To think the BNP shouldn't be allowed to say that the other parties are in favour of '80 million low paid Muslim Turks swamping Britain'

The population of Turkey isn't even 80 million. Is misrepresenting the facts an incitement to racial and religious hatred?

I think they should be able to say what they like. One of the great things about this country is freedom of speech. I think the whole 'incitement of religious hatred' is very dodgy ground myself.

oodlesofpoodles · 13/05/2009 12:46

Should they be allowed to say what they like if it is untrue?

OP posts:
oodlesofpoodles · 13/05/2009 12:47

As is factually untrue rather than a difference of opinion

PortoPandemico · 13/05/2009 12:49

Maybe it's good that they talk bollocks. It might affect their credibility! If they actually have any of that anyway

GypsyMoth · 13/05/2009 12:51

well where is the link so we can see in what context this was quoted?

oodlesofpoodles · 13/05/2009 13:01

I don't have a link. It came through my letterbox.

OUR KEY PLEDGES

oppose the dangerous drive- backed by the other main parties- to give 80 million low wage Muslim Turks the right to swamp Britain.

They have 2 further key pledges, one about investing in british jobs and one about St Georges day.

There is a lot of other stuff about the battle of Trafalgar, asylum seekers, foreign nurses etc and British Troops being attacked by Muslims. The Muslim Turks is their 'Key Pledge'. It just annoyed me. We've never had election leaflets before as the seats have been uncontested.

OP posts:
BigBellasBeerBelly · 13/05/2009 13:05

if they spout shite they show themselves up as the nobs they are.

If they were told they couldn't say stuff, they would say that this was because the authorities were trying to cover up the truth by silencing them, which might make some people think their claims were more credible.

I try to look at it from the point of view that people who are insane have to be quietly ignored. Otherwise you give their rantings credibility.

Thing with BNP is, no matter what they say, everyone knows that they are a bunch or racist bigots, quite possibly dangerous.

Sad thing is large population of UK is racist, and they can vote for who they choose.

GypsyMoth · 13/05/2009 13:11

agree.....we need a st georges day!

onagar · 13/05/2009 13:29

Well the number is way over the top, but it is true that some see immigration as a way of keeping down wages, so the underlying point there is true.

All politicians talk rubbish anyway.

onagar · 13/05/2009 13:32

Oh the actual quote about '80 million low wage Muslim Turks the right to swamp Britain' isn't so far off as I thought. I just checked and the population is about 71 million. Though of course that will include children and presumably not all Turkish people will be underpaid.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 13/05/2009 13:34

And of course not all turkish people are muslim

daftpunk · 13/05/2009 13:36

yabu..they can say what they like (if it's true)..they are a legit political party.

pingping · 13/05/2009 13:38

Sadly to say but they will pin point Muslims

after the abuse that was huled at British Soliders on there Return Home parade alot of people were upset and the BNP will use these kind of things in there favour

I don't think they should be allowed to print these things thou and shove them in peoples letterboxes.

Also The BNP have gathered alot of seats in the local election for the first time in years so this madness is clearly what some people want.

St Georges day should exist as well it should be celebrated like St Patricks day no doubt about it I am english/Irish and proud that doesn't mean I hate all other cultures or people

onagar · 13/05/2009 13:39

Good point!

What they should have said is "it's a bad idea to set it up so that a large number of badly paid people will be drawn to this country when we have a housing shortage, a water shortage and we've go no money because the politicians are spending it on their swimming pools and Pay Per view porn films"

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 13:40

They can say whatever they like, and I am happy for them to keep saying it in public so decent human beings can clearly spot the vile fascism a mile off.

The only thing I'd like changed is for every house in the country to be given rotten tomatoes to throw at the odious little twerps at opportune moments.

oh well Kay,in that case, shall we throw them at ALL the parties too? cos i'd quite like to see some aimed at certain mp's.....thats IF we are advocating violence here?

onagar · 13/05/2009 13:47

One source here says that 99% of Turkish people are muslim which would make more than 70 million so not far out.

I don't know if that is accurate though it is beside the point if the BNP are talking about the economic impact of large scale immigration since it makes no odds where they come from or what religion they have.

MeMySonAndI · 13/05/2009 13:50

I believe in Freedom of Speech but I also demand to be truthfully informed and in that respect I think that the BNP shouldn't be allowed to put that rubbish through our letterboxes.

GypsyMoth · 13/05/2009 13:51

maybe confused with the approx 80 million muslims from the former ussr? a quick google search gave that?

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 13:51

IloveTIFFANY, oh crikey, yes. Squishy tomato-violence a-go-go.

But 'scuse me while I reserve the greatest oppobrium for nasty fascists.

MeMySonAndI · 13/05/2009 13:51

Funny about the St George's day.... wasn't he born in the place we now call Turkey? Isn't he also revered by muslims. Why does everything has to be black and white?

GypsyMoth · 13/05/2009 13:53

doesn't matter,tomatoes or whatever.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 13/05/2009 13:55

But of the 70 million loads will be OAP, children and certianly they won't all be poorly paid.

Plus, the bits I've been to were quite traditional areas and the women didn't seem to work out of the home, so if that is a true reflection of parts of the country, then that would knock quite a few more off the total.

So 80 million looking wildly inaccurate.

As a possibly inflammatory aside, if many of the people want this party and they are voted in, then they are representing the majority and what people want. If you believed that all they wanted was less immigration etc, and that they did not go in for hate/violence and stirring up communities, shouldn't the electorate have the right to vote for whoever they choose, even if people like us lot on the whole find them obscene?

Where do you draw the line between supporting freedom of choice and what is "right". And who gets to decide what is "right"?

LolaTheShowgirl · 13/05/2009 13:57

I think they are racist bastards and should be charged at with wooden stakes. This morning I got a flyer in the post from UKIP. Another bunch of ignorant, uneducated tossers.
