For getting a bit tired of the 'joke'?

Or am I being miserable?

Basically it all revolves around an ornament I have in my living room. It's a green rabbit. I understand it's not to everyone's taste but I like it.

Anyway I have a 'boyfriend' of 4 months and he has just started to come down whilst my DD is here. First time he came he burst out laughing at the rabbit and said it was awful, it looked more like a frog etc ... I laughed along and said I'd buy him one if he kept on about it etc etc ... I took it as a joke.

Then one day DD knocked it flying with her foot and I said to her to be careful and reminded her that it was worth £25. She pulled a face and repeated £25?" as in "that's nothing" and DP just burst out laughing and carried in laughing for ages afterwards. DD has now started laughing at it constantly (even though I've had it for years she's just decided it's funny).

Anyway DP was here yesterday and kept chuckling at it. I was getting a bit tired of it by then but tried to remain in good humour about it. He said it was more how my DD said £25 that was so funny, not the ornament itself.

Anyway he was here today and when he'd gone he'd stuck a price tag on its head saying £25. AIBU to have ceased finding it funny??

They have found a way to wind you up and it is working.

flamingobingo · 08/05/2009 18:23

YABU. It may well be annoying to you, but be thankful that your DD and your new DP have found something to 'bond' over.

PenniesOnMyEyes · 08/05/2009 18:25

Oh she was in hysterics when she came home from school lol, I left it on for her to see. I just feel like he's taking the micky a bit.

Sorry but this made me titter!

flamingobingo · 08/05/2009 18:26

He is taking the mickey, but it's good and lighthearted and it's nice that they're in cahoots about something.

wotulookinat · 08/05/2009 18:27

Put a picture of it on your profile please

sophieandbelly · 08/05/2009 18:28

yeah bit funny, and like flamingo said nice they have a little in joke, but yep give it up dp the jokes been done now! i agree

sleepyeyes · 08/05/2009 18:33

I cant judge until I see a photo.

LittleMissBliss · 08/05/2009 18:33

That has made me smile, probably really annoying for you though. But great that they have a little joke together, especially if he's a new fella.

muggglewump · 08/05/2009 18:36

Hmmm, whilst I also want to laugh at the green rabbit, YANBU about jokes wearing thin.
It gets beyond the point of being funny and is just insulting.

Is it that for you?

PenniesOnMyEyes · 08/05/2009 18:38

I will take a photo of it later lol

it's unusual, I don't like ornaments as a rule but this one really stood out to me.

I did laugh along at first and I did find it funny initially but when they go on and on, I just feel like asking him to change the record. It just gets a bit boring after a bit and I'd like to change the subject!

Yab a bit u.

I think you should just go along with it.

It sounds pretty harmless and is not aimed at you personally.

Maybe wrap it up and give it to him for his birthday or something.

dustbuster · 08/05/2009 18:47

I'm lolling at the price tag and the idea of giving it to him for his b/day!

YANBU to be annoyed though, I LOATHE being wound up. Unfortunately winder-uppers have a sixth sense for it though and wind me up all the more.

corriefan · 08/05/2009 18:53

You could play it up the other way, pretending to comfort your rabbit, or adding some zeros to the price or something- after all they are taking the mick out of the rabbit rather than you!

PenniesOnMyEyes · 08/05/2009 18:57

oh I like the idea of the zeros on the end!

Perhaps I am taking it a bit too seriously

Put some jewellery on it or something to 'bling it up'

Cloudspotter · 08/05/2009 19:01

Agree that you need to get in on the joke with the zeros or the necklace. I should think that will very quickly take the fun out of it.

LadyAga · 08/05/2009 19:03

you spent £25 on green bunny ornament and you don't have a sense of humour

madwomanintheattic · 08/05/2009 19:03

i confess to being on the other end of this sort of thing

dh has a hideous kangaroo money box called rinky (really) which he has had forever. i have been winding him up about it for... ooo... about 15 years now

honestly? you have to either join in or get rid. such evil people as i will rarely give in. i'm impressed they are working in a pincer movement though lol

dustbuster · 08/05/2009 19:09

Oh yes, def put a necklace on it, or dig out some of DD's old dolls' clothes and put a different outfit on it each day.

lou222 · 08/05/2009 19:19

it's really funny, yabu. you don't sound like you are much fun really

GentlyDoesIt · 08/05/2009 19:23

I think the £25 price tag was quite a sweet joke actually, and agree with others that your DP is probably pleased to have found an "in-joke" with your DD. They are not laughing at you, IMO.

Yeah, get in on the joke! Put it on a red velvet cushion with a spotlight pointing at it. Make it a little crown. Give it a new sticker saying "Priceless." Have a photo printed onto a t-shirt.

I have been looking for a nice hare sculpture for a couple of years now, my family has gone "ergh" at everything I've seen though so I can relate to this one a bit!

Flibbertyjibbet · 08/05/2009 19:30

Can you hack into his ebay account, put it up for auction with a reserve of £25 and put a bid on for him so he wins it.

If he won't see the funny side neg him and report him to ebay as a non-paying bidder

Love to see photo

You'd better watch out because once people know you are "into" green rabbits you will get them for every Christmas and Birthday for the rest of your life [evil chickle emoticon]
