To be annoyed that over 80 years after women were first able to vote...

...we still only get political pamphlets addressed to my dh in the run-up to an election?

Now, I'm not desperate to spend my free time reading these things but, as I intend to vote, I like to know where the various candidates stand on certain issues. My dh and I are both registered to vote, but it appears that the various parties address their leaflets to what used to be termed 'the head of the household', which they (laughingly) assume to be dh .

Obviously, I don't want them to duplicate and send 2 leaflets, that would be a waste, but I'm a bit irritated by it.

Am I being unreasonable or is my fluffy-kitten female brain in danger of overheating if I read these without male approval or supervision ?

We got 2 in the post today, from the Greens (one for me, one for dp)

EvenBetaDad · 21/05/2009 19:40

funtimewincies - YANBU as this happened today to us with the Tory one and DW made the same comment.

giraffesCantRunA10k · 21/05/2009 19:41

yanbu

DottedPyjamas · 21/05/2009 19:41

We get two of each too. What a waste of resources, I'd much rather they send one - don't care who it's addressed to.

RedCharityBonney · 21/05/2009 19:41

Yanbu.

GrubbityWitch · 21/05/2009 19:43

Ours come with my DH's name and address on a label, with a label stuck over the top of his with my name and address

So clearly I win

funtimewincies · 21/05/2009 19:45

Obviously news has got round the neighbourhood as to who wears the trousers in your household Grubbitywitch !

OP posts:
doobry · 21/05/2009 19:47

Why can't they put 2 names on 1 leaflet?

TheCrackFox · 21/05/2009 19:53

YANBU

However we have not received any pamphlets from any political party at all yet.

thederkinsdame · 21/05/2009 19:54

TBH I get more pissed off when I hear women laugh and say they're not going to bother voting. It's such an insult to all the women who fought to be able to.

MIAonline · 21/05/2009 20:06

Well I got one today from the conservatives and my DH hasn't got one.. now that's something i didn't think I would ever see!

Mousey84 · 21/05/2009 20:18

The first 18th birthday card I got was from some political party or another. It was quite funny....didnt vote for him tho.

Weegiemum · 21/05/2009 20:20

I'd rather not get any pamphlets at all. There's no info on them and its all self serving pap.

But YANBU. The Pankhursts will be spinning in their respective graves!

nickytwotimes · 21/05/2009 20:22

Yanbu.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 21/05/2009 20:25

We just get them all stuffed through the letter box with no name or address on them.

i don't think either of us has ever had one addressed to either of us.

Maybe there is a difference in how they distribute them around the country...

funtimewincies · 22/05/2009 18:54

Thanks for the supportive replies !

It's a bit complicated here in Wales as we elect A.M.s (Assembly Members) as well as MPs, Euro MPs and local councillors.

We also can't get the Welsh news (since going digital), despite living in Wales , so rely on the internet and the party bumph to get an idea of what's happening on the political agenda where we live.

I always vote though even when I'm really struggling to find any good points about any of the candidates/parties, partly because of the female sufferage battle which we now take for granted.

Peachy · 22/05/2009 18:55

The Conservative one came to me today

Fabbo, lucky old me then

Peachy · 22/05/2009 18:56

funtime aslo in Wales here,m and don't get Welsh tv either; we may have taken decision to move over here but teh TV clearly didn't agree, I still know mroe about what's going on in mum's town than mine

funtimewincies · 22/05/2009 19:01

Nuts isn't it Peachy? Unless I go hunting on the internet, I have no idea what the Welsh Assembly is up to.

They do, however, have a higher percentage of female AMs than female MPs at Westminster .

Peachy · 22/05/2009 19:05

Ah now our AM got ds3 a statement of special needs when the LEA was avoiding it so I am forever grateful to them LOL

My MP OTOH is a waste of space. Both are male.

crokky · 22/05/2009 19:15

We got a tory one this morngin with a pic of David Cameron on. It was addressed only to DH! I recycled it

funtimewincies · 22/05/2009 19:16

Our MP has been around for donkey's years, here they're not at home to Mr Change very often - but then whinge because nothing changes .

Great news that your AM was helpful.

Peachy · 22/05/2009 19:16

Yep we had that

It is sat with the bnp one atm as that's all we've yet had. In the compost.

hatwoman · 22/05/2009 19:18

we've always had duplicates. I guess because we don't have the same surname

GrinnyPig · 22/05/2009 19:20

We had one addressed to both of us and one addressed to just me. I always fill out the electoral roll form and put myself on it first, so assume that was why it was addressed to me.
