I want to stand my rellies in the back garden with no tops on in the blazing sun and see how well they sleep tonight

DS (10) has been out with them to the beach today and has come home with a bright red back....no sun cream has been applied at all!!! I would have done it if they had been up as i left for work this morning.

There was a big bag of suncream in his bag and he can apply it himself but he cant do his own back!!!!

Oh i think tonight is going to be a long one!!!, he says he feels ok and that it doesnt matter but I am also annoyed with DS for not reminding them to put his sun cream on

i have just got him out of a nice luke warn bath and covered him in after sun.....am ready with the neurofen

I'd go and get some burn stuff from the nearest supermarket either burneeze or the gel stuff

At 10 he is surely capable of applying his own suncream!

I'm much older than 10 and can't apply sun cream to my own back!

Make sure he keeps drinking water.

sleepymommy....i am angry with him for not asking...but MIL knew he had suncream in his bag to be applied....she could also have reminded him and offered to do his bag,

With DS its a case of, have football will play - suncream is not a priority on his list of beach activities....after tonight i think it will be..

I would be furious. 10 yr olds are still having that much fun it's not for them to remember.

We went to the beach today and i took a friends boy with me. I was obsessed, suncream city.

I wish I had the courage to go and have a word with them for being so thoughtless, I think they would think me ungrateful for them minding him and DD all day.

I shall just make sure that if this happens again I shall remind all of them....he is now covered in goosebumps ...and has a ready brek glow...I am soooooo mad

stoppin.... you are clearly a calmer person than me, cos i would have been on the phone by now!!

Your football comment made me , as this is ds exactly. I honestly think that 10 is still to young to remember suncream.

Bless his little sole, he's gonna be sore... lashings of aftersun and pain relief for the wee man.

My 10 year old has a burnt back too, out with MIL yesterday!!!! Are all MIL nightmares????? I want to shout something really load at her but not sure what.

Shame. It's a grown-up responsibility to take care of these issues, anyway - little boys need to spend sunny days being little boys. Sorry for your DS - not his fault, MIL dropped the ball on this occasion.

Blimey SA2 - poor C - hope he is ok in the morning . Just keep ladling the aftersun on him, and damp paper towels, etc. Would a hot water bottle filled with icy water help him sleep?

I have been chasing T around all day slapping him wih suncream and put some on DD before she went to school. He has a faint tan on his legs but no much. His mother on the other hand has a red glow around the back of her neck and shoulders - wearing a sun top and going for a 20 min walk was not my brightest idea - trying to be healthy walking to friends rather than using car! That will teach me.

Someone needs to invent a 'cream putter on your back' device for all of us!

abraid - dont think sunburn and potential sunstroke that could have been avoided by slapping on some suncream or putting a shirt on constitutes stopping kids having fun on a sunny day.....

ar....lol at the thought of you chasing T around the garden...him all grased up with sun cream n all!!! slippery monkey.

I am not a precious mummy btw, to those who dont know me, my children all come back from holidays abroad with a nice gradual tan build up over time...DD only has to look in the suns general direction and she is a beautiful golden brown...but i do not want them to suffer sun burn and sun stroke..I have had both as a child in the 70's when sun cream was like something you would swim the channel in!!

but DS's back is ridiculous...if that was me it would be stinging...he says it is ok but his arms are full of goose bumps, I think he is worried i will moan at MIL so he is insisting it is ok

Maybe when she see's the poor mites back she will feel horrified enough for herself!

I think next time...if there is a next time ...i shall make a point of saying, could you make sure the suncream goes on, he was soooo sore last time and he forgets to put it on himself.

What I love about mn is i have had a chance to sound off about it, whilst sorting him out and making sure he is comfortable, and saving myself from sounding off on rellies who would have got the brunt of my anger, probably gone ott and started a big row, which DS would absolutely hate
