On the subject of summer...

Am I the only one who inwardly groans on hearing that we are in for a long hot summer?

I get that its nice to have light, longer days and be able to go out without a coat and use the garden etc.

But it's a faff with all the sunscreen and the shade for the kids and you get tired and fed up in the heat more often than not, and if you don't have aircon your house is a horrid heat trap, being as how British houses tend to be built to retain heat.

Also, in hot countries the people that actually live there tend to avoid the heat if they can. Mad dogs and Englishmen eh?

I wish I lived somewhere where you get really cold winters and mild temperate summers.

Hot weather is a PITA when you have very fair skin. Cold winters and mild summers sound perfect to me.

Yes, it supposed to be temperate here but in recent years it's got hotter.

Why crazy? Spring is lovely, so is Autumn, and lovely crisp Winter. Summer is crap. Should be banned. Everybody flouncing about happily.

No but I do have very pale skin in my defence.

I was a complete summer basher until I had dd. She absolutely loves being outside, and in the last week or so, has been a joy.
Disclaimer: Apart from when I am trying to apply sunscreen or a hat.

This temperature that we have right now is perfect.

You don't have to wear either socks or suncream.

Dilettante, get orf my land! You are being very, very unreasonable, seeing as we haven't actually had a summer here since 2006 . Here's how you cope in hot weather: get a fan and slow down.

i don't think you will have much to worry about. there will be one week of blazing heat and then it will piss down

What? No summer since 2006? Are you quite, quite mad? I had to have air con put in on every floor in 2007 so it must have been hot.

I would like weather like today (sunny, but not excessively hot) for the rest of the summer please. Can wear summery clothes without being in a muck sweat and is lovely and cool inside.

Don't want a long hot summer. Want a long warm sunny summer instead.

Should add that will be pregnant (heavily towards the end) for the whole summer. I well remember the summer of 2003 when dd was born and it was unbearable.

Nah, you're mad, for sure. Summer is the bee's armpits. Things actually grow during a hot summer, and our water is heated for free. Love it love it love it. YABVVVVVU.

ps- Summer 2008 was awful! I can't believe anyone had to use air conditioning, it never stopped pi$$ing down here in Devon. All bloody summer. Bring me a long hot dry one any day, even if it means plunging into our copious reserves of water (think water table at surface) to keep everything alive...

YANBU I can join in with the fair skinned minority who find the whole thing a real faff... And having to put lotion on DD is no picnic either...

I don't know about anyone else but if I was out for more than a little while in this I would burn like a burny thing...

Heat on holiday is lovely, when you are by a pool and able to cool down etc.

Heat when yuo have to work is crap, the tube is baking, people stink...

I wouldn't worry.

Beer garden hot at weekends - more a very warm and no breeze vibe than baking though...

Sunshiney and happy when it's work time...

Occasional thunderstorms for interest but with a 2 hour warning for people to find shelter...

At least 2 days of proper snow every year which are national holidays

duchesse - we had the air con on all summer but conversely I think we had the heating off all winter. Our house is very well insulated and is south facing and without the air con it reaches over 34 degrees indoors at night!
