just took my son to the shop hes 2.6 hes got gdd/sn on the way bk home he fell over and i could hear them laughing and said a nasty remark ooh im so

One day your child will be a teenager and you'll do everything right and he'll be a knob just like them because it's a stupid phrase they all go through, hopefully nobody will smack your kid.

You have no idea how your child will turn out neither do i but teenagers generally do act like pricks no matter how lovely parents it only takes one in a group to make the adft comment and the others to feel they have to laugh to be seen as cool.
Don't let it get to you is all i'm saying cos they all seem to go through the knob stage. And come out the other side nice human beings too.

i often want to smack three teenagers, two of them my own. perfectly normal. I would like to be able to reach back in time and smack myself too.

I think most some teenagers would have laughed even if the child was NT.
BUT, must be that much more irksome when child has SN.

i have two older kids age 19/16 and they never laugh at anybody whith sn as my daughter works we sn kids its not the first time this happend she once took him to a park and a load of kids on a sn bus came in there was some kids mocking them in frount of there parents and they never said nothing so my dd let rip

I never laughed at children (or anybody for that matter) with sn and I'm damn sure when my 2 are older they won't either.

Sorry KathyBrown but not all teenagers would laugh at a small child falling over. I know my DD would rush to help and ask if he was okay and so would most of her friends both male and female.

well I have a 17 yr old, and I don't think he would lol at a small person falling over....teen does not equal shit imo.sadly some are though

I'll be the first to admit I was a precocious (sp?) teenager but I would never of laughed at a small child fall over whether they had special needs or not.

No I don't know what sn/ggd stands for. I'm sure not all teenagers would laugh but a lot would, they do some odd things when their parents aren't looking, but I don't think it justifies the OP smacking anyone even in her head

Special Needs and Global Developmental Delay. So cocolepew is right when she says that the OP's ds won't be "just like them".

YANBU OP my ds has ASD and already at age 6 I am shocked and saddened by other childrens's responses to him. Not all teenagers are like this I know I wasn't and a couple of my ds's one to ones at school have been teenagers and they have been amazing with him.

Yanbu, I would have had a go at them. My kids have autism, my 4 year old is lf, and I want to hit anyone who eve nrolls their eyes at my boy.
In my teens, I was a bit, ahem out of control, and I would never have laughed at a small child falling over.

Yanbu - i would want to tear them to pieces.

II would like to challenge stereotype of kids with SN being victims all their lives though - I have worked with lots of children wwith all kinds (and sometimes very severe) of disabilities and found that they are just as likely to take the pi** out of each other as kids who don't have any particular SN. I found it quite heartening that all kids, SN or not, become stroppy teenagers.

I have 2 teenagers and find it amazing that so many people think that all teenagers are yobs. The ones who are off enjoying sport, hobbies and time with friends aren't there for you to notice, that's all.

its ok my dd 16 will sort them out, ones her age and shes already had a go at her from before for saying your brothers a (spazz) i hate that word and the lass said she would not say it again but she has thers no need for it at all
