to want to stab these two people in Tesco with a potato peeler for making comments about dd

Let me establish firstly that dd is a gorgeous child. I know that won't cut any ice as I'm her mother but she is truly gorgeous, everyone comments on her and she isn't odd looking at all

So today I take her shopping in a long sleeve blue vest, denim pinafore with pink flowers on, pink ankle socks and pink and white sandals. So, bloke in Tesco says 'oh he's cute. Why is he wearing pink socks?' 'Because he's a girl,' says I. So he calls his colleague over and asks her if dd is a girl or boy (??). 'She's a girl,' I assure them both. So this witch looks down at dd and says 'never mind dear, you'll grow into your features.'

Now WTF???
a) how bloody rude
b) dd is 16 months and looks like a girl not a wrinkled up little newborn that could be either
c) how bloody rude again
d) what have her features got to do with anything?

I suspect I'm being a little pfb but really. Some people! My mother thinks that writing to the MD to complain about his staff is a little OTT...

I would write if it was.

But I am sure you were okay with a stranger knowing the sex of your child better than her own mother.

How insulting, that would infuriate me too. What century are they in? Mind you mil gave me a rather fetching picture of dh in what can only be discribed as pink hotpants, with a gingham type shirt thing. He was only about 3 months old.

I endured several years of old dears on the bus saying 'Oh, hasn't she got =lovely curls and such long eyelashes...', then looking at me like I was an evil, demented witch when I said 'She's a he, actually'. Cue lots of 'Poor little girly-looking boy' type comments.

Probably wouldn't resort to actual violence. However, quick letter to the MD seems a good way to go IMO. I find that mentioning the human rights act and my 'right to a private and family life' often gets me a reply in similar situations!

Well I was sort of joking about the writing but I was a bit pissed off. Everyone was looking at us and they wouldn't leave it. I bumped into the bloke a couple more times going round and he kept saying hello young man to her. And this is all because she had a blue vest on? It goes with the pinafore dress and makes a change from pink. I thought it was nice, didn't realise I'd be bringing dd's gender into question by using it

That's really bad.

I wouldn't write to the MD of Tescos, but definitely write to the manager of that particular shop about the attitude of the staff towards customer relations. You'll probably get some vouchers, and also have the satisfaction of letting off steam and hopefully ensuring the daft shites get a good bollocking.

Nurse at surgery yesterday KEPT calling DD2 'he'. I corrected her (first time, and every time) and kindly said that it does happen fairly frequently and she said 'it's probably just her face'

!!!!!!

She is the most beautiful child in the world (apart from DD1).

Dry your eyes! People always get the sex of babies/toddlers wrong. I have a DD and I dress her in blue. People are obsessed with blue for boys and pink for girls but I like blue.
Does it matter? No. Save your letter writing for something important.

I wouldn't really write to anyone, I'd rather vent on here. Was the first time I've come across any comments directed at dd and the mother bear in me came out Was a bit much for the colleague to join in though.

They are just stupid. I can understand people who don't have children getting confused with the sex of a little one in unisex clothes but in a dress????

And the comment about the features? I would have asked her if she'd like her features rearranged.

I would be SOOOOOOOOOOO angry. I would complain, firstly to store manager and also cc to head office. I doubt that they would give a hoot TBH, as is usual with Tesco, however the staff are there to serve you, how would they feel if you made rude comments about their suspected gender?
