Mandarin Cheesecake?

AIBU to be and that firstly they even do mandarin cheesecake in the first place, which is wrong, but that the shop only had a frozen one which will take 2.5hours to defrost!

WTF!

If it's wrong why did you buy it ?

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 20:49

And I mean mandarin as in the little orange like fruit, rather than the chinese dialect!

Sassy - did not buy it. My darling hubby went up to shops to indulge my pregnancy whim of non-frozen New York cheese cake. It was all they had.

I have not been eating much and my tastebuds were really quite partial to a nice bit of cheesecake. Alas, not an orange one.

The only thing wrong with mandarin cheesecake is the fact that you have one and I don't.

Bonneville · 26/04/2009 20:51

Pavlov. Who has rattled your cage?!

Bonneville · 26/04/2009 20:52

Ah - I see. YANBU

southeastastra · 26/04/2009 20:52

i like the mandarin ones .

what are the new new york ones then

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 20:56

southeastastra - NY cheesecake it the only cheesecake that should exist. Anything else is some cobbled together version of it.

It is a plain vanilla cheesecake. Tastes rather nice with a little raspberry coulee over it.

Bonneville - who? The fucking coop that is who . There are two things wrong with the cheesecake that DH bought.

  1. It is not NY cheesecake.
  2. It is not frozen and therefore I cannot eat it NOW.

Oh - don't step between a pregnant woman and her cheescake craving. Especially if she has to wait for 2.5 hrs to defrost it!

southeastastra · 26/04/2009 21:01

ooh i'll look out for one they sounds nice

SaintGeorge · 26/04/2009 21:02

Wrap it in a freezer bag (well knotted, so watertight) and dunk in a bowl of cold water. Should take about a quarter of the time to defrost.

Or stick in microwave on half power for about 3 minutes, then leave for about 20 minutes at room temperature.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 21:03

I could possibly cope with one that has some strawberry swirls on it, maybe even lemon, but mandarin? That is just not good .

I am quite surprised though, I was expecting at least one cheesecake snog to come along and agree! As such, I have just posted on the 'snob' thread as I feel so [shocked] by it ROFL!

cheesecake snog

dizzydixies · 26/04/2009 21:05

oh dear, you want to be eating my white chocolate cheesecake, it cures all ills - want to email me your address and I'll pop one in the post?!?

Bonneville · 26/04/2009 21:05

Can you not saw the mandarins off while it is still frozen then add a bit of raspberry jam instead? (Trying to think of some sort of solution for you!)

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 21:06

Saintgeorge - our microwave is broken, and mostly don't miss it enough to replace it right now, except this exact second.

I shall try to do it the other way...if we have any freezer bags that is .

Problem is, I have a really short window of what I can eat and when I can eat it right now before it is too late (comes back up), and that window is rapidly passing

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 26/04/2009 21:06

whatever you do don't put it in the microwave. My ex-dh did that for me when I had pmt - it melted immediately into a sticky mess whereupon I threw the giantist hissy fit and cried for an hour.

That was some bad pmt - still remember it 15 years later.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 21:07

dizzy - oh no, I am really not good with chocolate right now....but DH says send it anyway

OP posts:
pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 21:08

Laurie - I feel tearful about it now! Really, its quite sad is it not, quite how being pg can just make something so trivial as fancying a bit of cheesecake seem like the world is ending!

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 26/04/2009 21:10

I really want cheesecake now.

Any cheesecake would do but especially mandarin.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 21:13

here you go...I don't want it .

DH did not want to go the shops, and when he did and did not get what I wanted, I saw why! (I am too much of pain, so I am not blaming him anymore)

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 26/04/2009 21:13

liking his style, is he a fan of mandarin cheesecake per chance??!

pavlovthepregnantcat · 26/04/2009 21:14

he prefers NY, but he likes ALL cheesecake! Its just me who is a fussyfusspot!

OP posts:
AMumInScotland · 26/04/2009 21:15

My DH grew up believing that cheesecake was meant to be crunchy - his mum and sister could never wait for the frozen ones to defrost.

Mspontipine · 26/04/2009 21:15

OOh mandarin orange cheescake - about my only craving when I was pg - every time I passed through the kitchen I'd have to get a slice - especially in the middle of the night while doing my eighty-fifth trek of the night downstairs to my only toilet which was in my cellar.
