Probably only a night time advert - japanese office worker (male) stumbles upon woman (presumably secretary) photocopying her vagina (straddling photocopier) followed by image of long thin biscuit being coated in chocolate (phallic/sex image?) and the tagline 'more than a little bit tempting' - Is it just me, or is that really sexist and gross?

I say - you have too much time on your hands. It's a great ad. Bet you don't like Boots "here come the girls" one either!

AnxiousLand · 16/09/2010 07:47

I think this advert is totally pornographic and therefore obviously inappropriate for television no matter the time. Pornograohy IS in my OP degrading to women and this advert is no different. Ban the sexist, totally unecessary, stomach churning visual diarrohea NOW

The biscuits themselves are vile too! (LOL)

Blurgh!!!

EricNorthmansmistress · 16/09/2010 07:53

I was going to rush in and agree with the OP, until I realised that I am the OP......from a really long time ago.

EricNorthmansmistress · 16/09/2010 07:56

TrueBlood
as some have pointed out, this thread is really old. Also - the ad I saw was only half the ad. The full ad shows him hiding the biscuits and it's clear that the tagline refers to her nicking his biscuits. In the shortened ad it looks as though the tagline refers to the guy looking up the woman's skirt. Whole different concepts you see.

So in conclusion, IWBU and IWNBU

BarmyArmy · 16/09/2010 08:00

FWIW, the Virgin ad was brilliant! This one (Mikado) is very funny.

Life is too short.

Jux · 16/09/2010 08:06

DH thought this ad was hilarious and described it to me with glee, the first time he saw it. When I saw it myself, eventually, I just thought it was a bit puerile.

StealthPolarBear · 16/09/2010 08:09

lol

I've asked before and I'll ask again - HOW do these threads get resurrected?

SkylineDrifter · 16/09/2010 08:20

It's a fairly innocuous, albeit a little tasteless, ad, so no need to get anyone's knickers in a twist over it. Geddit? Knickers? No? Oh just me then...

As for the Virgin advert - what on earth is the problem with it? I love it. It's supposed to be the 80s, I wanted to be a Virgin girl then, but they wouldn't take me with four kids round my feet!

I know this thread is 18 months old, ChippingIn, but I got well through it before I realised that, and was quite impressed with all the different perspectives people had on this Mikado ad.

AnxiousLand · 16/09/2010 08:35

Skyline i have just fainted at the thought of knickers. I myself do not even wear any.

Going over to the AIBU thread about sending ones children DDS DDD to school in odd socks

OUTRAGEOUS

SkylineDrifter · 16/09/2010 08:50

Grin @ AnxiousLand

Must check out the sock thread too....

Myleetlepony · 16/09/2010 09:14

I loved the Virgin advert (it's a take on a scene from a film with Leonardo de Caprio). I really think some people need to get out more.

cupcakesandbunting · 16/09/2010 09:51

I hate the Mikado adverts, although not because I find it sexist/offensive. I can't put my finger on why I think it's just a little bit bleugh.

Tippychoocks · 16/09/2010 09:56

All these old threads coming back are great, it's like Mumsnet +1 Grin

Pointless as it is answering now I will Grin. Mikado and Virgin adverts: mildly funny.

Advertising CSI Miami/similar before the watershed, complete with trailers of bodies being pulled out of lakes and morgues: not acceptable.

Am baffled as to how biscuits are upsetting people and not the general stream of violence on mainstream channels.

BooBooGlass · 16/09/2010 09:56

WHy do these threads get resurrected? Trueblood what are you playing at you numpty?

Theflatulentfairy · 16/09/2010 09:57

I love the mikado advert, it made me laugh out load the first time I saw it. I don't see how its offensive, some people just have too much free time to get themselves worked up about things

Everyone in our house likes the Mikado advert. It's seen as 'grumpy stern boss horrified at photocopies of girl's bum, whilst she reaches for yummy treat that both men and women enjoy eating". And also, said bum having underwear on as well; with obvious allusions to the notion of blokes (usually) photocopying their rears at office parties.

And Mikado are yummy.

I'm more disgusted about the advert for pain relief with the woman who presses the ejector seat of the man on the sofa next to her, when he's mildly irritated her and she has a headache/period pain/whatever. Men are frequently made out to be ignorant and annoying in adverts.

ChippingIn · 16/09/2010 14:21

EN it solved one mystery - I had wondered where Kat had gone!! :)

EricNorthmansmistress · 16/09/2010 21:11

Chippingin now I feel special :) someone remembers my previous incarnation!

ChippingIn · 16/09/2010 22:17

I do - we had quite a few good chats when you were Kat2907 - sadly, as I now have a sieve where my brain used to reside, that's all I can remember!!

EricNorthmansmistress · 20/09/2010 20:14

I remember your name too but have no idea what we chatted about. Have a kiss {X} though for being lovely.

CherryChapstick · 20/09/2010 20:18

mmmmmmmmmmmm biscuits.

Ladyanonymous · 20/09/2010 20:20

I love that advert and YABU it goes completely over the kids heads.....

Ladyanonymous · 20/09/2010 20:21

Sorry - just seen this is an old resurrected thread Blush

AngieTierney · 19/09/2011 19:34

Yes you are being unreasonable and missing the point.

The man doesn't just stand to perv on her and it is not about a woman with no undies on photocopying her vagina or anything. Here is the joke:

The man is probably one of the woman's equals or boss at an office, he is eating Mikado chocolate sticks whilst photocopying a document. When it has photocopied he leaves and puts his chocolate on the top shelf. The woman wants them, because they look nice, and to reach for them by climbing on the photocopier. She slips and hits the photocopy button and the man comes in and is shocked because it looks like she is doing something quite rude...and also common at an office party. So the joke is that she is caught in an embarrassing situation. I think people should pay attention to the adverts they want to critique. I am further left than many critics of it but I see no sexism in it, I emphasize with the woman but also find it amusing because we all have been in embarrassing situations.
