatever its called she still, knowing this tryed to defend me. AND I WOULD DO THE SAME FOR HER AND SHE KNOWS THIS!
To me thats a great friend!!

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 17:52

lol Figment good point

BitOfFun · 16/06/2009 17:53

Where do you develop your intellect if you don't read books, only magazines, if you don't mind me asking? I just looked at the the profile you took the trouble to create, you see.

claricebeansmum · 16/06/2009 17:53

CB - maths almost always an absolute. It is possible to get 100%.

But other subjects can be subjective and discursive. Opinion is argued and backed up, hypothesis are to be disproved etc and this is where is it nigh on impossible to get 100%.

I'm at the 100% that's all...

Thunderduck · 16/06/2009 17:54

No need to shout at us Hailstorm. That's what you are doing when you type a sentence entirely in capitals.

ThePhantomPlopper · 16/06/2009 17:54

** those are stars.

You use these "" for quotes.

cordonbleugh · 16/06/2009 17:55

This will not affect my frienship with Hail by the way!!

I certainly don't think any less of her, despite disagreeing with her inappropriate attitude on here today.

HailStorm · 16/06/2009 17:55

Ladythompson as previously stated twice i never said i was conducting a social experiment re-read over the old posts ffs.

OP posts:
FigmentOfYourImagination · 16/06/2009 17:55

BOF, 'tis obviously a work of "stupidisums" [sic] as it also states that OP is both "funny" and "witty".

Who knew ?

claricebeansmum · 16/06/2009 17:57

Surely you have to read books for your degree?

Or has the OU completely derailed?

I think we should be told.

Poppity · 16/06/2009 17:58

Unless you intended to be judged on what happens when you are rude and confrontational on a subject you have been told is unpopular, then you can really take nothing from your 'social experiment'.

If the study you have undertaken so far had done it's job properly you would be aware of the faults within your post and subsequent comments in the context of a social experiment.

I think it's a shame that qualifications are so easy to come by. It undermines the value of a degree when someone with your obvious lack of understanding in the field you are studying can gain such high marks.

I find it particularly difficult to understand your marks given that you have been unclear in your posts as to what you were attempting to discover? I would have thought that a vital part of a good essay was clarity of purpose rather than meaningless posturing?
