most kids shows are rubbish, formula- written and are either cheesy or boring. example , power rangers -> goodies fight baddies/aliens = save the world... ben 10 -> goodie fights the baddies/aliens =save the world .... tenage ninja turtle ->goodies fight the baddies/aliens =save the world... scooby doo goodies fight/find the baddies save the world. and lets no leave the girls out .... hannah montanah -> falls out with best friend, gets into trouble, falls back in with friend gets out of trouble.....cheeta girls ....same..bratz ....same. aaaarghh !!!!

YANBU.

I'm hoping they're banned just before my DC get to that stage in their viewings.

HotCrossMuff · 10/04/2009 20:22

Yes but if you think about it most adult films follow this formula too, only with some more explicit sex scenes in between the falling out and making up.

pointydog · 10/04/2009 20:28

children love coming acroiss the same story patterns. The younger the child, the simpler the pattern.

Adults love the same old same old too. Just look at how many adults rave about Richard Cirtis films

drlove8 · 10/04/2009 20:35

its like recycled tv scripts as well isnt it?

psychomum5 · 10/04/2009 21:00

yas, because andy pandy, bagpuss and finger mouse were so educational....

ach, childrens programmes thses days are so many, and so commercialised (sp??) that it is hard for them to come out with something original that isn;t then repeated infinitum times a day!!!

the only ones I have real issue with are the bad animated ones (power puff girls anyone). They should be be banned

I think they should bring back grange hill tho

well I think they should bring back watch with mother...but then I'm very old

noonki · 10/04/2009 21:06

some are good but the ones you mentionned are pure dross. Isn't only 1% of childrens tv made in the uk of some such statistic.

And given the amount of tv kids watch it is a shame.

Shitemum · 10/04/2009 21:10

pyschomum5 - Andy pandy was pants because looby loo was wet, finger mouse was lovely and simple (tho it was never the same after the finger bobs man was found to have bobbed his finger in the wrong place...)
Bagpuss was also lovely with proper singing and old fashioned animation.

I don't live in the UK and we don't have a TV either.
But my kids have a vast range of nostalgic 70's TV series on DVD...

Ivor the Engine
Bagpuss
Clangers
Mr. Benn
etc etc

sigh....

AttillaTheHan · 10/04/2009 21:10

Ds has just graduated onto CBBC and I have to say that the programes are actually quite good. IMO 'who wants to be a superhero' is pure class...

AttillaTheHan · 10/04/2009 21:11

Compared to many other kids channels CBBC has very few crappy cartoons or overly fighty programmes.

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 10/04/2009 21:13

Remember Sturgeon's Law: 95% of EVERYTHING is crap.
I really did contemplate sticking forks in my eyes after watching the BObinogs spend hours telling each other to wash their hands after going to the toilet this morning though...

suwoo · 10/04/2009 21:25

I love Bobinogs purely because it has a character (dog) called Nobdog. Now is it just me that pisses myself every time they say Nobdog?

psychomum5 · 10/04/2009 21:38

oh, I did love bagpuss ((I was just pointing out tho that childrens TV has never been that great in the education stakes))

Shitemum · 11/04/2009 00:08

I loved it too - and now I love it on DVD!
Come on, surely Bagpuss must have taught you something!?

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 11/04/2009 00:13

They are all American imports. No further comments (must be a first for me).

psychomum5 · 11/04/2009 00:13

well, I think it taught me that big pink baggy material cats were not real.........

and the woodpecker was slightly screwy

altho..........I have fond memories, and I have not grown up warped by childrens TV, so it could not have been bad!!

not that I have watched it lately to know the bad....
