Yes it's today.

There is a real possibilty the BNP will get a seat.

If you don't vote you are kind of complicit in any victory they have.

so VOTE VOTE VOTE

the polls are open til 10pm
if you forgot to send a postal vote you can hand it in to the polling station.

Noonki - I've chucked it in Chat too.

It really helped me as I didn't have a clue!

I also had to Wiki the Lisbon Treaty too!

FAQinglovely · 04/06/2009 12:14

oh and another thing I would bet my last rolo that when I get there later I will have the choice of labour and conservative for the council. They always send round loads of flyers, all the different parties, but then in my ward there's only ever been 2 parties candidates to vote for

I didn't apply for a postal vote as I didn't realise that the polling station this year would be so far from me. I should have remembered from last time and it was a long walk but different location (didn't make it then as it was a boiling hot day and I was heavily pg and could hardly move let alone take - what was then - 2 small children along with me ).

Annoying thing is that DS1's school is closed today - for elections.........and it's closer to where I live than where I have to go and vote .

MichKit · 04/06/2009 12:19

I'd like to vote (my first time voting) but I've come down with a horrible case of chicken pox so can't got out until I stop being infectious. Gutted!!!

seeker · 04/06/2009 12:21

YOU DON'T NEED A POLLING CARD TO VOTE!!!!!!!!!

I went to vote tactically and I really REALLY TRIED to, but my hand wouldn't let me!

GO ON EVERYBODY - vote Green or something if you have to- anything to keep the BNP out!

Goober · 04/06/2009 12:22

Done (postal vote).

Tamarto · 04/06/2009 12:24

You do need to be on the voters roll though don't you?

MichKit · 04/06/2009 12:25

Brilliant, that vote matcher thing. It matched me to the Greens who I have been meaning to vote for!!!

FAQinglovely · 04/06/2009 12:29

well it matched me to the Greens followed by Tory . Lib Dem and Labour at the bottom! I don't think .

I may not want to vote Labour (Labour girl born and bred) but I would eat my left arm before I voted Tory LOL.

sagacious · 04/06/2009 12:30

Done : there were 15 European candidates on the form (including BNP and some decided dodgy anti everything parties) And an ickle sweetie little animals count too one (reckon they might be popular with the spoilers this year

squirrel42 · 04/06/2009 12:30

You do need to have previously registered to vote, yes tomarto. If you're not now then remember to register asap for next time!

I voted this morning. Lib Dems. Was very tempted to scribble through the BNP names but I worried that might be considered "spoiling my ballot" and would make my nice neat cross next to the Lib Dem box not count, so I held back...

junkcollector · 04/06/2009 12:31

I think it's our duty to vote. Women died so we could. " Emily Davison"

Tamarto · 04/06/2009 12:34

I think that is the worst arguement in the world, to make people want to vote JC.

They fought to give us the right to choose.

wilbur · 04/06/2009 12:36

Am just off to vote now. Everyone must vote! Even if you just go in and spoil your ballott paper as a protest at how crap they are, you have to register your opinion, or else how are they ever going to change?

seeker · 04/06/2009 12:38

This particular election is one where "in order for evil to triumph it is enough that the good do nothing"

girlandboy · 04/06/2009 12:44

Just done the vote-match thing.

It came out with the Green Party, which is good as I didn't know who else to vote for really.

A shame that I'm in a very traditional Tory area - always has been, probably always will be.

UNLESS MY VOTE FOR THE GREENS WILL JUST TIP THE BALANCE.

junkcollector · 04/06/2009 12:44

Yes I can imagine they would be thrilled to think that people have the right to choose and are choosing not to cos they can't find their polling card or haven't got the time!

I'm sure it'll get me flamed but I think saying we have the right to choose whether to vote or not is bollocks! It is our duty as citizens in a democratic society- even if you just go and write ' YOU ARE ALL PANTS' on the voting card. Thousands of people around the world have given their lives for demoracy and voting is the way we can ensure (in part) that it continues!

I very rarely stand up for things and spend most of my time on the fence but the excuses people make for not being bothered to put a little cross in a box really gets my goat.

junkcollector · 04/06/2009 12:44

Answering Tamarto

girlandboy · 04/06/2009 12:47

Does anyone know why there are always a couple of people sitting outside the polling station who request to see your card? Who are they?

I was once told that these people have no right to see your personal details, therefore dh and I always decline to show them the cards, and sail on past.

Someone told me that they just sit there to see who actually bothers to vote.

Glitterknickaz · 04/06/2009 12:52

I have done my civic duty.
So up yours, Nick Griffin

FAQinglovely · 04/06/2009 12:53

actually while I think everyone should vote I don't buy that argument junk - people vote for the right to vote, for democracy, for people to have a choice, and imho that should also mean a choice to not vote if they don't want to.

seeker · 04/06/2009 12:53

GO JC!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. There are countries in the world where people queue for hours in a tropical heatwave to vote. Women in this countries gave their freedom, their health and their lives so that we could vote. The least we can do is take a 5 minute diversion on the school run to put a cross in a box.

FAQinglovely · 04/06/2009 12:54

"The least we can do is take a 5 minute diversion on the school run to put a cross in a box. "

5 minutes - hang on a minute I'm not Usain Bolt

FAQinglovely · 04/06/2009 12:54

they gave those things for us to have the right to vote - not so that we HAD to vote.

girlandboy · 04/06/2009 12:57

Does no-one have an answer to my previous question?

Come on, I'm putting my shoes on to go and vote.

Tamarto · 04/06/2009 12:57

Exactly FAQ.
