Lockets its because of the cruelty aspect.
Its a way of life now to read an ingredients list.

If I served that shepherd's pie to my DH after he had been at work all day he'd ask where the main course was.

jasper · 27/05/2009 22:32

Actually I do buy free range because I want the better quality (I don't have eggs very often anyway) but if battery eggs were better I'd buy those.

If the chickens wanted better treatment they should have made the effort to invent humanwire before we invented chickenwire.

Lovesdogsandcats · 27/05/2009 22:33

Yes lockets!

and just how long do you need to soak the beans for? it's fine if you are super organised etc, but what about those days when everything goes wrong and you have 5 minutes to get a meal together?

Thunderduck · 27/05/2009 22:33

I think I'll make that shepherd's pie soon. I love pulses and it sounds much nicer than one made with quorn.

Lovesdogsandcats · 27/05/2009 22:34

dumb, dumb and dumber tonight- what the hell does that mean

Lovesdogsandcats · 27/05/2009 22:35

Goober · 27/05/2009 22:37

But we want food not cardboard to eat!
I'm off, have seen enough.

Thunderduck · 27/05/2009 22:38

What's wrong with pulses and legumes Goober?

ravenAK · 27/05/2009 22:38

Not necessarily cruel, but definitely condoning unnecessary cruelty.

FR eggs aren't that expensive, & they've come down massively in price (relative to caged hen eggs) because they are in wider demand.

Supermarkets use pretty sophisticated price targetting. If we tell them we want FR, FR will get cheaper still. If we carry on buying '4 hens to an A4 sized cage', they'll carry on charging a premium for the ethical few who do insist on FR. It's basic economics - if you care AT ALL, vote with your purchasing power & watch that premium fall.

Lovesdogsandcats · 27/05/2009 22:38

if anyone is thinking of doing that recipe, I modified it slightly by making up veg stock with the water, and adding some tomato puree...was yum

Thunderduck · 27/05/2009 22:39

I'll be trying it Lovecats so I'll make it that way thankyou.
