most kids shows are rubbish, formula- written and are either cheesy or boring. example , power rangers -> goodies fight baddies/aliens = save the world... ben 10 -> goodie fights the baddies/aliens =save the world .... tenage ninja turtle ->goodies fight the baddies/aliens =save the world... scooby doo goodies fight/find the baddies save the world. and lets no leave the girls out .... hannah montanah -> falls out with best friend, gets into trouble, falls back in with friend gets out of trouble.....cheeta girls ....same..bratz ....same. aaaarghh !!!!

Shitemum - mine are currently obsessed by "Bod" . They don't make 'em like that anymore!

Shitemum · 11/04/2009 11:01

Oh how could I forget Bod?!

Especially since we nicknamed my little brother Bod and still call him that to this day!

Hulababy · 11/04/2009 11:03

YABU. They are not aimed at you.

Children like, and to some extent, need repetition in stories.

they are no worse than kid's programmes when I was litte.

duchesse · 11/04/2009 11:19

I agree entirely with you. In fact my poor children as babies were utterly deprived of Teletubbies mainly due to the fact I could see their brains atrophying while they watched. Roll forwards 5 years and our au pair learned to speak English watching the Tweenies with them, and they developed an unhealthy and cultish obsession with the damned programme. I definitely think that CITV should be pulled from the air though, if only because of the ads.

funtimewincies · 11/04/2009 11:31

I agree that most are complete dross BUT surely you as the parent have a final veto over what they watch and don't watch? Why should they be banned? If you don't think that they are appropriate for your child or you simply don't approve of them, then don't let them watch those programmes. TV isn't compulsory.

Or am I missing something here ?

Fairynufff · 16/04/2009 10:41

Yeah but it's the best babysitter ever isn't it?

gagamama · 16/04/2009 10:49

I have been known to watch Charlie and Lola oon YouTube while the LOs are in bed.

hophophippidtyhop · 16/04/2009 12:26

drlove8 - you need to watch cbeebies at 10.30, sesame tree is on, not quite the same as sesame street, but not too bad. I miss count von count. If you enjoyed The Muppets, I'd give Bunnytown a go at 3pm on playhouse disney too!

LadyOfWaffle · 16/04/2009 12:33

CBeebies I find quite 'good' TBH. I don't let DS watch 'empty rubbish' that often, but he actually learns things from Something Special, Come Outside etc.

independiente · 16/04/2009 14:23

CBeebies is fine, some of it really very good. This may sound anal, but I don't allow any of the other kids' channels - too many adverts.
I second the poster who said that as a parent, it's your choice what your young children watch ( I accept that it get more difficult to veto when they are teenagers).

CompareTheMeerkat · 16/04/2009 14:29

DS and DD only watch CBeebies. I don't let them watch channels with adverts (helps that we don't have sky)

DS is 5.5 and I think might enjoy some CBBC but as DD is 3.7 we'll stay with CBeebies for now I think

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 16/04/2009 14:41

We have stopped both DD's watching Cbeebies since Christmas by telling them the digibox is broken.

They do still get to see a dvd for 1/2hr a day, but we felt they were basically hanging around waiting for the tv to be switched on, rather than playing.

They used to watch 1/2 in the morning and 1 hour before bed, a bit more at the weekend (so we could have a lie in!)

They have never watched any of the other stations at all.
