To think the BNP shouldn't be allowed to say that the other parties are in favour of '80 million low paid Muslim Turks swamping Britain'

The population of Turkey isn't even 80 million. Is misrepresenting the facts an incitement to racial and religious hatred?

Um, hate to disagree but there is a very explicit freedom of speech in the UK (technically freedom of expression) most recently enshrined in the Human Rights Act, but previously recognised for a very long time previously through case law and the European Convention on Human Rights. The classic derogation being for 'hate speech' or incitment to racial hatred.

Technically the language need to be insulting or inflammatory to qualify as hate speech though I do wonder at what point wilfully misrepresenting facts for racially motivated purposes becomes so...

And for those people who think allowing the BNP to do so is great because it allows people to see what a stupid party it is I'd suggest you have a look at Martin Fletcher's article in The Times yesterday to see just how many people do believe these BNP 'facts' and will vote for them on that basis

onagar · 13/05/2009 14:01

According to the CIA Factbook the labour force is 23.21 million and currently 1.2 million Turks work abroad.

So in reality if we change rules and make the UK an attractive place for working we are talking about up to a million people who might move from where they are working now to here.

See if they said that and forgot all the racist stuff they'd get listened to more. At least by me.

spokette · 13/05/2009 14:02

Has anyone told these pea brains that humankind started off in Ethiopia and therefore, geographically speaking we are all Africans?

I bet the BNP would love that.

LolaTheShowgirl · 13/05/2009 14:03

I'm going to write that on their website forum spokette

tigana · 13/05/2009 14:05

They can say it if they want - I don't think that counts as inciting racial hatred iykwim. They might be in trouble for misrepresentation in a political campaign if the number is wrong, but not incitement.
It implies BNP would not let 'them' in to UK, rather than suggesting those in the UK already should be driven out (that would probably get them in trouble).
Gnerally BNP are pretty slick at staying within the law in public.
Bunch of arseholes, regardless.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 13/05/2009 14:07

Thing is cest, I suspect that people don't vote for them because they believe the claptrap.

They vote for them because they are themselves racist, and know full well what the BNP stand for. The BNP and their voters collude together in the pretence that they are just sensible ordinary british people blah blah.

You would need to change society, silencing the BNP wouldn't stop people holding these views.

having said that I will now go and read the article and find out I am wrong

spokette · 13/05/2009 14:08

Some UKIP campaigners knocked on my door recently. You should have seen their faces when they saw that I was black.

They mumbled their apologies and scurried away like the rats that they are.

daftpunk · 13/05/2009 14:10

Lola....don't under-estimate them..they are not uneducated....they know how to get to people.

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 14:10

I'm one of the people who thinks they should be allowed to say what they want - because the only way to effectively fight misinformation and the 'martyr' complex they want to push is to openly confront their stupid ideas, not try and legally squash them which just plays into their hands - which is exactly what has happened in the past few years.

It's all very well trying saying that people will believe what they say - true enough, but you don't fight fascism with fascism.

IloveTIFFANY, FFS, don't worry your little head about it, I haven't really got a store of rotten vegetation to throw at the BNP. I shall just call any representative of the party who turns up at my door a racist fucker and tell them to get off my property.

spokette · 13/05/2009 14:16

I'm with Daftpunk. The leaders are clever, manipulative and know how to exploit people's anxieties and insecurities to their advantage, just like Hitler.

GypsyMoth · 13/05/2009 14:17

why do think i'm worried?! strange....

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 14:21

IloveTIFFANY, you appeared to be being prim about my 'advocation of violence', so I thought I'd reassure you.

mrsruffallo · 13/05/2009 14:22

Well, we all know what a thug you are Kay

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 14:23

You should see me with Trick or Treaters.

GypsyMoth · 13/05/2009 14:23

lol...."prim"?! ahem....not me!

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 13/05/2009 14:33

My tomatoes are too fresh anyway. They wouldn't acheive that satisfying smoosh on impact.

chegirl · 13/05/2009 15:29

Its one good reason why we all have to vote in the upcoming election. If we dont they may actually stand a chance of getting elected.

Was it Norman Tebbit who advocated everyone boycotting/refusing to vote for the main parties due to the expenses racket claims?

V.Dangerous IMO. Means that the BNP could get in by default. Ok they will crash and burn because they cannot possibly live up to their bunch of bollocks manifesto. BUT the can do a considerable amount of damage whilst they are in.

Yes there are a few intelligent wankers at the head of the party but the vast majority are the same sub human morons that they always have been.

Basically they adovacte beating my kids up and they think my husband is a monkey. So pass me the tomatoes and a couple of bricks. Sod non violent protest.

junglist1 · 13/05/2009 18:43

Ignorant thick headed bastards. My kids are half Turkish and we'll soon be moving to a more white area (currently in Tottenham) where I'm a bit worried how they'll fit in, they have Turkish names that some English people can't pronounce (or can't be bothered to try). Have already been berated for letting a "darkie" get me into trouble in the new area by a complete stranger (but don't worry, he got the Tottenham treatment).

oodlesofpoodles · 13/05/2009 20:00

I wonder if they feel like twats when they get elected onto the local council and spend all their time going to meetings about bins and flowerbeds instead of being allowed to deport foreign nurses.

OP posts:
chegirl · 13/05/2009 20:25

They would be laughable but I have had arguments discussions online with women who spout the 'I am not racist but they do have some really good policies' and 'you cant blame people for voting for them, I mean they want to help the pensioners' and 'if the country wasnt in such a state people wouldnt have to vote for them, it doesnt make them racialist'

NO THEY DONT
YES YOU CAN
YES IT DOES

What are these good policies? As far as I can make out they just talk a load of old twaddle about giving pensioners loads of money and getting rid of bogus asylum seekers and peadophiles. What would happen if you presented them with a good old east end peadophile pensioner? Their fecking heads would probably explode as they tried to work out what to do.

They are so fecking whingy as well! If anyone criticises them they start bitching and bleating about racisism and freedom of speech.

Could go on but it would take ages and I am pretty sure I am preaching to the converted

scottishmummy · 13/05/2009 20:36

let the BNP bump gums as their assertions are inaccurate and easy to challenge

as unpalatable and toxic as i find them wouldn't want them to claim state oppression or suppression.or they will peddle they "we are right but leftie types suppress us blah blah"
