Really angry that the postman delivered a BNP election leaflet this morning

He handed it to us with the rest of our post (included a parcel so he rang the bell). Why is this racist cr*p allowed to be delivered with the post? Obviousy they're too spineless to put their hatred through people's letterboxes themselves. Am thinking of complaining to the post office.

But Goth there are other ways of dealing with this

you're right it's not me they're getting at 9though what's nexxt, the Nazi party would have hated my disabed boys as much as the other groups they targetted) but that doesn't mean I can't try and tackle this mroe efectively

last year I graduated in a degree related to religious and racial totlerance becuase I got so issed off by the daily mail readers I elat with daily and their attitude to anyone who didnt look talk or act like them. Next year I am applying to wiork a SW and will I pray be able to make a real difference.

The BNP make their mark from ignorance (people spouting crap like 'illegal immigrants taking all our hospital beds'- erm are you quite sure about that?) and if bury their views they will gain more power as a result of being portrayed in some communities as folk heros and the workers friends

Far better to force their iognnorant and offensive opinions out of them so people can't be misled into voting for them whilst thinking they are voting for some far more inocuous WC-rights party that they would like to pretend they are.

Triply so ATM when poverty and general mistrust are forcing people away rfom the big 3 parties in droves. We need to show them up as the racist bastards they are, nnot allow them to hide their real agenda under bizarre rhetoric.

That GP in the pic btw- !. Can you imagine how his non-white patients and colleagues muct have felt? hugely inappropriate

Peachy · 15/05/2009 08:09

BTW apols for typo's- left my glasses somewhere and boys have turned spare air into magnifying glasses so are without lenses . Eyesight extremely poor without them.

troutpout · 15/05/2009 08:14

We had one recently here too. They were campaigning in the town centre the other day ...and the guy was handing out leaflets. He went to hand one to dh and then realised that dh was with me (coming up behind) and sort of slowly sank his hand and leaflet back towards himself.
Had to explain who they were to ds though...which was a bit errm weird.

duchesse · 15/05/2009 08:19

Ah well, if they're a legitimate mainstream political party, then surely anyone can join, including black and Asian people, Muslims, Jewish people? Not that any sane person would want to, but still, it might be a good way to bring them out of the woodwork so to speak- for all kinds of people we suspect they consider undesirable to apply to join. They can't very well turn down somebody on the grounds of skin colour, ethnic origin or religion, or they'd end up looking like a bunch of fascists, wouldn't they? And I'm sure they wouldn't want that, being all mainstream and legit and all.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 15/05/2009 08:41

I'm not bothered about getting a BNP leaflet through my door - it goes straight in the recycling.

I am bothered about the number of elected BNP councillors we have locally. Nine. Yes NINE.

And it bothers me that some of them are there because although people bemoan the fact that they get this trash through the door they don't get out there and vote for someone else in order to keep them out.

Peachy · 15/05/2009 08:44

AH yes saggars

pet peeve of ine, people who address dissataisfaction with existing sytem by not voting

WTF is that about?

WinkyWinkola · 15/05/2009 08:45

Gorgeous man. And utterly uneducated too. He should not be allowed any kind of platform - he espouses hatred.

GothAnneGeddes · 15/05/2009 09:05

Peachy - I still disagree. I think their views are too dangerous to be aired. The more publicised something is, the more chance people will agree with it.

The BNP aren't afraid of publicity, the more the better, because it makes them seem like a legitimate political party. However, they should not be treated like such, as hatred is not a legitimate choice. Hence, the concept of no platform.

solidgoldSneezeLikeApig · 15/05/2009 09:33

GothAnneGeddes: well, you see I think that your opinion (that some other people's opinions are too dangerous to be spoken aloud) is dangerous in itself. The only way to deal with misguided opinions is to bring them out into the open and discuss them. It is not possible to stop people from holding opinions and, as others have said, prohibiting the BNP is likely to give them more power over people's imaginations, make them more attractive ('they tell the "truth" that's why they're not allowed to speak in public' etc). And there are various other organisations which promote bigotry and hatred, whether that's on ethnic grounds, religious grounds or gender grounds - again, trying to shut these people up by force as opposed to debating their ideas publicly is misguided.

Peachy · 15/05/2009 10:10

I think the mroe publicity in the way of proper coverage the better- they were well on their way to acceptance pre the whole twayttery indicent linked to just below, exposure shows them how they really are IMO

GothAnneGeddes · 15/05/2009 10:24

But it doesn't just stop with holding opinions does it? They actively incite racial and religious hatred and that hatred has a very real impact on people's lives.

ItsGrimUpNorth · 15/05/2009 10:29

It's very tricky - some people are racist, sexist, ignorant morons.

Are they allowed a voice however imbecilic their opinions?

I'm inclined to say yes they are allowed a voice because they can be shot down so very easily and exposed as fools.

Big argument against proportional representation in that case though because I would be very worried the BNP would win great swathes of electorate and we'd see the rise of The Fourth Reich.

Amani · 15/05/2009 10:30

I got one through with my post as well and was shocked as we've never had one before and dont want that sort of stuff. Went straight in the bin. Seems like a lot of us got one recently - are they up to something at the moment?

Amani · 15/05/2009 10:31

am a bit worried about this campaign they got going on - do you think they will come into power?

katiestar · 15/05/2009 10:31

I think that losing freedom of speech is a much more dangerous than the BNP

missmiss · 15/05/2009 10:36

"We don't subscribe to the politically correct fiction that just because they happen to be born in Britain, a Pakistani is a Briton. They're not; they remain of Pakistani stock."

(From the BBC article)

He completely undermines his own point - first he says that there's no such thing as a British Asian, then he says that an Asian born in Britain is of Asian origin. THAT MAKES THEM A BRITISH ASIAN. What a knobhead.

StealthPolarBear · 15/05/2009 10:46

Good point duchesse - wonder what would happen if black and asian people started joining in huge numbers - would love to see that!
Is there anything we can do if we do get a leaflet? Do they have a freepost address we can post the ripped up leaflet back to?

SomeGuy · 15/05/2009 10:52

I think their views are too dangerous to be aired. The more publicised something is, the more chance people will agree with it.

So basically you don't respect other people enough to even decide for themselves on this.

SomeGuy · 15/05/2009 10:55

Re utterly uneducated:

"Nicholas John Griffin was born in Barnet (1959) and was educated at two Suffolk private schools: St Felix School in Southwold and Woodbridge School.

Griffin studied History and Law at Downing College, Cambridge where he established the "Young National Front Students" society. He eventually graduated with a lower-second-class degree in History with Law."

BTW, I don't see why people are getting so excited. A few BNP MEPs trotting off to Brussels is not going to make the slightest difference to anybody.

daftpunk · 15/05/2009 11:05

i'm geting sick of these threads...the BNP are a political party allowd to have leaflets delivered..... and they are not uneducated....far from it!

wotulookinat · 15/05/2009 11:07

We got a Labour leaflet with our post. I am highly offended.

Unfortunately I agree that in a democracy you have to let bastardos like the BNP distribute their poison. The alternative is worse.

When someone pushed a UKIP leaflet through my door several years ago I chased them down the street and gave them it back and requested that they kept their cheap propoganda to themselves.

I do however agree that there is serious tension in a lot of areas and that the BNP will pick up a lot of people who want to lynch MP's for all the expenses issue. So much anger.

It worries me.

daftpunk · 15/05/2009 11:13

i get pizza leaflets delivered every bloody day...i'm weak...i give in and order one...i'm getting fat, i'll probably have a heart attack and cost the nhs £££££......ban all leaflets!

sieg hail!
