Racism

A sad fact of life...

I do think that the people who stand by and let people get away with it are as bad as the perpetrators...

AIBU to expect widespread condemnation of it?

What are you talking about? Who stands by?

Tortington · 28/05/2009 23:09

Sheesh Roneef - do you never give up.

RustyBear · 28/05/2009 23:12

No-one was 'letting people get away with it' If they had believed the person in question had been guilty of racism, of course they would have condemned it.

GypsyMoth · 28/05/2009 23:13

Guilty of starting a thread about a thread then!!

Tortington · 28/05/2009 23:14

oh sommats going on - please fill me in cos, i think mn is as boring as shit tonight - would dealy love some action so to speak

harleyd · 28/05/2009 23:14

roneef · 28/05/2009 23:15

It's a genuine thread. Continuation of thought if anything.

Happened a lot recently.

You are right custardo!! Doesn't explain it happening though..

Custardo, tis to do with curry leaves, ecxema (sp), the smug thread....

roneef · 28/05/2009 23:17

Not Mumsnet!!

In RL.

Rather than calling me bitch for poor driving its always 'black bitch'

It's almost instinct for some

OP posts:
Lizzylou · 28/05/2009 23:18

And breathe....

Roneef you are acting v bizarrely..

Lizzylou · 28/05/2009 23:21

OK, so is that any worse than just "bitch"?

Just some knumbskull's way of defining us Mom's.

I've had "fat" bitch as well, to add to insults....and I am not that bad tbh

GypsyMoth · 28/05/2009 23:21

Roneef!! Come on, it's 'white bitch' alot too you know!! (not me personally, thinking of dd schoolfriends)

Tortington · 28/05/2009 23:22

oh i hid the smug thread i thought it would go pete tong and didn't want to get involved

so who is being racist then?

Lizzylou · 28/05/2009 23:24

NO-one is Custy, no-one

roneef · 28/05/2009 23:25

Really tiffany?

I/m genuinely surprised..

It is worse than just bitch though Lou.

Surprised you don't think so

OP posts:
MillyR · 28/05/2009 23:29

I think 'black bitch' is worse than 'fat/white bitch' or just 'bitch.'

I don't think bystanders are as bad as perpetrators though. Someone who is mad enough to shout racist insults is also mad enough to potentially get physically dangerous.

I have often said nothing during racist incidents between strangers on public transport, particularly when I have my children with me.

Tortington · 28/05/2009 23:31

how can black bitch be worse than white bitch?

ridic.

GypsyMoth · 28/05/2009 23:34

It's just as offensive!!

But White British people seem to be fair game for racism......it's what I've found. Was particularly bad in one place we lived during time ex dh was serving in the army!!

MillyR · 28/05/2009 23:34

I think it is worse because black people are discriminated against in our society and white people generally aren't, so to single someone out by referring to them being black is part of a wider discrimination that they experience and so more distressing. White people don't experience this because they don't live with discrimination all the time.
