Yes it's today.

There is a real possibilty the BNP will get a seat.

If you don't vote you are kind of complicit in any victory they have.

so VOTE VOTE VOTE

the polls are open til 10pm
if you forgot to send a postal vote you can hand it in to the polling station.

I am not planning on voting, but you do make one hell of a good point there noonki - but one that means im going to spend my day trying to search out my polling card! bollocky bollox.

Would it be horribly complacent to think that because i live in a conservative stronghold which is (i hate to say this) affluent and white that i dont need to worry about the BNP? It would be wojuldnt it, i had a leaflet through my door, fuck, i have to vote - but who to vote FOR? If i waste my vote on a small party i may as well not bother - does that mean i have to vote for one of the bigger parties that i have no faith in?? Oh dear, this is why i don't vote, does my HEAD in!

FAQinglovely · 04/06/2009 09:35

I am going to try and get into town to vote - not sure how to fit it in with schools but will do my best - can't vote tonight as I'm not walking down in the evening on my own and the buses will have stopped by then

leonifay · 04/06/2009 09:40

you dont need your poling card to vote as long as you know where your polling station is, just turn up and tell them your adress and name.

Wheelybug · 04/06/2009 09:43

I'm going to vote shortly - although no idea who I'm going to vote for but it will be voting against rather than for IYSWIM. I also think voting is important even though I don't have any strong political leanings.

May just get dd to do the cross .

Noonki · 04/06/2009 09:43

lucyellen and FAQ do it!!!

sometimes it is only a handful of votes that makes the difference and given the current political climate no one knows what will happen.people will be disillutnalled with the tories and go for a more extremist group.

Lucyellen, there is a real possibility that in a tory stronghold a lot of

on the other thread this website was given in which you do a quiz as to which policys you like and it tells you which party most agrees with you

I've asked my Dad to tell me who to vote for as I agree with his politics and haven't a clue myself.

Probably liberal i think. Didn't realise it was today, how crap am I? Someone at school mentioned it.

andiem · 04/06/2009 09:48

I HAVE

TrillianAstra · 04/06/2009 09:48

I know who I want to vote for on the county council elections, but not europe so might try your thingy Noonki.

HAte BNP things by the side of big roads saying 'say no to the EU' with a £ symbol. Because the EU and joining the Euro are synonymous, right? I don't want to join the Euro, but I do want to stay in the EU. Definitely targeting those who don't understand the distinction.

Wheelybug · 04/06/2009 09:49

Noonki - that was potentially very helpful although am embarrassed to admit I didn't know enough about some of the issues. The main problem though is that my result came out equal between the two parties I'm choosing between so didn't help me in the end!!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 04/06/2009 09:50

Lucyellensmum, the BNP have been campaigning hard in white Tory areas near us, which I guess must mean they think they are in with a chance.
The BNP aren't going to sweep to power in this election but they could very well get some of the few seats they need to get a toehold which will put them in a much stronger position for the future.

LaundryFairy · 04/06/2009 09:51

All done. Helps that polling station is at DS' school. I agree with you - the thought of BNP getting in sends shivers down my spine!

TrillianAstra · 04/06/2009 09:52

WHo on earth are 'Libertas'?

AliGrylls · 04/06/2009 09:53

People will be disillusioned but most people with a brain will not be voting BNP.

I'm voting lib dems. They are the best of a bad bunch. I like Nick Clegg and grey haired dude, Vincent Campbell.

There was an article on Vincent in the Sunday Times (Relative Values) and he seems like a really nice, honest guy. He is one of the few whose hands have not been caught in the kitty.

FAQinglovely · 04/06/2009 09:55

Noonki - it's easy to say "do it" - but it's a long trek from here to town and I have commitments this afternoon before school run time. Of course if the polling station wasn't so difficult to get to I wouldn't even be wondering if I could make it today......

NationalFlight · 04/06/2009 09:56

Apparently there is a party called 'English liberal' or something which is basically a cover for the BNP? Friend just told me that. So don't be hoodwinked.

Thanks for the link Noonki, I hadn't a CLUE about most of those questions but managed about 6 answers.

It came out as green with liberal a close second, so will prob tactically go with liberal.

NationalFlight · 04/06/2009 09:57

Faq, did you apply for a postal vote?

Longtalljosie · 04/06/2009 10:01

Trillian - these guys

Noonki · 04/06/2009 10:07

faq..how annoying, we seem to have a polling station on the corner of every street here

I would apply for a postal vote next time if i were you.

There are loads of made up parties on the voting form here. Haven't a clue who most of them are or what their policies are. Actually, I haven't a clue what any of the parties policies are...

HelloBeastie · 04/06/2009 10:13

Rehashing my post from the 'Vote tomorrow' thread...

The beauty of the European elections is that they are proportional representation so you can vote for the party you actually support, not just the one you think has a chance of winning.

But each constituency has several MEPs, so if you get over 15-20% of the vote you get a seat.
Eg, my constituency (West Midlands) has:
3 x Conservatives
2 x Labour
1 x Lib Dem
1 x UKIP

That's why the BNP are so excited, if they get over a certain percentage of the total vote they will get an MEP seat, with all the accordant publicity and funding. And if only, y'know, 100 people turned out to vote, they could do that with 20 votes. Which is why the BNP may benefit from this expenses hoo-ha making voters for the main parties not bother turning out.

Nice link Noonki! Just helped me decide

Noonki · 04/06/2009 10:36

It's good isn't it morningtownride posted it on the other thread.

(I have to admit I wasnt sure about some of the questions!)

OP posts:
TigersChick · 04/06/2009 10:43

FAQ - Register to do postal voting for future elections. It's really easy and it comes (or at least should come) about a week to 10 days before the poling day so you have plenty of time to return it.

I've just done that thingy that Noonki linked to and the party I voted for was my second-best match. I seriously considered voting for me best-match one but there were one or two policies I couldn't square with ... Very interesting tho as I' a bit of a dunce when it comes to politics - I know what I like but I'm never quite certain which party stands for what!
