This debate has kind of been done now on the other post don't you think?

Thunderduck · 27/05/2009 21:38

Free range and battery eggs were discussed on the other thread too.

loobeylou · 27/05/2009 21:40

would not buy battery eggs myself, but would not slag off those who are doing the best they can to feed their kids on a limited budget either, battery eggs are better than frozen ready meals any day!

Lulumama · 27/05/2009 21:41

oh for goodness sakes

why do we need a duplicate of the other thread??

that was enough, surely?

Lovesdogsandcats · 27/05/2009 21:42

Did not rea it all
Surely the extra 50p or whatever is not THAT hard to find?

southeastastra · 27/05/2009 21:42

bohemianbint · 27/05/2009 21:43

I buy organic free range eggs in part because have had horrid experiences with inhumane eggs smelling and tasting of fish.

differentID · 27/05/2009 21:43

oh for goodness sake! not another one.

southeastastra · 27/05/2009 21:43

Thunderduck · 27/05/2009 21:48

Sometimes I buy battery eggs AND I feed them to my kids!
Sometimes I buy free range eggs.
Sometimes a friend gives me some eggs from her own hens.

I am obviously ever such a bad person. I care not what you think of me.

MillyR · 27/05/2009 21:55

If you don't care what people think of you, why are you posting on an internet forum?

Ponders · 27/05/2009 21:55

organic free range eggs are very expensive in most supermarkets - about £2 for 6 in Sainsburys for instance?

"We pay a 2p premium per dozen eggs to the farmer to support this type of farming" - 2p on £4? The price difference between those eggs & the rest is much more than that, isn't it? Who gets the extra?

To be fair they do have 15 "Family" free range eggs for £2.39 but that's still a lot more than battery, isn't it? I would be interested to see a price breakdown.

I feel really lucky because after years of paying the supermarket premium for organic free-range, someone at work has started bringing in the misshapes from a local free-range farm at 50p for 6 medium, 60p for large, & they are lovely eggs (shells sometimes a bit fragile but you can't have everything). I wish they could be more widely available...

Lovesdogsandcats · 27/05/2009 21:58

Why buy them goober?
Is it really skint-ness that forces your hand to pick them up?

OP posts:
Lovesdogsandcats · 27/05/2009 21:59

Ponders you're lucky being able to buy thm.

I personally want to see all battery places closed down, and the eggs banned.

OP posts:
Goober · 27/05/2009 22:03

I buy them as they are good eggs and YES, they are cheaper for me. I am on a tight budget and I buy them at Lidl.
There are 5 of us. If we have ommelettes one night I use 10 eggs.

differentID · 27/05/2009 22:04

If you can't afford it don't eat it attitude- if that was the case, the poorest people wouldn't eat anything at all!
If you buy eggs at the supermarket, the inflated prices don't get handed on to farmers at anything like the price difference. It's the same for things like milk too

bohemianbint · 27/05/2009 22:04

We're planning to get chickens soon so free happy eggs all round.
