to want to stab these two people in Tesco with a potato peeler for making comments about dd

Let me establish firstly that dd is a gorgeous child. I know that won't cut any ice as I'm her mother but she is truly gorgeous, everyone comments on her and she isn't odd looking at all

So today I take her shopping in a long sleeve blue vest, denim pinafore with pink flowers on, pink ankle socks and pink and white sandals. So, bloke in Tesco says 'oh he's cute. Why is he wearing pink socks?' 'Because he's a girl,' says I. So he calls his colleague over and asks her if dd is a girl or boy (??). 'She's a girl,' I assure them both. So this witch looks down at dd and says 'never mind dear, you'll grow into your features.'

Now WTF???
a) how bloody rude
b) dd is 16 months and looks like a girl not a wrinkled up little newborn that could be either
c) how bloody rude again
d) what have her features got to do with anything?

I suspect I'm being a little pfb but really. Some people! My mother thinks that writing to the MD to complain about his staff is a little OTT...

I've taken DD shopping and parked in a car park which has a very short sighted man (I assume) working in it. She looks like a girl anyway, but was wearing a pink skirt, tights, shoes with flowers on and a pink cardigan. He said 'What a handsome little chap'

I agree though, bloody rude a) to comment and b) to call another person over for a look. Complain about their rudeness.

SoupDragon · 15/05/2009 17:41

No one's mistaken BabyDragon for a boy since she was a weeny baby.

BouncingTurtle · 15/05/2009 17:44

What is wrong with some people??? It's the calling someone else over I can't get over. And she sounds like a real witch too.

Eyeballs, I'd quite happily pass you the potato peeler and any other sharp objects in reach!

sachertorte · 15/05/2009 17:44

Do you want to stab everybody you meet who is a bit stupid or ignorant or insensitive?

I think your reaction is completely OTT, rolling your eyes and forgetting about them would have been more reasonable.

QueenLizTheFirstOfScotland · 15/05/2009 17:44

Not a battle worth fighting - so some Tesco staff are a bit dim - Don't think that's going to really get Head Office in a tizz. Annoying, yes, but an incredulous look and stalk off would have been sufficient.

BettyTurnip · 15/05/2009 17:44

Write!!!

skidoodle · 15/05/2009 17:44

"So, bloke in Tesco says 'oh he's cute. Why is he wearing pink socks?' 'Because he's a girl,' says I."

PMSL that is brilliant. Perfectly handled OP

Why is he wearing pink socks? Um, and a dress? Duh, I wonder?

Last week an old lady was telling my DD (in a pink pushchair and wearing a dress) that she was very handsome and all the girls would be chasing after her

There really is no point in getting worked up about this kind of thing.

I think really the bloke was rude to call over his colleague and she was very rude to say that to your daughter.

I imagine the manager would be furious if she knew that's how her staff speak to customers.

But will you actually be bothered to to write the letter?

NeedaNewName · 15/05/2009 17:46

yes I want to stab everyone I meet who is stupid, ignorant or insensitive - why is that wrong

Hulababy · 15/05/2009 17:46

If it was staff I'd write and complain - you might get some freebie vouchers fr your troubles!

This thread makes me feel really guilty. There is a child of 3 at DDs playgroup who looks just like a pocelain doll- gorgeous peaches and cream complexions, big long-lashed ,blue eyes and pink cheeks and shoulder length white blond curls. Just been informed by DD that HE IS CALLED DYLAN.I am sure I have told the mother before how beautiful she is !!

pointydog · 15/05/2009 17:50

I can't believe some people would write a letter of complaint about this. Fuckin 'ell. They'll think you're a mentalist

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 15/05/2009 17:52

i don't think they would, these people are there to serve the customers and be pleasant to them , not to make them feel upset and angry.

Peachy · 15/05/2009 17:54

Oh I wu8ldn't worry weirdo'severywhere

FWIW I ws referred to as Sir and a male last week; I am size 16 - 18 40dd bra wearing (but only when BF LOL) female with long curly ahir and was wearing full make up.

This has happened regualrly since I was 12, I fully beleive it is becuase I have a built in twat magnet, and not because I look like a bloke

IotasCat · 15/05/2009 17:54

Don't beat about the bush pointy, say what you really think

pointydog · 15/05/2009 17:55

hello iota.

Oh they would, fanje. Honest.

Hulababy · 15/05/2009 17:56

Ah but, you might get some money off vouchers for the troubles pointydog.

Mind you, I'd simply never get round to it anyway. Never do.

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 15/05/2009 17:57

LOL I was ID-ed in Argos the other week buying an electric knife. I'm 37 and look it I think most people just don't really take too much notice of what's going on around them. Which is heartening for people like me who are really self conscious because it proves that no one is interested enough to give a toss what you look like!

OP posts:
treedelivery · 15/05/2009 17:58

That's nowt. I was asked if dd2 was a 'boy or girl' 'girl' 'Oh that's good you can dye her hair when she's a teen'.

She's a ginger nut obviously.

posieparker · 15/05/2009 18:05

Just rude.

Tree Your child is a nut?

treedelivery · 15/05/2009 18:08

Of the ginger biscuit variety. Yes.

Well thats what everone at school told me I was...

Am not surprised you're cross op. Dunno if I'd write but a word with the manager might do. So they explain to the staff this is not on.

RedCharityBonney · 15/05/2009 18:15

Very rude, yes. Pity them. You can go home and forget all about them. They have to be them.

wotulookinat · 15/05/2009 18:19

Very rude and hurtful. But, as RedCherity said, forget about them and don't let them ruin your day.

IotasCat · 15/05/2009 18:26

There will be a lot of playground stabbings when your child starts school
