To not want to spend £46 on a mini micro scooter for 2 year old?

I hear they're the best but I'm reluctant to fork out that much and DH is getting bit fed up of the amount I'm spending whilst on maternity leave with number 2! Anyone know of any bargains or good discounts?

no, even if you get one on ebay they go for a fair whack.

they are the best and will last for ages - you can always ebay afterwards...

They are fantastic though. Absolutely brilliant.

DD is now nearly 6 and alas when our car was stolen, her scooter was in the car (still being regularly used). She now has the next one up - 2 wheels. And hates it

Just would say that while she had it for her 3rd birthday, she didn't really get the hang of scootering for a few months (but then she generally isn't a natural at wheeled things). Once she "got it" was absolutely definitely worth the money.

do you mean a bike without pedals? Or is this different?

Really? are they that good? Bit worried about buying and regretting as I keep making bad purchases on toys. Have seen an old thread with some good discount codes but they're all out of date. Was hoping someone might help me spot a bargain?

I agree with everyone who said they are worth it. DS got his when he was 2, now 3.3 and still loves it (though he has worn the back wheel out with braking). We scoot to nursery every day. It's great. Think of the saving in bus fares...

I know they cost a lot, but they really are very good. My (just gone) 2 year old whizzes up to nursery and back, all round the park and to the shops on hers. Its been worth every penny.

oh yes definitely agree with other posters - we got one for dd who's 3 at xmas - worth every penny, she's on it every day and loves it - much more stable than the 2 wheelers and the ones with 2 wheels at the back. and i'm sure will last her a good couple more years.

Kaz 33 I'm in OXford but have very good friend in Littlehampton- is that near you? Am meeting her half way in a week...would absoltely want it for a tenner if possible!

You don't need the expensive one with 2 wheels at the front, DD is 3 and loves the garishly foul pink flashing one I got her for her birthday - it's like the metal ones but has 2 wheels at the back and only cost £20.

No one wears a helmet round here.

They are so worth the money. Based on friends' experiences, if you get one, you won't need a double buggy.

Seems expensive but they are definitely very good and worth every penny, IF you walk lots. DS has had hours and hours of use of his and will have many more to come. He scoots to nursery and home most days, to the shops, park, anywhere I want to walk in fact. We make much quicker progress than we would if he was on foot when he couldn't keep pace with my required speed and would get distracted with things along the way. I also think it is great for his balance and physical awareness.

DS's cousins, on the other hand, both have scooters but rarely use them as they tend to get driven everywhere (live in countryside) so not worth the expense for them.

Downside for us it that DS is a very reluctant walker (but who's to say he wouldn't have been anyway) but even so I have to say if scooter got lost/broken I would replace it in a heartbeat, over and over.

I'm thinking of designing one with a longer wheelbase that has a small platform & extra handles on the front for a small child. I could scoot us both down the hill to school

I agree with Soupdragon's first post about getting a cheaper one if it is a question of money. DS1(7) has a two wheeled metal one, which he loves, that only cost £10

However, I also agree with the others who say that the micro scooter is great and in my case it is value for money as I can pass it from the 4yr old to the 2yr old (if it lasts that long)

Having said that, although DS2 got it for his 4th birthday, it is DS3 (2.2) who actually rides it! Like pooka's DD, DS2 is not a natural with wheeeled things

Yes we walk everywhere as DH uses our only car for work. Just had DD 7 weeks ago and DS not so keen on the buggy but walks slowly or runs away! Was hoping scooter might reign him in but budget is tight as usual! Does seem to be the best one though. BTW, am LOVING being back on Mumsnet after too long a break. I've missed you all...;o

How much do they go for second hand on ebay? Contemplating whether it is worth doing this with dd's old one but was hoping for more than £10

The mini micro is our third scooter - the first too cheap scooters were crap - heavy, couldn't get the hang of them etc, a real false economy. Mini micro is worth every penny

They are great - by far ~DSs favourite thing, and should last at least 2 children.

DS (3) rides his on the pavement so I make him wear a helmet (not sure what good it will do him if he careers into the road . Not in the park though.
